A vast desert that covers the center and southern part of the Earth Kingdom. The desert goes on for days, and has scarce life, other then a few cactus, which you should never eat, Buzzard Wasps, Sandbenders, and a few other desert dwelling people and creatures. It is easy to get lost here, but there are rumors of buried treasures, and lost civilizations that once populated the desert. There are a few oasis's around, but the chances of finding them are slim.

Jade stood in the vast desert. She looked surprising small againist the miles of sandy barreness. The young bender sighed and layed down in the sand. She closed her eyes and tried to remember what she had been told by an old earthbender.
'Every side element is a Purification of the main element. Take ice for instance, It's just frozen water. And lightning. It's just sky fire. There is one exception, though. Sand. Earthbenders can't bend sand and Sandbenders can't Bend earth. It just works that way.'
Jade shifted in the sand. She got up and started towards her camp.

When Jade reached her camp she was surprised to see 3 men wandering around it.
What are you doing here? she asked. Then men looked up, droped a piece of paper on the ground and went off.
Oi!!! she said running after them. The men sped up and she lost them in the derset haze. When she arrived back at her camp and picked up the letter. It read:
Dear Jade:
I have had great need to speak to you for a while, but I haven't found the right place. I have finally found a good location. meet me at Ba Sing Se, in the north side of town.
-Mayan

Jade looked up from her reading and sighed. Mayan was back.

Naru hated this dustbowl desert. He twiddled his thumbs, laying back-down towards the cloudless blue sky. He'd been stuck in the desert for three months, and it was starting to piss him off. After all, he was only a confused adolescent, wandering around a large heat trap composed of fine grained rock. Of course, to avoid any possibility of dieing, he lived in a small village surrounding a desert geyser. Knowing staring at the sky would get him absolutely nowhere, he picked himself up, dragging himself over to the nearest person to ask for directions out of the hellish place. Well, hellish in his opinion.

Jade was having a battle with herself as she packed up for Ba Sing Se.
"You should be happy to see him, It's been ages.", but the other side of her was puting up a good fight.
"He should be coming to YOU. Your the one that been waiting for him and why should you leave the desert." (This is all in her head (the talking) and No she's not mad). In the end she decided to go to Ba Sing Se anyway, she'll deal with Mayan there.

"Wait!" Naru cried, panting heavily as he dashed towards the girl. He put his hand on his knees, panting as he reached her. 'Great... now I've probably freaked her out...' He stood up, formalizing himself. Naru cleared his throat, beginning to speak what he had meant to say. "I noticed you're leaving the desert..." He began, articulating his speech by moving his left hand. "Is there any chance you'll let a weary traveler come with you?" He put his hand on the left side of his face, wearily finishing his speech. "I haven't been able to get out of this desert for quite some time, primarily because I lack the necessary supplies...." Naru spoke with shame. "Please let me come with you. I'm actually quite useful."

Jade considered him for a minute. Jade knew his type. Robbers. They caused her enough trouble as it was. Why should she allow one to travel with her? But he looked so desperate.

Okay. she muttered. But don't expect any special treatment. And you have to keep up. No wining. And no robbing.

"Suuuure, let's go visit some desert ruins! What better way to escape your mother's crazy plants!' Kou complained, her voice oozing with sarcasm as she kicked the sand. She had been lost for hours, after leaving what seemed to be the ruins of an old temple. She got to the runis with the help of some sand benders whom she paid to guide her, but they left after they brought her to her destination, ate some of her food and stole some of her money. She did have some reserve coins hidden inside her shirt, but money was of no use when you're lost in the desert.

She looked inside her bag to see if she had something useful. There were various knick knacks from her past journeys, like dolls, figurines, scrolls, cloth. She also had some scrolls with her and a map, but maps are useless when you have no idea where the nearest landmark is. It did not help that she was running out of water. She screamed, followed by a stream of curse words.

She spotted a cactus. Getting a knife from her bag, she cut part of the plant and put the juices in a bottle. She knew that these cacti had a defense mechanism other than their thorns, that their juices caused people to hallucinate. Still, there wouldn't be much to drink once she runs out of water. She continued her treck, crushing and reforming a rock in her hand like one would normally do to a stress ball.

Lee had entered the desert and began skating across the dry soil. As he sped across the desert he noticed a figure in the distance. And once he was closer he notice that it was indeed a person and not the desert heat playing tricks on his eyes. It only took him a few minutes to actually reach her but one he did he stopped and stood about ten feet in front of her. "Hello there. Are you lost?" Lee spoke in a sincere voice.

"THANK YOU SPIRITS!!!" Kou exclaimed, running towards the newcomer. She hugged him, slapped his face around a bit and then pinched herself. "You're not a mirage, are you? Definately not a mirage, right?" She slapped him again. "You're not! You're not a mirage!"

She bowed politely. "Sorry about that. I got lost and I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't starting to see things. My name is Kou Li. What's yours? Would you like some... uhm... cactus juice?" She grinned, handing him a bottle.

Lee was kind of like, what the hell when she started slapping him. But once she explained herself he didn't really seem to care. He then introduced himself. "My name is Lee Fong and it is a pleasure to meet you Kou Li. And its not really a good idea to be drinking that cactus juice. But what are you doing all the way out her?" Lee asked.

"Yeah, I guess not." She put the bottle back in her bag. "I was here to visit some ancient ruins. I paid some guides to take me there but they left me with little money and they ate all my food. Ooh! When I see those damn sand benders again I am going to bury them underneath solid rock!" She kicked the sand and pouted. She pulled out an old brass dagger from her bag, it's sheath was made of dark brown leather. "Souveneir?" she asked, handing the dagger to Lee.

"No thank you but I'll tell you what. If you help me train I show the way out of this desert." Lee replied. He was hoping she would agree because he was tired of training alone.

"Sure! I'll help you train!" Kou said gleefuly. She hurled a small rock at him. "But first lets find this oasis tavern." She fumbled around with a map and pointed to a small dot where there was said to be an oasis. "There's no use training with an empty stomach. And besides, I need to pawn these souveneirs I got from the temple off."
