It seems like an awfully cliche topic for 21+ discussion, and it's probably been brought up before in this guild, but . . .
What's up with your alcohol?
Any good drinks you've had lately, or favorite waterin' holes about town? Any mixers you recommend, special techniques you employ, or homemade cocktails you've blown friends away with? What's your favorite way to prevent/cure a hangover?
Let's discuss our drinkies.

I don't drink often, mostly just at three specific parties during the year--I reserve those times for getting so drunk I can't stand. (Mostly because at those places I'm with good friends who look out for me.) And at those parties I honestly couldn't tell you what I had to drink. But when I do drink otherwise it's always something like a Smirnoff Ice.
When I'm working the Ren Fair I have a hard cider every afternoon an hour before we close. It's my little tradition now.
My knowledge of alcohol doesn't extend much beyond that. sweatdrop

I don't drink, admittedly. I just never acquired a taste for alcohol, I guess.

When I was living in Germany, I use to go down to this one Irish Pub everyweek end. That was back in the day of when i was on a serious whiskey drinking binge. All I'm going to say is it got bad. lol Ended up drinking whiskey like it was water. Now that I'm back in the States, I've relaxed and almost come to a complete stop with drinking alcohol. Everyonce in a while I'll make myself a Screwdriver. I normally make it with 5 ice cubes in a large cup and 4 fingers of alcohol in the cup. Fill cup with a mixer.
If your not sure what the 4 fingers thing is... hold 4 fingers next to a cup and pour lol. 4 fingers makes a 50/50 drink most of the time. sweatdrop

I concur with Headhunter for the most part.
I have a few exceptions: A wine cooler or two every 3-6 months. It's the only alcoholic beverage I don't mind the taste of and is really, really mild.
Church wine, or as we Catholics call it, the blood of Christ.
I think for me the long history of alcoholics in my family has turned me off. That and I'm rather uninhibited when I'm sober. Most people get drunk cause it makes them wild. I don't need alcohol in me to do that, plus I like some level of control.
But I do like going out with friends on occasion. My two favorite places are in Columbia Mo: Sake and The Penguin. Sake has fabulous sushi and a contemporary theme mixed with elements of Japanese Interior design (it's gorgeous and their prices are VERY reasonable). The Penguin is a piano bar, it has a sort of feeling to it that makes me feel like I'm in an old movie smile I can also listen to the piano while drinking a soda.

A pint glass full of whiskey with a dash of coke for color lol I use to drink those only when I was drunk. That and Guiness. A bad mix. Guiness and whiskey. lol

I don't drink, ever, never have. In my opinion it tastes yucky. I also saw way too many wasted people as a child, I had a couple of alcoholic uncles that basically turned me off the whole experience.
It's funny, being considerably older now, when I tell people "no thanks, I don't drink", they assume I'm a recovering alcoholic. I usually get this pause, a strange look and then an Ahhh um ok, would you like a soda instead?
*LOL* Oh well.

Hehe, I'm not a big drinker, which excluded me from the bar scene, meaning I didn't make one good friend in my college undergraduate time because this is a big party town. ;(
Anyway I'm not exactly a teetoler, I enjoy a good glass of wine, but I can't have more than a half-glass or I get a massive migraine. I don't like beer or hard liquor but once I had a mixed drink with coconut rum in it that I liked. once. But usually if someone asks me if I drink, I say "no," because It's so rare compared to other folks my age.. though I'm surprised that this thread seems to have a nice selection of non-drinkers, which actually makes me kinda happy because I always feel like the odd one out. I definitely always leave wherever I am if people are getting drunky... I don't like to deal with it.
I do make a pretty awesome fondue with brandy in it, though. xD

Ok, no offense to you non-drinkers, because I totally respect that you choose not to do it, but I like to drink. Not all the time but at least once or twice a month (sometimes more depending on what month it is) I like to drink. If I am just going for the quick "let's pick up some beers", I drink Smirnoff Artic Berry! It is so great! it's their newest flavor...taste like blueberries! yum! 4laugh If I don't know the bar/club that I am being dragged to (and there-by do not know what the bartender makes well) I'll order either a gin & juice or a whiskey sour (I love sour drinks!), until I get to talking with the bartender and find out what's good. At home I usually will make one of those 2, or a rum & coke...or if I am feeling adventurous, a Bahama Mama, an Alabama Slammer or a June Bug. Speaking of June Bugs, I stole the recipee from TGIFridays. If you ever go there, get one, they are awsome! It's pinapple juice, Malibu rum, banana liquor, midori and a splash of light rum. I've never had a bad Long Island Iced Tea in there either. Oh, i'm from Mobile, and while we have some great bars/clubs down here, if y'all want a real good time, and are ever in the Pensacola, FL area, go to Seville Quarter...7 different bars in one...they take up a whole block in dowtown! it's great. I recommend Rosie O'Grady's (the dueling piano bar) Apple Annies (where alot of local bands play) and Phinneas Fogs (the dance club) 4laugh Anyway...now that I sound like a drunkard! At least I have the distinct ability of having no hangover. All I am is sleepy from staying up all night! blaugh

Apple Annies sounds like my kind of place. But I don't think I'm going to drive about 6 hours just to go there LOL

Well, if you ever need a place to go, Pensacola is cool...they have a kickin' bar, beaches, the Naval air base...and if you swing by next year, you can come to Mobile for Mardi Gras! (P'cola has some small parades of their own, as well)

Ugh... I'll pass on Mardi Gras. I live in Louisiana and I've already been once. Got choked out by a cop too. Good times. xp

Mobile's pegged "the family Mardi Gras", we keep it more within our societies rather than pimping it out. New Orleans is known for it, Mobile started it. Jow Cain Day is especially fun! 3nodding

I have never had a hangover, though I was totally expecting one when I got drunk for the first time. Everyone who had half as much as me was miserable the next day while I was happy and bouncy. No idea why, my dad has never had a hangover either.
