His arms seemed to pose just fine yesterday when he arrived, but now his forearms have a tendancy to snap upward toward his chest when his elbows aren't locked straight. Sometimes they'll stay in the position that I want them but a little shift and they move up again.

Maybe I twisted his arms by accident? o_o I can see the cord between the joints and they don't really look too twisted. He is brand new, could this be the reason also? :is such a n00b: gonk

You probably have a really tight-strung doll. A couple idea for you:

1. If you know how to take apart the doll, then do so. Then find two heavy, solid place, and wrap the strings on there to stretch it. Stretch it for couple of hours, then test its tenseness, and repeat. You don't want the string to become too loose. Once the string is to your satisfaction, put together the doll and voila~ ^^

2. If you don't know how, you have to go the longer route. Just on your free time when you're holding your baby, pull on his/her leg and keep it pulled. The main body is strung with 1 string while the arms are another string, so depend on which is more tense, pull on either the arm or the leg. Keep doing that for aweek, and eventually the string will loosen to a point where you won't get the "crazy-leg syndrom" ^^

I did the second way on my first baby, Yue, and it took a couple of weeks 'cause I only did it every so often, but it works fine. He could stand after a while because of the loosened rope. Just make sure you don't have it too loose, because, remember, it will lossen up after a while anyway without you doing anything to it. So either you can learn how to restring your doll in a short amount of time, or keep the strings just slightly tense and you'll be able to have it last a little longer. ^_^

Good luck~

Leave him every night in positions that stretch out the strings. Like on bended knees, or with his arms stretched out. Do this for a week or until you feel it's good. :3

His legs are fine, though he can't really stand on his own. It's his arms that are the problem.

Hhnn, I'm going to try a little bit of both and see what happens. Sooner or later I'm going to have to learn how to take them apart for re-stringing, but I was hoping to do that on a doll that wasn't so expensive XD

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it! heart

Another good way to get your doll restrung - and you may have to do that - is to take him or her to a meet-up and ask if anyone there knows how to do it, has the tools with them and is willing to help out.

I've done it so many times now @_@;;

Good thing you suggested that. Ere isn't the problem anymore, sueding him made a huge difference.
My Chubby is the problem now. I sueded him and he still kicks as if I hadn't.

You have a Chubby, right? Is it me or that knot for his legs strings impossible? I tried for an hour yesterday trying to get it to loosen up and the only thing I did was fray the fabric wound around the elastic. crying

I have a similar problem with my DZ Ying. He is my second doll, and when he came he was so tightly strung that his joints were jumping up on each other. I have no idea why he was strung so tightly, but I took him apart and I am looking for longer elastic. I have found 2m on the volks website but their shipping is insane. I might just try to stretch my elastic instead of getting new stuff, because I have looked EVERYWHERE around here and no one has even heard of it.

Anyway, my Ying is dismembered in a box with packing peanuts, and I miss his sexiness. D: I might restring and suede my other doll so I have something to do while I wait for everything to work out with ying.

Does anyone know a local place to get elastic? If stretching messes up my elastic for some reason (I am a clutz >_>) I want to have more waiting just in case. I also like to start with new stuff, so it would be nice to have new elastic. <3

I think my Lil' Momi's elastic is too tight, too. Her legs keep curling back, and her arms have issues staying in the same position. Like, if I try having her arm raised, it'll slide back down a bit.

i think most dolls have kicky issues at first... i know all of mine do, I'll look around and see if I have that little bag of stuff anymore, but I think my friend got it when she bought the Yen it came with... hmm... there was extra elastic string in there...

What is commonly attributed to too-tight stringing is almost always a fault with how the bodies are styled. Before you muck with the stringing, suede your doll. By nature these dolls have smooth round joints; unfortunately that also means there is very little to keep them from sliding! Kicking occurs when the joint gets the slightest pressure and just keeps on bending.
The easiest and cheapest way to suede is with hot glue. Get a low temperature gun and a couple sticks of glue- about $3-5 at Michaels craft store. Heat up the gun and just pull each joint as far back as you can. (It helps to have a friend) Drizzle glue on the inside of each joint, and it will cool in about 10 seconds. You don't even need to unstring your doll and it works amazingly well- I can get almost all my dolls to stand on one leg.
Doll elastic will already stretch over time, so getting longer elastic will just make them floppy. If you want replacement elastic (which is a good idea every couple years anyway) most online doll supply stores sell it. I've gotten it from http://dollsupply.com/default.aspx and
http://www.miniworlddolls.com/
ebay often has it too! They usually have a chart for what thickness elastic you need for the height.

In larger sockets like in the hips and chest you can also use moleskin, a type of fabric. Moleskin helps keep my boy's wigs from falling off but I recently went to a meet-up and saw my friend's Dollshe Saint who had some moleskin between where the head met the neck.
It moved like a dream, stayed in every position I put it in.
Erebos's kicking problem has been resolved with hot-glue sueading, though Lysander, my El, is proving to be more of a problem. He's strung to tightly that seperating his legs to put in the hot-glue is just about impossible, so he's going to have to be taken apart a little first. I smear the glue around in the socket with a popsicle stick to keep it even.
If that doesn't work I'm going to try the moleskin.

My Yasmine (Delf kid Cherry) was like that when I first got her. She also had restless legs i.e. you'd straighten them, the she'd bend her knews without even being touched. This always happened at bed time when I put her in her box. Maybe she was saying she didn't want to go to bed? lol
Anyway, this seems to have stop. She seems to have loosened up a little over time. You might find this also. If not you may need to restring him?
Or suede his joints? sweatdrop
