Crouch. Step. Step. Freeze as it twitches. Crouch lower. Step. Eiros was 'hunting,' and seemed to be doing a passable job today. That was to say, the squirrel hadn't noticed him yet. Pale, bright blue eyes narrowed in concentration as the shadowy grey pup sank even lower into his stalking crouch, belly brushing the ground. Closer...closer...he could almost taste the moment to pounce.

Completely focused on his prey, Deimos pounced, jumping almost straight into the air. He landed on the squirrel and had his jaws tearing into it within seconds.
Fresh meat was something he had frequently, but squirrel meat was his favorite, and the damn little critters were hard to catch. Tail wagging like a banner above him, he gathered his prey into his jaws, ready to take it somewhere secluded. He turned around, satisfied that his hunting skills were getting better.
It was then that he saw the other pup.
Instantly, his hackles raised, and a growl fell from his throat, slightly muffled by the furry body in his mouth. Ears flattening against his skull in anger, he stood tall, tail almost straight up. There was no way he was giving up his lunch.

Still frozen in his crouch, Eiros could simply watch in shock and mute outrage as he was rudely alerted that there was another predator stalking his prey. When the other pup finally noticed him, it was clearly hostile. Eiros flattened his own ears, legs stiffening as he raised up from his crouch. "Don't be growling at me, stranger," he snapped, clearly sore over being deprived of his sport and some extra lunch. "I'm not the one who stole a kill." His eyes bored into a pair only a shade or two deeper than his own with irritation. Chances were he might have laughed it off with a different reaction, but it simply would not fly that this stranger stole his kill and THEN had the nerve to be hostile.

Snorting, Deimos dropped his prey between his front paws, a smirk curling his maw. "Go chew on a log, puppy." With that, he took up his lunch and turned, trotting away.
Stole a kill his fluffy rear-end. He had been stalking that squirrel for an hour; it was his damnit. And he was going to enjoy it.
Without warning, a huge male fox leapt from the bushes, snarling viciously at him. Its fur was so fluffed, it looked twice as big as normal, and Deimos took a small step back, a growl in his throat.
Still unable to give up his meal, he met the fox head on when it lunged at him, teeth going for his throat.

With a growl, Eiros padded after the older pup, determined to at least wrest an apology from the arrogant thief. His ears flattened as the fox appeared, conflicting urges warring within him. He was tempted to simply let the other pup take care of himself, it would serve him right if he lost. And yet...
Damn chivalric urges.
Eiros charged into the fray, small sharp fangs digging into the fox's hind leg.

Snarling like an adult wolf, Deimos reared up onto his hind legs, smacking the fox between the eyes with his head. The fox never saw it coming, and was stunned for a few seconds, not even noticing the other pup attached to his leg. Deimos saw the creature's gaze fall to the forgotten squirrel, and the spotted pup snatched it up, tossing it at Eiros.
"Don't let the damn thing get my food!" he growled, turning on the fox when its teeth sank into his leg. "Go play with some bunny rabbits you stupid, species confused fuzzball!"

The spur of a common enemy seemed to have forced a camraderie between the two pups. Eiros, startled, released his grip on the leg to catch the rabbit, waiting for the fox to be distracted before whirling and throwing some of the leaf litter aside with his forepaws, quickly dropping the squirrel there and hiding it by scuffing the leaves back over it. He bolted back to n** at and harass the fox, keeping one eye on the enemy and one eye on the hiding spot.

Realizing that a tiny little squirrel wasn't worth a scuffel with two determined pups, the fox took one last shot at Deimos, ripping at his ear, before hissing and bounding away.
Barking uproariously in triumph, the spotted puppy kicked out his back paws, sending up a flurry of snow. Then he snorted and turned around to look at Eiros.
"I didn't need your help," he scoffed, sniffing out his dinner from the leaf litter. "Now go back to mommy and daddy, little puppy."

Eiros' hackles rose far higher than they had even for the fox. "Ungrateful cur," he spat. "Who was it that tossed it to me, saying, 'don't let the thing get it?' Would you have preferred me taking advantage of your distraction to slip away with it? Would you, huh?!" A low growl accompanied his words. "I should have, then you wouldn't be so damn ungrateful the next time."

Jerking his head in a shrug, Deimos sat on his haunches, tongue lolling. Damn fox had worn him out, and he realized belatedly that his ear was bleeding pretty well.
"I don't understand why you didn't. I actually expected to turn around, and see you and my dinner gone." Not used to seeing good in another wolf, Eiros' behavior baffled him; had he been in the other puppy's place, he would be long gone, and full of tasty squirrel meat.

"Then why did you throw it to me?" Eiros tilted his head, pale eyes focused on the other pup. "I don't think you wanted me to have it instead of the fox, so the only thing I can think of is you trusted me to hang onto it for you." Deimos' words confused him, if the pup had thought that would happen why'd he throw it to Eiros? "Wouldn't have been right, that's something an omega does 'cause he's not strong enough to get much otherwise."

"I don't trust wolves," he replied bluntly, scratching at his wounded ear with his hind foot. "I was taking a risk." Shaking his head at the confused look on the other puppy's face, Deimos sighed. The pup didn't understand because he had a family. He hadn't had to fight as Deimos had for everything.
"Okay, pup. Chill your little brain. If you don't get it, then I can't explain it to you, so don't hurt yourself over it." His ear was really starting to both him now; a vicious headache was forming behind his eyes, and he felt a little woozy.
"You know what, have the squirrel. I don't want it anymore." The thought of eating suddenly made him want to curl in a ball and whimper.

Eiros blinked, now confused even more. All he could say was, "...Why?"

Deimos shook his head, trying to dispel the cotteny haze that had settled over his brain. However, the only thing he succeeded in doing was causing a spike of pain to explode from his temples.
His last thought was something along the lines of Damn fox . . . before he slumped to the ground, blood pouring from his badly torn ear.

Damn.
Eiros whined anxiously, ears flattening to his skull. He understood all too well the danger of being out here, unconscious, alone, bloody. The bigger, older pup would quickly attract predators unless he woke up soon.
The blue-grey pup settled down next to Deimos, trying ineffectually to clean some of the blood off until the bleeding didn't seem so bad. As his stomach abruptly growled, he gave in and ate a little of the squirrel, leaving the bigger half for when the spotted pup woke.
Why couldn't this happen with a female or something? Then he'd be able to bring home a friend like Dax had brought Bindi. Somehow Eiros doubted that would happen here.
