Shore yawned and stretched, rolling over onto his other side and blinking twice. The sun's rays struck his purple fur through the trees, warming his body through and through. There was still the previous nights meal in his belly, and next to him, a rather beautiful young female.

Red in the coat, and cold in the heart. She condradicted herself. He smacked his lips together, smiling slightly at the sight of her. He'd spent the whole night at her side, and she'd be glad to know that he hadn't even once touched her. Of course, she would probably rip him to shreds had that been the case.

He shoved his cold nose into her rough back, grimacing at the sight of those sunken ribs. He quickly rose to his feet and backed up a few paces in case she decided to be a grump about him waking her, and he proceeded to stretch.

Shore was very maticulous about it all, making sure each muscle got its proper movement. He couldn't risk injuring himself in case he needed to flee quickly from the snapping jaws of an angry Dakolin or Iriana. They were such testy fellows.

He watched the red carefully, interest lying on his perked ears.

User Image Kara flinched and growled as she felt the coldness strike her back, it sent her into a shock. She could hear the crashing of the water around her ears, pounding into her skull. The sting of water as it rushed into her lungs, the harsh scream towards Ran, and the horrid thoughts that lay there.

Her mind weaved a percious dream that was halfway between sleep and wake, it kept some things real, but most completely distorted.

She could feel the presence of Ran, right over her shoulder.

'Kara,' it said, and she growled, the dreaming mixing and weaving, and causing anger to form in her throat. 'Kaho hasn't said anything.'

In her dream she lashed out, 'Back off, Ran! Go away!' But still the dream creature persisted, and she could feel the blood curdle in her throat as she lunged, shaking the dream Ran. She wanted it dead, gone, never to be seen again.

Her subconscious screamed.

"Ran!" the red awoke with a start, horror lining her face, eyes searching frantically for anything and everything to save her from what she'd done. Yet, even as she blinked, the blood began to drain from her muzzle, and her ears were no longer pinned.

She turned to find a certain purple wolf staring at her. Her body shuddered with fear and all she wanted to do was run, but she couldn't quite make her legs move. Kara managed to get up, make a few stumbles, and land at Shore's feet.

Shore looked perplexed as Kara screamed out a name.

Ran? Who was Ran? Why did it sound like someone was running? Did she mean run? Because that's what she was doing. Shore furrowed his brow farther and went to step in front of the fleeing red. It wouldn't have much mattered anyway, she fell right back down again. Strange creature, that.

"Ran your lover?" he asked her, that cocky grin coming back.

Clearly he didn't feel she needed sympathy. It was mental anguish, probably a bad dream. Why not qualm it with a bit of laugther?

Kara looked about ready to rip his throat out. She rose to her feet, her menacing size staring down at the wolf that was wisecracking his way to a bitter end.

"No," she spat, her ears pinning back to her skull. But she was still too shooken to give much more of a retort. A deep sigh escaped her body, working its way down her spine. Her muscles shuddered, and she gritted her teeth as she fought the urge to throw up. What on earth was she doing.

"Ran's a she." She told him simply, thinking that this would solve the situation.

Tired of standing, and a bit light headed from the sudden rise, she settled back onto her haunches.

She only wished Ran was. . .

No, don't say it Kara. You don't actually think thoughts like that. You are a nice normal wolf. And you won't kill Ran either.

So why did you join the Arcane Circle? (Or attempt to anyway) - her conscious mind pestered.

The purple wolf was perfectly content to watch for a time, as Kara very shortly answered his questions. He expected a bit more of a response, but no matter. He never seemed to get the exact responses he wanted. As well as he thought he understood people, they always seemed to escape him in one way or another. What was with that?

People needed to smile more.

"Hah!" the laughter of Shore rolled out. He had her trapped between a rock and a hard place. "So you had a bad dream about your wanna be Ran?" He cocked an eyebrow at her, and made a circle around her sitting figure.

"What was it like, eh?" He crouched down onto his stomach and crawled his way a little bit further so he could look up at her chin. "You feel like telling an old twisted man like me?"

Kara went from angry to horrified, staring at them as though he had pierced her heart. She choked and couldn't quite find a response to his question. Her mind distorted what he said, when he had meant something completely different.

"Its not okay to have thoughts like that! Don't you dare approve of it! She has kids!" Kara tried to defend, her eyes trying to be angry, but clearly lacking motive.

"Shutup!" she snapped, and turned her body to walk the other direction, tail tucked low between her body like she once recalled doing as a young pup.

Thoughts of Kiros flashed before her mind. She had to go back to that life eventually. But how could she now?

Shore wasn't about to give up just yet. She'd admitted to these 'bad' thoughts. A mind which Shore would most definately love to get inside. It was an intriguing prospect, he wanted to hear all of it.

Leaping up to his feet, he chased after her, coming up just beside her shoulder and cocking a wry grin.

"There's nothing wrong with it, you know." He paused, and closed his eyes for a short moment. "In fact," he continued, putting on another burst of speed to catch up to the fleeing figure. "Many would find it rather. . . " He didn't finish his sentence, but instead kept pace with her body, its fluid motion keeping rythym to his speeding heart beat.

"What kind of dream was it?" he guessed, his question softer than the words before it. Seriousness, if you could call it that.

Kara wanted to be angry with him, she really did. She let that adrenaline slide through her tendons to the tip of her paws, making her pace increase. The ground would shake with every step. Those long, gangly limbs would move to the beat of the earth. Kara would be lost in her head, and days would drift into a forever where there was no one to ruin her soul.

"What do you mean?" she asked him, the anger fading away as rationality reclaimed her senses.

It had been a bad dream. But how to tell him? Shore wasn't just someone you gave your heart to. Okay, so he may have been, but it certainly couldn't be a very wise thing to do. But then again, what did she have to lose?

"I killed her, in the dream, I hurt her. Hurt Ran." She spoke the worlds softly, the air from the whisper felt cool against her tongue. Her ears swiveled uncomfortably on her head and she suddenly felt very aware of where she was, and it wasn't a comfortable situation. "I love her, and I hurt her."

Shore's grin had faded to the dusk now. His tail swayed only with the gentle push of the wind and nothing more. A certain ache hit his heart as he watched the turmoil fold in the world near him. He hated it when people dwelled on things. He'd broken to many hearts, and it was so hard to mend them. Like livers, every one of them.

"Love is love. We can't change that. It takes the strongest of will to keep it stored away, and sometimes, having a strong will is a fool's prospect." He looked at her intently, as though he expected something of her.

"Have you told her?"

He had nothing to say to the hurt of the dream. He was not shaman, sear, nor empath. He could not decipher the feelings of any, only take what little hints they gave him. If she wanted her spirit read, she needed someone that was not him.

No one had said that before. Perhaps because she'd never told. Kaho had told her, 'I wouldn't', but what had that meant? Shore didn't exactly give her the answers, but he didn't keep them from her either. Shore, as far as she could tell, could not read her mind.

There was nothing to say to him, so she simply nodded.

"I told her to ask Kaho," she told him, stopping her walk to look at him carefully. What did this Shore want from her?

"But I couldn't tell her. Ever." It was the truth. "And I can never see her again, I'll hurt her." Even now the anger was building up. When she thought of the pup, it was as if Ran had robbed something from her, even though, she too, had only been following her heart.

This was all very troublesome. There was nothing that Shore could do. He wasn't good in woman to woman issues, if you could call it that.

"No Kara," he told her sternly, leaning forwards to try and stare her into the eyes. He wasn't sure if it would work, but his eyes always seemed to have some sort of power over another. "You need to tell her yourself." He didn't know Ran, but from what he had gotten from the red, she was taken by another.

"She won't hate you for it. She will hate your for abandonning her. If you love her, so be it. But you also find her a friend, and no matter what, love isn't something to risk your friendship for. You go, you tell her, and don't you dare apologize for having such thoughts, they are perfectly natural." He was getting his heat on now.

"You tell her that your happy for her. You won't hurt her if you know she understands. I don't know Ran, but I know you, Kara, and your too headstrong and dark-willed. The world isn't going to come crashing down on your shoulders. Stop trying to have an escape. Ran loves you too, not in the way you think, but its a better love. Be happy. Go now, tell her. I don't want to see your face until you've conquered your fears." He stepped back, and settled onto his haunches, glaring her down.

Kara stared, unable to decided what to say back. What was he saying. Was he crazy? That had to be it, he was out of his mind.

Yet, as he continued to talk, she knew it was right. She'd vowed to never seen Ran again, and if she wasn't going to see her again, what was the big deal of telling her. If Ran hated her for it, would it change the situation from what it was now. No, probably not. Instead she'd left Ran to try and figure it out from Kaho. That damn seer wouldn't tell Ran anything, because he was a freak, and a cold hearted jerk.

Without another word she turned and ran away from Shore. She wouldn't be running long, of course, but it made her feel strong and powerful. There was at least some muscle still on her bones.
