Darkness whisped around the snow white body that trotted over the ground as if not touching it at all. Her ebony hooves left no marks and her mane and tail swished around her white fur softly as she moved. Death had been away from her family for a day or so because she'd had to be away. She'd left the three baskets in Khairi's charge, trusting that he'd protect his children with his life but that nothing would really happen to them.
After all, the grove where the three of them made their home was so secluded that it was rare even to see a squirrel. The only thing aside from the small Soquili family that lived there were birds. So of course Death trusted that everything would be fine.
The tiny mare had needed a couple of days to herself, just to breath and to stretch her large wings. Death was lucky enough to have a mate that understood this andwould be willing to let her go for a short while, though now she was slowly coming to admit that she had to go back. It was hard being away from him. ninja

Even in the darkest hours of night, the stars were out. Auriga meandered carefully, her head up and alert. She was enveloped in the darkness, save for the shine of the stars across her back and legs, and the shining silver of her eyes. She stopped for a moment, straining her eyes to see her surroundings. It was quiet, almost deathly quiet. She sighed softly and continued on her way, her mane billowing gently in the breeze.

A glow from across the way caught Death's sharp gray eyes and she turned towards it. The way it moved reminded her of Nostolgia... but it was far too low to be her ghostly friend. Rather... it looked like someone had glowing hooves.
Her white body flickered through the darkness, glowing from the icy touch of the moon as she danced from shadow to shadow. It was always better to be safe than sorry, at least in Death's book.
"Hello?" Her voice was so soft and ghostly that it was barely able to be heard above the sounds of nature itself. But there it was all the same, floating through the air towards the other that trotted only a few paces from her. ninja

Auriga froze in her tracks as she heard a whisper on the winds. A voice that at first inspired a chill down her spine, but then it calmed when Auriga made out the words that had been spoken. She spun around, looking for the source of this voice.
"Who's there?" Auriga called out, sounded much braver than she actually felt.

White started to glow as Death stepped completely into the moonlight, watching the other mare with a gentle smile. It was one of welcoming as if she were trying to ask for forgiveness yet at the same time she didn't really mind if she was or wasn't.
"Hello cousin of the stars. It's a pleasure." Death said, her voice whisping out once more from her soft muzzle. The mare before her was shockingly colored, shimmering with the light of stars even though it was also apparent that she was hardly born from them. Just as Death was hardly from the moon yet her fur shown softly.
"What brings you out on a night so dark? Or do your starry hooves lead you through the milky way often?" It was play using words, something that Death was often guilty of doing considering her penchant for language. ninja

Auriga breathed a sigh of relief, although it was quickly followed by a gasp of awe. The mare in front of her seemed to glow with the light of the moon.
"And good evening to you..." She retorted, inclining her head in greeting. "I guess you could say that, I find myself becoming more and more active when the sky resembles my coat... My name is Auriga..."

"Often what one resembles is what one loves, is it not?" Death said with a soft chuckle as she inclined her head in returned. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Auriga, you're quite the site to behold I must admit."
Her wings ruffled and her feathers soothed back down over her wings slowly, though there was one that stuck straight up enough that Death made a strange face and turned her neck to peer at it. Rare indeed was the time that Death's wings didn't lay smooth, in reality it was quite annoying. ninja

Auriga nodded in agreement at the first statement, but looked taken aback by the second statement. Every Soquili she had met so far had commented on how striking she was, yet she saw herself as plain... Her eyes suddenly fixed on the two feathered wings that framed the Soquili in front of her.
"You're a Wind Soquili..." Auriga whispered. It hadn't meant to be out loud, but there you have it.

Still a little preoccupied with the feather sticking out at an odd angle, Death flicked her gentle eyes towards Auriga once more before reaching out and ripping the feather right from her wing with a wince. Now at least it wouldn't be standing on end and hurting her even more, that was mostly what annoyed her now it was gone but for the slight pain.
Flickering her wings flat to her body once more, the mare turned and nodded her head softly.
"Ah, well yes. There's nothing too really impressive about them, there are many that have them after all." Death admitted, holding one of her wings out to show that it wasn't really as special as the wing of a flutter Soquili's. The pale little mare knew how plain she was, but everyone told her she was so pretty and she simply believed that it was because of these wings.
"Most wind soquili don't have markings that stunning however." She said with a ghostly chuckle. ninja

Auriga winced alongwith the ghost-like horse as she pulled her feather out before nodding slightly.
"True there are quite a lot of Wind Soquili, but I still find those wings lovely to look at..." She smiled slightly. "Beside you don't need impressive markings to be a beautiful Soquili... I never caught your name...?"

"Ah well, I rather like the earth Soquili truth be told. Even my mate is from the Earth." Death smiled softly as she felt a twang in her heart for the fact that she was still from him and her baskets.
An ear flicked over in the other's direction and inclined her head. "Oh I appologize, that's rude of me. My name is Death."
A light breeze hit Death's wings and the mare clamped them to her body, ignoring the feathers that ruffled up and released some of the heat she'd been keeping close to her. At least her wings, despite how awkward she found them when not in the air, were able to do a few things. ninja

Auriga smiled. "Death... that name suits you... Your mate is from the Earth? I don't have a mate yet... although, I know of someone I hope wants that place..." Auriga blushed slightly, glad of the darkness suddenly. She shivered a little a breeze swept around them and suddenyl wish she had warm wings like Death.
"So where were you heading so late at night...?"

"Thank you. I thought it did after that." Death said with a twinge of sadness tinting her voice before she let her soft gray eyes crinkle at Auriga's comment. "Never rush wha'ts meant to be, I'm sure that when you find him it'll be much worth it."
Watching the mare shiver, Death glanced around them and walked slightly closer to her, using her wings to brush away the wind.
"I'm heading.... home." ninja

Auriga tilted her head slightly, choosing not to press for a reason to Death's sad look moments ago. "And where is home? Or rather, who...?"

Laughter came from Death's gentle small muzzle and she hid her muzzle with a wing so as not to insult the other at laughing from her words. She did actually find it amuzing that Auriga would think it a 'someone'.
"It's a place and a person at the same time." Death said with a soft smile, nodding her ebony topped head gently. "His name is Khairi and the place is our little glade in the forest. I had left him and the baskets there while I took a fly." ninja
