Finally, she'd gotten away. Her parents always told her not to go out alone, especially daddy. In Zua's mind, she was a big, tough hyena that could handle anything. She didn't need to be protected, so she snuck out of the den when her parents were busy dealing with the others. They'd be looking for her soon, of course, but before that she wanted to find someone to play with her.

Her tiny paws carried her silently across the dusty ground of the graveyard, miniature paw prints leaving a clear trail of where she had been. One would think that she was injured by the way she walked, tottering to one side occasionally before righting herself, laughing all the while... Nothing was really funny, but the thought of her parents following after her while she was clearly going to get away made her giggle.

Laughing, gigglings, pattering of paws, all sounds that carried very well in the still, dusty air of the graveyard. Usually such sounds fell upon uncaring ears, but not today. While the young pup teetered around, an older male hyena was prowling about a good number of yards away. He wasn't doing anything... productive to say the least, but he was pretending like he was. And he was having fun. As the high pitched giggling reached the prince's ears, his head shot up.

A wide, goofy grin immediately settled upon his childish features. Sounded like another pup to play with him! The hyena could hardly contain himself as he pressed a paw to his mouth, surpressing a shriek of delight. Someone to play with him, it had to be! Whoever it was, they sounded happy, and happy hyenas loved to play. Bounding about a foot into the air, Mabozi took off in the direction of the sounds, eager to catch glimpse of his new alleged playmate. Of course, if whoever it was didn't want to play with him, they'd be severely out of luck, Mabozi found a game in everything possible.

Zua stopped her giggling as soon as she heard Mabozi coming, her ears flicked in his direction and she plopped herself down in the dust, waiting for him to appear from behind some bones or a rock, ready to pounce playfully on him if he was small enough.

Very soon, she saw him, and boy was he too big to pounce on. He was even bigger than mommy and daddy! Regardless, he had a smile on his face, and looked friendly. She stood back up and wagged her tail, her bright blue eyes sparkling with delight.

"Hey! Are you going to play with me?" She called to him, but there was no need, he was approaching fast. "I'm Zua, who're you?"

Mabozi careened like a rouge missle around some wayward bones, finally coming to a skidding halt infront of the blue and yellow pup. His face was alight with excitement, finally, another pup for him to play with! Now Mabozi wasn't at all bright. In his mind, he was still a few months old, and at the size. But it was quite the opposite. While in spirit, Mabozi had retained the mentality of a playful pup, he, as Zua had noticed, had grown extremely large. Not that Mabozi himself would use that size to hurt anybody... Anything else living in his head might think otherwise, however...

But not today, today he was going to have fun. Looking upon this new pup, Mabozi tilted his head. She looked familiar, and yet he'd never seen her before. But at her words, thoughts of who she was didn't matter,

"YAAH! I'LL PLAY WITH THA'!"

The male's rear wiggled as he wagged his whispy tail furiously, that lazy drawl that he'd inherited from his father echoing into the quiet air. Mabozi was not one for subtlety.

"I'm Mabozi! MaMa is my MaMa!"

The 'kid' beamed proudly. He loved his mother more than anything, though just the opposite could be said for her.

Zua flinched at the loudness of his voice, but enjoyed his willingness to play all the same. Loud wasn't always bad, right? It puzzled her, however, that one so large like mommy and daddy could act like her. Sure, she loved her parents, but they didn't like to play as much as her siblings did.

"Hi Mabozi!" She smiled, "Well o' course you mama is your mama, silly!" She laughed, unexpectedly flopping on one side and rolling onto her back, roaring with laughter. Zua wasn't the smartest hyena, but she never made such an obvious statement like Mabozi just had.

Staying on her back, she found it quite comfy, and looking up at Mabozi, she asked "What do ya want to play?"

A small speck of drool dripped slowly out of Mabozi's mouth as he dully tried to comprehend what Zua had just said. He understood it out of his own mouth, but out of someone else's, he was clueless. Blinking quickly, he was cleared of his trance and he pattered his paws in excitement on the dusty ground.

As Zua flopped onto her back, Mabozi felt a quiver of excitement flow through him. With a high pitched squeal, he pounced over her, back and forth a few times, creating quite a stirr. This was one of his favorite games! Before getting into position, Mabozi's head swooped down, his big, wet nose touching with the pups as he yelled in high exciteability,

"ROOOOOOLLING!"

With that, he dramatically threw himself onto his back, right next to Zua, and started feverishly rolling about in the dust, laughing, cackling, and giggling all the way through.

Zua blinked a couple times, thinking to herself... Had she just invented a new game? Well that was good, right? Right. Now all that was left to do was play with her new friend!

"Ya, rolling!" She laughed, thrashing slightly as she started to roll around, though she was careful not to get TOO close to Mabozi. He was just playing of course, but he could accidentally hit her.

She giggled as she rolled around in the dust, a thin layer gathering all over her body. She shook her head slightly to get it out of her eyes, and ended up with some up her nose.

"Atchoooo!" She squeaked, sending a puff of dust flying as she sneezed.

Mabozi, on the other hand, was oblivious to the dust he was kicking up. By now, he was enveloped in a large, thick cloud of dust. It was caking up in his slobbery mouth, making disgusting mud, but he didn't mind. As he heard his new friend sneeze, he stopped rolling, and flipped into his belly, looking at with an over joyed and muddy smile.

"Tha' is fun!!"

He sure had stumbled upon a good find, his new friend was quite entertaining. Suddenly, as another thought sprung into his head, he bolted upright. Glazed eyes staring intently on Zua, he spoke,

"Does tha' like play run?! I DOOO!"

With that, he nudged her with his snout, leaving a muddy, slobbery spot on her once pristine fur, and darted off. His rear end tucked in as he gallopped away from the pup, almost as if he thought he was a cheetah, or something of the like, since he didn't know what a cheetah was. He looped around in this romp, circling Zua, and bolting off again, hoping she'd follow him.

Play run? Running wasn't a game... Or was it? Perhaps it was just how he said tag, but running was still kind of fun, even if it was tiring.

"Hey, wait up!" quickly stumbling to her feet, she darted after him. She was tiny and quick, but Mabozi had much longer legs, she was no match for him.

"No fair!" She called after him, quickly losing ground.

Mabozi quickly darted more laps around the perimeter of the area they sat in, looking absolutely ridiculous as he did so. He wasn't exactly listening to what Zua was saying, he just heard her high pitched voice echo in his empty head as he sprinted around mindlessly. It was as if he had just been shot full of adrenaline by some omnipotent force. But, his energy didn't last but five minutes before he trotted back to where Zua was running behind him. He slowed to a canter, drooling madly all over the place,

"Tha's good a' run!"

He flashed a charming little smile and tilted his head up, letting out a cackle. He energy seemed boundless, however, no matter how tired he was, he still was up for romping and playing around. No one had wanted to play with him in a looooong time.

Mabozi may have been full of energy, but Zua was getting tired. Sure, she wanted to play, but she couldn't keep going forever.

"Yeah. Good run." She panted in agreement, stopping where she was and watching Mabozi as he ran around. He was quite strange, she had decided that much, but he was still very much fun to be around.

Perhaps the next game would not require so much energy... Well, probably not.

All it took was about five seconds for Mabozi to catch his breath and rewind his energy for another romp. He titled his head at Zua. How could she be getting tired when there was so much to do? Well, perhaps his games weren't her favorite games. Mafa had always told him to be fair, unless dealing with an un-hyena creature. And Zua... Mabozi leaned in, his nose inches from Zua's tuft of mane, and took a deep long sniff, sneezing lightly as her whispy baby fur tickled his nose... Yes, most definitely a hyena, phew.

"Now es tha's turn! Pic' a game!"

The male cantered a few circles around his new friend before plopping down infront of her, head tilted heavily in question.

"My turn?" Zua panted, eyeing Mabozi curiously as he sniffed her. What was he doing? Oh well, at least now she could pick something that hopefully wouldn't tire her out so much.

"Ya like playing fight?" She asked, wagging her tail. Okay, so it wasn't something that wouldn't tire her out, but then again, it was her favorite. She growled playfully, crouching down. Her ears pinned back and her entire body springing forward to pounce at his paw. He was big, but if they were just playing, he wouldn't hurt her, right?

Mabozi reeled back a little. What was this 'fight' game that the little female was alluding to? Mafa had always told him that when he got older, he'd have to fight with the lions. Fighting a lion meant killing a lion... Did Zua want to kill him?

The male's ears perked at Zua growled quietly, flattening herself and then springing up, pouncing on his paw. As he felt the light touch, Mabozi let out a shriek, and recoiled. He looked upon Zua pitifully, and with fear. He thought they were playing, why was she trying to hurt him?

Zua giggled at Mabozi, he was so silly! She was about to pounce again when she looked up at his face. He looked scared, but why?

"You've never done play fight before?" She asked, "You know, wrestle?" Maybe not. After all, for being so big Mabozi didn't seem too bright.

"Um, how about we play find the bone?" She suggested, not wanting to have to explain a whole new concept to him. "Bet I'll find the best one." She taunted, rushing over to a nearby pile and digging through it, searching for one that was the right size and preferably had few cracks. It was one of her favorite games because when it was over, she got to keep the bone.
