Dawn was breaking, sending a vibrant glow of orange across Urin, its tentacles of light just illuminating those which stood in its path.

Promise.

That was the word Kali used to describe the landscape, with its eerie colors and dark back premonitions. She always did look on the positive side of things, despite the protests of her far more realistic parent. She stood near her tree, the one shared by her three siblings. Some were there, and some had long since departed, wishing nothing more to do with mother.

Kali herself left every morning. She watched the sun rise, and then went to travel the world. In a few short months, she would no longer carry the longing sensation to stay that clung to the young adult. It is in this time that she would venture out for those great stories she promised Lilith that she would some day gather. It was a promise she intented to keep, more for herself than the throwback colored sister she so loved.

Loneliness was a bitter thing on the heart. Yet, she thought, most crossbreeds such as herself would forever have to deal with them. They were viewed darkly, and she went forwards in the blackness with only a golden horn to shield the questions, awe, jealously, and scorn of those who watched her figure. Some would know her as the daughter that was born of ill. Between Seer and Apathy, certainly a combination for demise. She hoped, in heart, that they may look past that or never see it in the beginning. She decided, however, that Lilith would have far better luck with that.

But they all bore the tell-tale signs of their eyes. Hers being grey, and the other blue. One could only hope they didn't know the legend, but she was going to change that, as she planned to learn them all, and make some of her own.

With a bitter sigh, she broke the calm and stepped out of the welcoming shadow of her tree into the world that lay below. Even though no predators lurked, there were emotions of the intelligent to ruin the perfect peace of the Nequus world.

Gwydion slowly trotted around, not knowing, or caring, where his hooves lead him. His sightless eyes didn't dare scan the horizen. He knew it would be useless for him to do so. Instead, he let his ears swivel around, capturing the sounds around him. He knew that taking his gait slow and easy would help him catch the sounds better, but there were a few times where he took his gait a little faster than he should have, but he ended up where he wanted to be in one piece.

Feeling the growing warmth from the sun on his back, he lowered his head slightly. Sunlight would soon engulf the area, causing the other Nequus to wake up. Slowing his gait to a slow walk, he lifted his head up and pretended to gaze around. Not wanting to reveal to the others of his own kin that he was blind, he had lead a wonderful, friendless life until he met another Nequus-one of the opposite gender of himself. It was then that he realized that he couldn't go on with life living like a shadow or a ghost.

Stopping in his tracks, he heard and felt the vibrations of another Nequus wandering around. Not sure of where the other Nequus was coming from, he stood up straight and stomped a hoof on the ground. "Who approaches?" he asked in a loud voice.

It was the voice that dragged the white stallion from his peaceful grazing. Morthan raised his head and muttered a curse; other Nequus were around and his eyes were still not working quite up to spec. The world around him was blurry and disjointed but improved with every step the sun took into the sky.

Pale blue eyes squinted thoughtfully at the sun. It was weak and wintry, promising not to burn him too badly especially in the early hours and if he stuck to the shade. Perhaps leaving his forest had been a mistake - he'd certainly been fried several times when he hadn't been able to find shelter - but he couldn't seem to regret it.

It had been far too long since he'd been so much as a day away from his safe little home and he wasn't sure if he'd ever come this far out since settling there.

Much though he might mutter and complain to himself about the presence of others of his kind, the albino stallion had to admit that he had enjoyed being in company for a change. Very few Nequus had turned out to be as disagreeable as he usually assumed them to be and the bulky creature he could just about make out probably wouldn't be too bad either.

Morthan squinted at it some more, frowning slightly. Dark body, bright blue mane and tail with... Well it looked like a pattern of bones but raised. The pale-bodied Reya stared for a moment longer before his eyes widened in shock. Not a pattern. Real bones on the outside of the Aeri's, for Aeri the other stallion was, body.

Perhaps going out to meet this stranger wasn't such a bright idea after all. As he hesitated, a movement on the very edge of his vision - which was still horribly poor - caught his attention and the pigmentless being's head snapped around.

The sight that met his eyes made him smirk faintly. Great; two other people and this one was almost as odd as the boned stallion.

The albino snorted softly to himself; a meeting of three freaks. Provided the Aeri wasn't as aggressive as he was unnerving, this might turn out to be quite an interesting day.

Smiling faintly to himself, the curve-horned male stepped out from behind the patch of bushes that had acted as a barrier between himself and the two others.

The next move was up to them.

Lilith woke to see the dawn breaking and saw her sister watching the sunrise. Kali always had every morning. Lilith smiled, watching her sister think. Silently she stood and strode up behind her sister "You aren’t alone" Kali's youngest sister smiled standing beside her. A long spiral gray horn shot out from her forehead. One golden eye and one gray gazed outward coming up beside Kali.

Through their childhood they had always been together, and making their parents worry one more than the other anyway. Liliths hair had grown considerably her tail was much longer than Kali’s but their mane about the same length. Lilith felt Kali was leaving and it made Lilith worry that Kali would leave her. She looked at her sister "Mind if I come?" she asked blowing her forelock out of her face.

Lilith had always been with Kali not mater what and she didn’t see that changing anytime soon. Lilith didn’t really have the same bond with her other sisters as she did with Kali, the only reason she was still at her tree was because of Kali. She could have left a long time ago but then Kali would be alone. And so would Lilith for that matter.

Lilith didn't even know what she wanted to do at this point in her life she was only a young adult. She flicked her white ears back and drew another breath. What was she to do? she was only a crossbreed hated by all pure bred. No one would accept her besides her family and she wasn't quite ready to face that yet even though she could brave other things. Her sisters couldn't this was her fear. Her fear that wouldn't go away its said that everyone always is afraid of at least one thing and that was her fear.

Kali froze, the voice of the boned Nequus ringing in her ears. She kept telling herself over and over that he was the same as her, he just looked different, and it was this that made the fear rush through her bones. It was that, alone, that made her feel a hint of disgust towards this creature. He was just like her. Unfortunately, it wasn't working.

Luckily for her, Lilith quickly approached. Kali greeted her with a warm smile and a small nuzzle on the neck. Just the thought of having her right there beside her kept Kali's heart pumping just a little bit slower. Nothing in the world could stop her now.

She shook her head, a clear sign that she did not mind Lilith's presence. "I'd be grateful if you did," she answered, doing her best to speak the whole truth, though no words could ever express thoughts. At times she wished she was mother, for the very reason that she could delve into all those emotions, retrieve all those vivid memories. Envy was one sin she had above all.

She was about to move forwards to respond when the haunting sight of a pure white male caught her eye. There was too much strangeness in one day for her little head. She furrowed her brows together to try and gain assessment of the situation, but she really didn't know what move to make next.

"Kali!" she shouted out proudly to the boned Aeri. "Daughter of Storm and Velg'larn, sister to Lilith," she paused her as a smile came to her lips, "Desdemona, and Espera." It was her traditional greeting, and Storm couldn't figure out whether to eyeroll or proudly puff out her chest at the sound of it. It was so unlike her daughter. Yet the mare wasn't here to think these things, so Kali had to imagine them for her.

"Oy," she called nervously to the white. "You have a reason for being so anti-social?" Kali obviously didn't have a problem with butting into other peoples lives.

"What do you make of them?" she asked her taller sibling in a whisper, her eyes shifting between the two Nequus of interest.

Gwydion swung his head around as a voice rang out, indicating where one of the couple of Nequus who had came into the area was located. He could hear the beating of the heart of another Nequus next to the one who had spoken out at him. He smirked slightly as he turned his body so that he didn't strain his neck.

"My, my, what an introduction for someone who is scared of me," he said in a soft, hoarse voice. Sensing the albino in the shadows of the trees, he turned his head in the direction of the other stallion as he stomped a hoof. "What makes you so shy that you need the protection of trees to hide your fears? You must have something to hide or else you would be out here chatting with these lovely ladies." He spread a wing out, indicating the two mares in front of them. "I'm sure they would love your attention."

He turned his gaze back to Kali and smirked wider. "Well, then, Miss Kali, daughter of Storm, why are you up and about this early of a morn when the sun barely rising over the mountain side? I would have thought that your kin would still be fast asleep under your precious tree, having sweet dreams of finding a kind stallion to make a mate into." He had no dreams like that. His were filled with hatred and bad stuff. "Surely an innocent mare like yourself would be out in the D'ob area with the bachelor stallions." He had no idea that they were crossbreeds, though if he did he would probably wouldn't care what species of Nequus they were. Nequus were Nequus-no questions asked.

The albino flicked a scowl at the other stallion. "It was just where I happened to be grazing, I was unaware until a moment that I had company at all or I would have come out sooner. Your argument that I hid from them out of some fear or other is quashed quite effectively by the fact that I emerged as soon as I heard voices, I believe."

Shaking his head to himself, the pale-eyed male turned to inspect the crossbreed, or more accurately the two crossbreeds. "My name is Morthan, Kali. I apologise for not introducing myself immediately, no offence was intended."

The stallion twitched his muscular tails and turned his gaze back onto the Aeri of disturbing exterior. It seemed, the white Nequus considered, that he'd found a creature as embittered with the world as he was in his blacker moods. Today however, he was not in such a dark temper and found contempt at such conduct mingling with his lingering apprehension of the great beast.

Surely any fool would realise that rudeness to complete strangers was foolish, especially when all of said strangers possessed vicious horns. Perhaps he counted on the ivory crusting on his skin to guard him from them. The seasoned stallion eyed the gaps between each rib-bone for a moment.

Not a problem, he thought, grimly hoping that the grey creature wasn’t looking for a fight. The fact that he could drive his horn home without too much trouble didn’t mean he would escape such a clash unscathed.

The white bloodstained mare smiled "Of course." then nuzzled her sister back. Although now wasn't the time to share affection when there were others around. Lilith Tuned her neck to see the white albino Reya appear after the boned Aeri.

Lilith took a step in front of Kali after she announced her name. Lilith heard Kali's voice tremble "It's ok" she whispered to Kali to comfort her. "I am Lilith." she said no trace of fear in her voice. Her eyes flashed dangerously if either of the two harmed her sister. She flicked her blood red tail.

"What dreams?" she snorted rolling her eyes she was not so innocent. She nor Kali would find a mate they were crossbreeds. Her horn looked menacing glinting in the sunlight "I came to be with my Sister." she glared "And what brings you out?" she closed her silver and dark wings. Lilith was quite muscualar and dangerous when she was in the defense of her kin.

"If you are looking for a fight just say so Morthan." Lilith growled as she saw were the Reya was eyeing.

"Fear is a plague of the mind," she answered the boned. She doubted he would try anything with all these other Nequus around, and besides this, his bitterness acted upon the fear everyone had of him. She would spend her whole life trying to prove that crossbreeds were no different, while he strengthened a legend she would make of him.

Her eyes moved towards the white as the boned Aeri spoke. They were dark words, wishing for hurt. Yet, she doubted that the boned would find any of it, for the one called Morthan seemed to retort only with his foul words, as did her sister. She chuckled at the war that raged between them, one which she intented to keep out of. There was no point to it, when all she wanted was the stories of their lives. This was certainly no way to get it.

"Yes, I would love his attention," Kali spoke up among the ruckus. "If only to hear about these ails you so clearly say he has." Her eyes focused on the white. A Reya, one who loves the darkness, and yet, he was here in the beginning of the day, as though fleeing from that path he led before.

"I have no dreams about the kindness of others," she told the boned Aeri simply. "Only those of fires, and cliched deaths of families. No princes come to whisk me away - I am a crossbreed." Her mother once was a Jala, full of blood, but something had changed. Whether that body remained Jala or not, her appearance (and those of her daughters) were clearly otherwise.

It was only then she turned to Morthan, dealing with each seperately, as though they lived on two different planes of a world. "None taken," she responded with a smile, noting his obvious change in nature.

She could do nothing but watch, however, as her sister spoke. She was the protector, Kali the explorer. She'd rather walk, and Lilith, Kali wasn't sure what her sister wanted out of life. "Lilith," she spoke softly. She wasn't sure what she meant by it, there was certainly no chance of pulling her sister off of a fight, but she didn't want to see one occur, either. That was one story she wished to keep from her book for a time.

Gwydion ignored the albino's statement that he was merely grazing. 'Likely story,' he thought to himself bitterly. Gwydion didn't dare say his name to the other stallion and two mares that were in front of him. He would say it in due time, though, but not at this very moment. He flicked an ear at the two femme's words, deciding to answer Lilith's question first. "Just merely passing by. Is that a crime now?" He canted his head to one side and turned his 'gaze' towards the other sister. "Fear blocks everything, even common sense. It is good to hear that you aren't afraid of me."

Keeping his attention to Kali as he heard her answer his statement about dreams, he canted his head slightly. He had no idea the two mares were crossbreeds until then and he snorted loudly, stomping a hoof onto the soft ground. "Crossbreed or not you are still a Nequus. I don't care if you are half Aeri and Half Jala, you are who you make yourself be. Don't let the fact that you are a crossbreed get in the way of your goals. Even though I am blind I don't let that get in the way of me finding my way around this big land."

He didn't see that Morthan was eyeing his boned body or else he would have snapped at the other stallion. He hated fighting more than anything in the world due to the fact that someone always got hurt, whether or not it was him. He flicking his blue tail slowly as he heard Lilith mention something about a fight. "There will be no fights in my presense. I may not be able to see anything, but I am not a fool when it comes to whether someone is fighting or not. It is a terrible thing someone can do with another Nequus."

Morthan twitched his muscular tails into a more comfortable position and shook his head at the white and red crossbreed. "I'm not here to fight anyone, violence is pointless. Don't mistake me, I'll protect myself if I'm attacked but I don't start fights. Only idiots start fights." At least the purple-gold mare seemed a little more rational than her sibling. He couldn't help but feel kindly disposed towards her for having similar colouring to his two sisters but her demeanour had definitely improved his opinion of her.

"I have to agree with..." the Reya gave a mental shrug, wasn't his fault he'd nothing to call the other stallion by. "With him so far as crossbreeds go as well. I was sceptical of them as a youngster and I wasn't kind to the one that I knew. I grew out of it though when I realised that my treatment of them was little different to how many Nequus liked to look down on me for being different. Still, I don't think it's a factor anyone should discount. The different will always be a target, it pays to be a little wary."

The white stallion looked back towards the blue-tailed Aeri. Now that he had answered all that he felt the need to, he could contemplate the other creature. He knew what it was to be sightless, but only for a part of the day. What must it be like to spend one's whole life in that deep darkness? Was it easier to live with, not knowing anything else? Or was it harder, having to count of ears and feel every moment of every day. Morthan settled his wings against his flanks more comfortably and glanced up at the sky. Would he trade what vision he had if he could take away the burns that sunlight inflicted upon him in the same move? The horned Nequus lowered his gaze again and chided himself for such wonderings. The opportunity would never come to him, so why worry?

Lilith heard Kali speak her name softly. Lilith relaxed significantly, glad no one was here to fight. She always got more defencive if one of her sisters were around "Ahem," she paused "Pardond me for becoming more defencive." Lilith said with a flick of her long tail. Lilith shook her head "Course not we just weren't expecting anyone to be 'passing by'" She said. Lilith look toward her sister Kali then back to the other two stallions "Why would we be afraid of you?" she inquired.

"We wont" she replied strongly. Lilith had no goal but that didn't stop her from staying with and protecting her older sister. "Although I am glad you two do not have such prejudice towards us." Lilith took a step back to stand beside her sister. If he was blind he would want no pitty from them Lilith made no mention of it. She would treat him as though he was the same as a Nequus with sight.

"A pleasure to meet you both." she replied even though she didn't know the boned Nequus's name.

Kali, however, was not as smart as Lilith, and her eyes widened as she heard the other was blind.

"I'm afraid," she told him. "That your hindrance is harder to deal with than mine. For while my cross has created a horn, your mutation has given you nothing but ill. Never to see a sunset, or glimpse the beuaty of your lover's face, it is something I do not wish to have, whether people look up to it, or sourly upon it." She enjoyed her sight, it was what made her.

"But of course, you wouldn't know much of the crossbreed, as you have no vision to aid. Careful it doesn't make you bitter, life makes us far too bitter," her eyes flicked from the boned now, to rest on the white, and finally to Lilith.

"Its hard to say what violence is. I cannot mark it as good or ill." She herself would probably never raise a hoof, Lilith made sure of that. She didn't have fighting skills in any way, shape, or form, while her sister did, very much so. At least, Kali would like to think.

"Alas, though, it is strange to see so many Nequus in one place, certainly you all have something exciting to say?" Kali was searching now, for those little legends she so desired.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2007 6:48 pm

Gwydion twitched an ear as he heard Morthan say that he didn't want to start a fight. That pleased the Aeri slightly, but he was still uncomfortable with the fact that the other stallion could still attack at any moment if he wanted to.

Hearing the question from one of the mares, he turned his 'gaze' towards the two femmes as he pawed the ground with a hoof. "Many fear me for my eyes and my appearance. It seems like you aren't scared of me, miss. For that I am happy," he said to Lilith. He bobbed his head in respect, swishing his tail slightly as he did so. Hearing the pause in Morath's sentence, he then decided to say his name. "Gwydion."

He ignored the fact that Lilith and Morath didn't say anything about his slightless eyes, but he did turn his full attention on Kali as she did say something about it. He hated pity for his blind-ness. Shaking his head, he snorted loudly. "Don't pity me for who I have become. My mother was sightless, like I am, and she was able to live a full life before she died at an old age. I am likely to be like her-living a full life in the darkness. My blindness has been with me since I was born, but it wasn't as bad as it is right now. Despite this I have been able to move around wherever I please, doing whatever I want to do." He flicked his tail violently, causing it to whip into his hindlegs. "Bitterness is something I have grown to love.," he commented to Kali.

Sighing, he turned his head away from the three Nequus, as if he had lost interest in them. Scratching an itch on his back, he listened to the question Kali said before he answered her. "This is nothing compared to the D'ob. That place is filled to the brim with mares and stallions. If you ever want a mate that is a good place to go find one. Don't let the fact that you are a crossbreed worry you two too much. There is bound to be a stallion there who won't care if you are half Aeri and half Bae just as long as you act like yourself."

Morthan nodded his head to Lilith's last words. "Likewise you," he replied, wondering internally why the young mare even had to ask why she should fear the boned Nequus. Blank white eyes and carrying the very essence of death upon his back, the Aeri did not make for an especially comforting sight by anyone's standards. The other male was saying as much even now. Initial nervousness of such a creature was natural, maybe even sensible. After all, the blue-eye Reya pondered, they did not yet know where the bones had come from, let alone what had become of their former owner if they’d even had one.

Glancing over to the blue-maned stallion in question, the albino found himself wondering about this one too though not about the ivory that encrusted him. Why would anyone actually enjoy being embittered with the world? Perhaps, like being blind, it was something you grew used to if it was a base state for you. Perhaps you even became proud of it. The Reya cast his mind back to the last time that an acid mood had taken him. There was something of a pleasure to it, he supposed. Daring to say things that others wouldn't and pointing out things that others tried to ignore.

"I'm sure I have quite a collection of interesting things to say," Morthan said after a while, dragging himself from his ponderings and turning his pale gaze onto the purple-gold crossbreed. "What sort of thing would you like to hear?" he quizzed her with a faint smile. "I've lived about long enough to find something to say on almost any subject you'd care to name, Kali."
