Wandering, always wandering. Telperion stood still and silent for a moment, tongue lolling in the heat of the day. Never stop hunting, never stop looking. Mother and Father would have to stop running someday...

The white and gold lion thought longingly of water as he took a step out. There were green growing things not too fzar off. Where there was green there was water. And possibly his parents. Maybe they'd been gone long enough to forgive him. Maybe they'd love him again and stop hiding.

Another step. Why was he so thirsty and hot? It hadn't been that long ago he'd had water. Was this another way his parents were punishing him? Had they learned magic?

As that thought crossed his fevered mind, Telperion took another step. Another. Then, somethign happened and his eyes stopped focusing.

"'s so hot..." he mewled cublike as he fell to the earth.

The air was sweltering so she'd taken up a perch shaded by thick leaves and high enough that should a breeze blow she'd be able to take full advantage of it. It was far too hot to hunt or play, unless she was playing in the water, so napping seemed like a good idea.

She'd been all set to fall asleep when she heard what she thought for a moment was a cub crying. Frowning she sat up and looked toward the sound. That was no cub, well maybe it was if it was a big cub, but whatever it was didn't look alright.

Carefully crawling down from her perch she wandered over to the white mass that was fallen in the grass. Strange ... why would he be out here at this time of day. Everyone napped when it was this hot right? It wasn't safe not to. "Well you must have had a moment of stupid." Shaking her head she nudged the lion to see if he would stand. Her mother had told her to be careful of male lions but if he was sick then he wouldn't hurt her right?

When he didn't stand or respond when she nudged him she huffed again. "I bet you were trying to hunt weren't you." Nudging him again she tried as best she could to get him at least fully in the shade where it was cooler.

Eyes fluttering, Telperion fought back against the heat and tried very hard to focus on who it was talking to him. For a moment, hope surged in his heart.

"Mo... mommy...?" he rasped, voice thick as his throat closed, desperate to hold what little moisture was left. "'zat you, Mommy?"

For a brief moment, strength flowed back into his limbs as he dragged himself into the shade. It was still too hot as far as his weary body was concerned. Once in the shade, Telperion collapsed, eyes closing as he gave a broken purr. With any luck, he'd finally caught up to hi parents. They'd never leave him again.

He eyes widened when he spoke. No no no she wasn't his mommy. She wasn't anyone's mommy. "Umm .... i don't think you're mommy's here. I haven't seen anyone around in a long time unless you count that lizard i saw last night."

He probably wasn't listening to her at this point. Sitting back on her haunches she tilted her head and looked at him. He'd defiantly been out in the heat too long. That had to be why he'd called her mommy.

Telperion lay unmoving for a long while as his body cooled itself off. Slowly opening his eyes, he yawned hugely. Somethign good had happened, now what had it been...? Oh ys!

Jumping to his feet and wobbling, he looked around expectantly for his mother. She was a good mother, she wouldn't have run away while he was feeling bad. No, she would have stayed and tended him. It was what a good mother did.

Glancing around, he oinly saw a blue creature that wasn't his mother. She wasn't even a lion. Eyes narrowign suspiciously, he stared at the creature.

Lowering his voice to a threatening growl, he turned and began stalking up to the blue thing, "Where is my mother? She was just here! If you did somethign to her, I'll hurt you..."

He couldn't have lost her! Not after having looked for so long!

"Wha...ohh!! You're mother wasn't here. Just me. You called me mamma while you were asleep." She nodded and smiled at him. Somehow his change in tone never crossed her mind. It was a wonder how she'd survived this long with her attitude.

"Are you looking for her? I mean if you are i'd think that looking though the prides would be better right?" That's where lions were wasn't it? they didn't go wandering around alone like her.

The white and gold lion pulled up sharply, blinking in confusion as he absorbed the blue thing's words. She was smiling and acting nice. Maybe she was telling the truth. Sitting rather abruptly, Telperion hung his head sadly. So they were still running away from him for being so bad. They hadn't stopped being upset at him.

"I've been looking for her for years. Have you seen a male and female lion anywhere this way?" he looked up, red eyes silently imploring this blue creature to give him the news he so desperately wanted.

"Umm .. no, sorry." That wasn't good. He looked like he really wanted to find them and she hadn't been looking out for anything. Stupid of her. If she'd been paying more attention then maybe she could have helped him.

"But i wasn't really looking either..." She corrected herself quickly in case he though she was slacking. "I could help you look though. I mean the patch of trees is really big so maybe they're in there somewhere"

"You'd help me look?" Telperion felt his jaw go slack a little at this. Why, no one had ever offered to help him in his quest. The lionesses at home had even tried to discourage him by stating his parents had died! And here was a strange blue thing who wasn't a lion offering to help. Maybe there was hope after all.

He gave a happy wriggle and smiled happily.

"I'd very much appreciate your help, uhhm.. I don't know your name...?"

"Sure. It would be mean of me not to since i'm here and all and you're looking." Her parents had told her to be helpful so she should be. She had been presented an opportunity to feel useful and not just lay around all day!

"Kinyamkela, but you can call me Kinya if it's easier. Everyone else does." Or at least they would if she had that many friends.

"It's nice to meet you, Kinya" Telperion replied, all hostility and reseve gone. "My name's Telperion, but you can call me Tel. Where do you think we should look first?"

Fidgeting slightly, Telperion seemed to have shed away seasons of age, once more feeling like a hopeful kitten. With Kinya around to hel him, fiding his parents wouldn't take very long at all!

"You said you though they came this way right?" She stood up and trotted toward the trees. "So ... why don't we go look in there for a bit and see if we can find them?"

If they were lions, and they had to be, then they should be pretty easy to find. If you were white and yellow it wasn't that easy to hide in the dark green leaves. "I'm sure they've got to be close."

Telperion gave a bound forward, excited to begin.

"I'm sure I can find them if you help, Kinya. Thank you!"

Keeping pace with the female, Telperion wondered what his parents might think once he found them. Maybe he could convince them to go back to the pride?

She pushed under a large leaf and headed toward the center of the patch of forest. "So ..... i think if we head toward the spring that might be best. I mean if they came here to rest then that's probably where they are."

That's why she was there anyway. There was water and shade and prey came around often enough.

"You're the expert in this type of place, not me. I'll follow where you lead."

Telperion momentarily kicked himself for sounding overly gallant, but he'd meant the words. he didn't know or understand the jungle. Better to that stuff to the experts. Still, maybe he could learn a thing or two while he was here.
