First of all I know this is going to sound extremely bizarre and off the wall, but something happened last night. I was in bed trying to go to sleep, so I shut my eyes and suddenly I get this image of a figure with the head of a goat, and body of a man. (think Baphomet but not with the boobage.) So anyways I'm a little weirded out.
Then this figures tells me that it's the Holy Spirit of God.
Needless to say I get really weirded out. After all according to the common mainstream laws of Christianity, goats are supposed to be evil, and do evil things and not be trusted. So I'm laying there, wondering what's going on. I'm not terrified of this vision, actually comforted by it. Of course in the back of my mind I'm doubting the validity of this "spirit"
Then I decide to test it, and ask "Who's the true God?"
The reply, "You know that as well I do, child."
So I'm thinking 'Great...a smartaleck."
So I try again, "Who is God?"
Then I heard, "Jesus Christ is God."
So I felt relieved, but still a little weirded out. I mean isn't the Holy Spirit supposed to typically look like a dove or a flame? Can anyone give some insight as to what's going on, or am I just insane?

My first instinct was to say 'Somebody lied to you.' because some of the things I've run across can say prayers and admit that Jesus is the One True God and swear over a hundred stacks of Bibles they won't hurt you without killing themselves when really, they aren't so nice. I'd say be wary of said goat-man, see what happens and if he proves trustworthy- hey, it was just a weird manifestation. If not, well- banish the sucker with everything you've got.
Then again, people tend to see spirits in the forms they want to see them in too; maybe you were subconsciously thinking on demons or somesuch? Or it was a test... Sort of a "what would this one do, if..." Stranger things have happened...

Hmmm thanks for the input. Would there be any connection to the fact that I've never considered animals such as the goat or the wolf evil though?

There might be. I have a subconscious picture as the home of the Almighty Ones as a great temple that stretches into everlastingness. Once when I was laying around, I closed my eyes and found myself in said temple. Like a giant gothic cathedral. Part of me knew the name where I was, I call it "The House of the Highest Chair".

Like Terg said; alot of what we See when we close our eyes has to do with the subconscious mind. If you don't see wolves or goats as a threat, they might just become a representation of the Holy Spirit for you. Queerer things have happened...

From wiki about the bible: Quote: Goats are mentioned many times in the Bible. A goat was a considered a clean animal by Jewish dietary laws and was slaughtered for an honored guest. It was also acceptable for some kinds of sacrifices. On Yom Kippur, the festival of the Day of Atonement, two goats were chosen and lots were drawn for them. One was sacrificed and the other allowed to escape into the wilderness, symbolically carrying with it the sins of the community. From this comes the word "scapegoat". A leader or king was sometimes compared to a male goat leading the flock. In the New Testament Jesus likened true followers of himself to sheep and false followers to goats. Later in Christianity is when goats are considered 'evil" and what the devil looks like,(etc) based off the Greek God Pan. Because of the old 'pagan' ways, that are considered wrong Christianity demonizes old gods and ways. Another example is the trident and the devil, the trident is the weapon of Neptune, I'm sure there are other pagan examples. Long story short, no goats are not considered evil by God.I agree with you have to be cautious about spirits, because the lying ones will feed off your mind and tell you what you want to hear as well as see.

I think another problem too is the parallel in the Bible in which Jesus is to seperate the sheep from the goats. The sheep represent the Christians while the goats represent the wicked.
I guess you have a point about lying spirits feeding off your mind. Though I have a feeling if this one were lying it'd have taken on a more "beautiful attractive form."

I have a goat. It's not evil by any means. And when you say "separate the goats from the sheep" I'm not so sure that they're meaning so much that sheep are christians and that goats are wicked, just that goats are more stubborn, because they're both edible animals... that might be where you get your "stiff-necked" christian types...
Just a little input from the peanut gallery... sweatdrop

I really don't think goats are a symbol of evil, or evil themselves. However, I found the "evil" connection in the form of Azazel. You might of heard of them, he's one of the themes of Enoch, and in some cases it was he not Samael that seduced Eve. Something weird tho, his name is sometiems used to refer to hell. http://www.deliriumsrealm.com/delirium/articleview.asp?Post=100http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AzazelBut you know, there are many animal themed demons.( I.e. Lilith is said to have bird's feet, and associated with the Zu bird a type of bird of prey or most commonly translated as a type of eagle and look at Japanese lore for example.) as well as element theme. But does make that animal "evil" per se? Nope. Notice that the goats were often used in purification rituals. So they were very important, not too mention how vital goats are in the Middle East. After this, I believe I must refer to man's orginal fear of wild animals, things, and places. This is often used as a basis of explanation for monsters that appear athromorphic with animals and sometimes humans and demons. One other thing, I am a snake euthusiest. Commonly in Christianity as you well know, snakes are a symbol of evil and nothing else. But this does not support the bible at all believe that or not. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehushtan And in the bible you are said to be "as wise as a serpent", not too mention the snake tempting Eve, denoting it's power as a symbol of wisdom.

and speaking of the serpent there's also the story in the book of Numbers in which the people moan and complain at Moses about how much everything sucks. God gets angry and sends forth "Fiery Snakes" that wind up killing alot of people, or making them severely ill.
Finally they repent and beg Moses to talk to God. He does so, and guess what God tells Moses to do?
Place a Brazen Serpent on a poll, and announce that whoever looks upon the Serpent will be completely healed.
Yeah, so I suppose if the serpent is also used for good in the Bible then perhaps the goat would be as well.
There was something else interesting also. The figure of Baphomet was first intended as an idea, a force that was "Absorption into Wisdom" and Wisdom being one of the many personifications of the Holy Spirit. (often Wisdom is referred to as female.) However it was Elis that decided to draw Baphomet as the goat being, and then altered it so it would be evil.
Gotta love mankind.

eek Oh I was watching a show on religion ANgels and demons, and I saw this medieval painting of Jesus. It looked and he even had the same expression on his face, and pose as baphomet!
Unfortunaley I have found no recent nor good scholarship on this connection. But it's worth looking into.
On another note, remember in SH the god was intended originally 'son of God", if this is true, than the designers must of noted the similarities in depictions of Jesus and Baphomet! eek
