Since reuniting with mother, Kimya'ukilia's health was on the rise again. She had Kinja who was more than willing to look after her granddaughter, leaving Kimya free to hunt for the three of them, a much easier feat now that she didn't need worry about her daughter's safety while she was absent.
She'd set out early that morning, hoping that she might catch prey beast while they were tired and there was little competition for food, since, after all, most would still be sleeping at this time of day.
It didn't take her long to catch the scent of a sleeping herd of antelope... Small beasts, but the most she could hope to take down on her own, and since Imara only fed on milk still it would be more than enough for Kinja and herself.
The lioness gained a rare predatory stealth, easily slipping into the tanned grasses, blending in as she stalked in search of the ideal victim. Which one would it be...?

Kiamba had been stalking the lands just outside the Pridelands for quite awhile now. His memories of his obsession with his Goddess had haunted him for such a long time and still do at occasions but he had made great progress in getting over his past. To say he wasn't completely healed would be true. The large male had not taken to any females since leaving his pride lands and actually avoided them when he could for fear of his heart being stolen again. He knew he wouldn't survive another heartbreak.
The morning had come with much promise as the scent of aqntelope reached his senses. With nothing else to do and a stomach rumbling for food, Roho had gone in search of the herd that must have past by him during his slumber. Having started his hunt just before dawn it was a sight to see the morning sun rise as a rather large herd of antelope were sillhouetted in the distance. Walking casually towards him he didn't bother lowering his bulking form until he reached high grass. The grass eater's ears flicked in the direction he had been before dissapearing among the foliage but nothing else perturbed the antelope as they lowered their heads to graze again.
Hunting had never been his specialty. He just never could grasp the technique like his mother but he tried and came out successful enough to keep himself from dieing of hunger. As he crouched before the herd, olive eyes gazed around looking for the perfect prey. It looked lik luck was on his side for a young fawn had been born a scant few hours ago during the night and was still wobbly upon its legs. Locking his eyes on the tiny creature, Kiamba worked to position himself but Ledy Luck liked to play games.
An antelope caught sight of his bulking form among the yellowing grass and bounded off which alerted the others. Cursing, the male lept from his hiding spot and charged across the ground towards his prey. Despite the head way the antelope had of his approach the little antelope was unable to keep up. Knocking the creature to the ground Kiamba grabbed hold of it's neck and waited for the struggling creature to die.

Kimya was equally unaware of the second predator, just as her prey. Her searching continued, however, for while she'd spotted the fawn, she couldn't bring herself to try killing it. She wasn't so desperate for food that she'd hunt one only just a few weeks younger than her own child. She had a bleeding heart, but so long as she got her task done it didn't really matter to her what level of challenge her kill brought.
She took another cautious step forward, but her ears twitched abruptly. Oh no, something must've spooked the herd! Damn!
She looked up, just in time to see them galloping away, blowing past her from where she had been approaching their escape-path... all but the young antelope too small to keep up, and for a moment she was horror struck as a hulking figure overcame the fawn. Her fangs grit together, but she saw another chance, and she couldn't afford to risk it, who knew how long it would take her to track down another herd?
Her empathy forgotten for a moment, Kimya burst forth from the grass with a growl, charging head on for the mother that lingered unsure if she could help her young or not. It was a fatal mistake, for the second, female, hunter had been waiting when the mother finally made up her mind.
With a startled shrill the mother antelope also went down in a flash of brown, black, tan, and claws. Kimya's jaws clamped down over it's muzzle to suffocate it into stillness, staring over at the male with his smaller prize while she pinned the struggling beast under her weight.
In some ways, it was ironic... ways that she couldn't understand or fortell.

Kiamba hadn't noticed the other female, not until she voiced a growl which caused the male to look upwards to the flailing antelope. By this point, his tiny prey had ceased all movement, having died within his locked jaws. At the sight of the larger antelope, Roho licked his maw but made no attempt to approach the female in an attempt to steal away her dinner. She had earned the kill and it wasn't like he had nothing. The little antelope at his paws would certainly be enough for just himself for the day.
As he stared at the female, Kiamba made not point to open his maw to say or word or make any advancement. No, the bulking male had issues with females. Damn them all in his mind. They were nothing but heartbreakers and he wasn't sure if he could take another heartbreak so he distanced himself from them all.
With a weary eye on the female, Roho lowered his body among the grass and slowly began to rip into the carcass. With a stomach as empty as his, with a kill in front of him he could wait little time before digging in.

Kimya continued pinning her kill until it's movements too eventually stopped, and only then did her great jaws loosen their hold, pulling away to let the head of the beast fall to her paws as well.
Now that the rush of the hunt began to fade away, she looked from her fallen prey to his, and realized that perhaps it wasn't fair. She owed him some thanks for holding the mother up long enough for Kimya to attack, even if it hadn't been intentional.
She settled it down, pinned it, and began seemingly eating as well, carving out a leg.
She was cautious in taking the appendage in her jaws, in carrying it over closer to the male, quietly setting it down not too far from him but close enough that no scavenger would manage to sneak up on him to steal it away.
Once it was deposited, Kimya lowered her head and backed away, making momentary eye contact so that she could say in a soft spoken voice: "Thank you,"
Before returning to her own kill to truely begin to eat. She was quite starved herself, having gone for so long with meals so far between. Her appetite was still there, her figure slowly returning from the thin frame of a true rogues to that of the more lean huntress. The rows lining her underbelly made it clear that she had young ones to feed as well, which must surely have been the reason she was bold enough to chance hunting so close to a male she didn't know, let alone stopping to eat closeby.

Kiamba looked up as the female approached. Olive eyes watched her carefully as she approached with the limb of the mother antelope in her jaw. He watched as she neared and dropped the leg before backing away. Was she afraid he would attack her? Hardly. He woul dnever do such a thing, but then again, she didn't know that and even with lack of food, Roho wasn't a small lion.
HE studied her as she walked away. An obviou mother who was needing nourishment for her young. That antelope would last her two days if she could fend it off from other predators but that was unlikely. So, not moving from his position over the young antelope, he spoke. "There's no need to thank me. I didn't even realize you were here. You will need more food than me with young ones at your heels."

"Oh... no, it's alright. My daughter's an only child, it's just she, my mother and I." Kimya answered quietly in a small lapse of bites.

Roho looked at the female and then the leg which had been present to him. The tiny gazelle he had would not be enough to fill his large stomach and the leg would add a bit more meat to his dinner for the day. So he nodded his head after she spoke. "Three lionesses living alone out here. Not the safest of things to do especially with a cub."

Oh, but if he just knew that she'd already learned that lesson the hard way in more ways than one...
Kimya rumbled softly in agreement.
"True... but this rogue life is all that I've ever known. I don't think that I would get along very well with others even if we did have a pride to call home... I'd hoped to find my brothers, but so far I haven't had such luck. But then, my mother managed to make due with the three of us just fine in the past, I suppose we've been fortunate until now."

Having a pride to take care of cubs makes life much more simple." Kimeti spoke out of expereince...well...somewhat. True, he never had cubs of his own but he knew his parents much liked having babysitters for him and his brothers. It meant that hunting was much more efficent.
"Being a rogue can be enjoyable but living with a pride has many benefits that outweight living alone." Not that Kimeti was a part of a pride though.

"Yes... I suppose you're right about that..."
~My family has always lived as rogues, so I never thought of Pride life as a necessity since I wasn't planning on parenthood.~
"What about you? You sound like you speak from experience. Are you from a pride near here...?" She did know of several in the area surrounding her home. The Pridelands themselves in fact, were their neighbors when Kimya was just growing up.
