A quite stickout in this lifeless scenery, wasn't he? She probably was too. Green eyes looked around the bones warily as the young male moved about, and every time he thought he saw a flutter of movement he'd just, sometimes being his own shadow reflecting over the bones.
But he remembered her, and he had to find her now. His injured ear had jusst a while ago stopped bleeding, though now his ear was with a river of dry blood, wich got rather itchy. But as for the reason to him being here; he was worried. She lived in here with those.. monsters that tried to attack his sister! Well, sure. It was just one. But what if all of them where like this? What if she was in danger? He remembered her quite well, and what if they weren't nice? Maybe some where, he could think, but.. what if they weren't?

A sickly glow seemed to envelope the petite wild dog as she seemed to walk through the graveyard; no, not the graveyard, she decided. Fog rose all around her, blending with the grey skies of the shallow land. The air was thick and heavy, without a single scent riding it but the strong stench of blood. This was a dream.
She padded warily through this strange land, feeling the red fur on the back of her neck rise. Was this an omen? Suddenly, her paws felt unusally heavy, and she stopped to gasp for air. In front of her, a golden red puppy sat staring at her, it's eyes full of wisdom.
"Wh-who are you?", she stammered. "Are you me?" Indeed, it seemed to be a younger version of herself. Then, it faded into the growing darkness, where she could see the silhouettes of other shapes quite similar, their green eyes disappearing into the fog.
------
Kelello woke with a start. She jumped quickly to paws, taking a few steps back to gain her balance. Bewildered, she stared blankly at the sky as if she expected scarlet clouds of fog to blank out the moon.
What do the gods want from me? She thought, letting a low whine escape her. "Why have you given me these dreams?," she whispered.
The sound of pawsteps in the distance pushed the young adolescent back into reality. She tensed, wondering if a hyena was spying on her. Surely they hadn't come this far out, where she had decided to rest? But then a familiar scent drifted towards her; it was Kutu! Kelello glanced nervously from side to side, then slunk in the direction of her friend.
"Kutu!", she whispered, coming up from behind him. "What're you doing here?"

Well, to put it short, he jumped, and almost ran. But the young wild dog spun around and relaxed emmediatly at the sight of Kellelo, but he relaxed too quickly, and lost footing, flopping on his belly, but grinning at her.
"Kello! " He yipped, but then frowned remembering what he was here for. She looked alright, perhaps scrawny. Maybe they were starving her! "I came ta fin' you! " He said, pulling onto his paws again, sitting up and looking at her, tail wagging slightly. "Kello, you.. um.. live with them 'yenas, rite? " He was trying to make this seem casual, but she might notice so much that his ear was looking reddish, and a nick was missing.

Kelello giggled at his clumsiness, but then a shadow of seriousness blanketed her face.
"Kutu," she acknowledged, dipping her head respectfully. "You came to find me?," she repeated, question filling her green eyes. "Why?"
She glanced nervously around, sinking lower and lower to the ground in preparation of being discovered. The horrible things that would happen if she was found speaking with Kutu were unimaginable. She knew now that she would never be a hyena's equal, no matter how hard she strived for it, but if she was caught she'd be much farther from what little hospitality that was rarely offered to her.
She could read in her old friend's eyes his worry; but she couldn't understand why. He had visited her times before, and never had he carried such a worried scent upon his pelt.
"Yes," she paused, "I live with the hyenas."
She brushed her fur quickly against his, her eyes full of affection that she was uncertain he could see. Oftentimes she couldn't understand Kutu.

The young maale blinked at her, looking around and remembering there were hyenas here again, so he pulled himself down aswell. " Kello I-- " He blinked his green eyes as she brushed against him, and burried his nose into her fur, comforting himself with the female's scent.
But then she pulled away, and he again forced himself to remember what he'd come here for. "Kello, look. " He pulled further away from her, flicking her injure dear a few times to get her attention. "It was them. One of them, anyways. It-- she came and.. " He shook his head. "Tried to kill my sister. " He frowned at her, curling his tail around a paw, ears flattened.

Kelello stared at Kutu with awe.
"A hyena did that to you?," she whispered, her eyes falling on the injured ear. She hadn't noticed it until now, and flinched at its redness. For a moment, she thought back to her dream, and her eyes seemed lifeless. Then, she briskly nodded her head and leaned over to wash the injured ear with a few gentle licks.
A look of concern shadowed her face. "Who did this? What did the hyena look like?" She kept her face close to his, breathing in his sweet scent.
After a long moment, she narrowed her eyes. "Then why are you here? You have to leave, for your own sake." She jerked her head desperately, motioning for him to go.

Hee nodded quietly, looking down to his paws. " Did worse with my da. " He shrugged his shoulders; all he'd gotten was a bit shaken, and his father had been really hurt with the leg! And his tail hadn't looked great.
" She was black. And white. and stripey. " He closed his eyes, rmembering the event almost like a nightmare, and was relieved to open them to the sight of the female instead of a hyena. He was gratefull for her care with his ear, but she pulled away, and he almost felt like clinging to her.
"I was worries! Cause whhat if you dun knnow all of em? What if some of them gonna hurt you? " He whined, though her motioning forced him to look around, wary. He looked back at her again. "Whaa if they did summin to you? "

Kelello nuzzled her friend, a shudder running down her body. She felt terrible for Kutu, but worse, she recognized the description he offered; it was one of the fellow Graveyard hyenas.
"Why?," she asked, although instead of locking eyes with Kutu, they rose to look pleadingly up at the sky.
Although she wouldn't hold it against a hyena for acting cruelly towards lowers beings such as herself, she couldn't see what Kutu's family had done to deserve such harsh consequences as the attempt of killing a daughter. Her eyes clouded with pain. Did they trespass? .. like Kutu is doing now?
"I know most of them," she responded, trying to keep the fear out of her tone, "and they wouldn't hurt me." Kelello's eyes reflected her uncertainty. She flinched; lying was not easy for her, but she couldn't risk having Kutu worry and return for her again. He was in more danger than she, even now.

He winced, he didn't have anything to say now. He had said all he knew, but he just.. couldn't think of aanything. He swished his tail, raising dust and cracking small bones together, raising the scent of death of the graveyard. He sa this place everyday, but it'd never looked so terrifying.
"Kello.. " He whined quietly, as if he were actually going to say something, but he was blank. All he could do was bury his nose into the female's fur, pulling away when he noticed how thin she was. Was this bad? What if there was something wrong? But more importantly.. why did he worry so much?
" I just dun wann anythin to happen to you. "

The worries in her mind seemed to wash away once she felt the cold touch of Kutu's nose as it pressed into her fur. She rubbed her head against his cheek, suddenly feeling warm against the cold wind that clattered through the bones scattered about the graveyard.
"Kutu," she whispered in return, "I will be fine."
She turned her eyes to face him, trying to look as serious as possible. She noticed his gaze slip over her slender frame, and the worry that reflected in them. This was one of the things that puzzled her about Kutu; he always seemed to wince at what was normal for her. Sometimes, when alone to think, she would wonder what could be so different for him that she was missing?
"You need to stop coming here," she muttered. "We're not pups anymore. We both know what danger awaits you when you come here."
Her eyes shadowed with grief and passion. A new feeling was overcoming her, and it was all too foreign to her. Hyenas had pups together every so often, but never had she seen affection between the mated pairs. How could she recognize 'love'?

He sighed. In his own worry, he couldn't notice she was trying her best to seem serious. But when she talked about him not comming here, he blinked, and almost wailed, but he stopped himself due to a storm in his mind; why was this so sad? Why didn't he want to leave her?
"I.. I can outrun them! " He whined. "They're big and bulky, r-right? Well, what.. what if i could outrun them? Then it'd be okay, right? " He whined quietly to himself, trying t convince that he could handle comming here and visiting Kelello. "Or we could meet somewhere! " He frowned, looking up at her hopefully, though the likeness of them being able to see eachother would probably grow dimmer and dimmer.

Kelello looked sadly at Kutu for a long moment. "You know why," she whispered. "You could probably outrun them," she said, pausing. She had wanted to avoid using this excuse, but Kutu had dragged her into it. He resisted her pleas to leave. What else was there to do, but expose the raw truth of the matter?
She heaved a sigh, and reluctantly began, "But what happens to me when you've outrun them? I have a place here, one that I have worked for all my life. I can't just run like you can; I have to face my misdeeds."
She brushed her muzzle against his, hoping he would understand. She longed for him to be with her always, but the sad truth was that they crossed two very different paths; that of a prince, and that of a slave.

The young male whined to himself, pressing his body against the female, trying to ignore how thin she was. But he just couldn't not worry about her. "But.. do you have to stay? " He frowned. "Orr I could stay with you. And then we wouldn't have to be away. "
And though now he felt horrible, afraid and upset, the young male was comforted by her presence, and he was doing his best to calm down, to think rationally, but as much as he tried to think of a way out, there was none. He couldn't think of a way they could be together, and it just hurt too much to admit, there was none.

"Yes," she answered sadly. "I have no where else to go. Please, try to understand, Kutu. I don't know how to survive in the rest of the world - the graveyard is all I've ever known."
She pulled her gaze away, feeling such sadness well up within her that she couldn't look at him. "If you stayed with me, here in the graveyard, you would be made a slave. You mustn't do that to yourself; you are a prince. Our paths are not meant to cross."
Kelello swayed unsteadily, then slowly lowered herself to the ground. She felt like more than just her legs were collapsing, but her entire little body. She gazed wildly past Kutu, looking out at something unseen to the normal eye; indeed, it was a scarlet fog slowly rising in the distance, preserved by her own mind. Was the sign about Kutu?
"You have to leave, Kutu," her eyes slowly meeting his, powerful and sincere, "because I love you."

He closed his eyes, but opened them when she moved and talked, looking at her sadly. His tail was low, between his legs. He was speechless, all he could do was look at her little form, trying to keep himself content with being with her right now, but him being here just made him feel worse, knowing that they couldn't be together much longer.
And though he was glad to hear she loved him, the blow was more painfull that joyfull, and he lowered himself as well. "I love you too, Kello.. " He whispered, brushing his head against her shoulder, as if trying to cling to her. "I don't wanna lose you. "
