Bending the business card between forefinger and thumb, Shelby hung up the phone and stepped away from the phone booth in one smooth motion before the one waiting behind him could react. He glanced through the windows of the restaurant as he walked past. Inside and on his way up to the bar was a blur of motion and bodies, the stool and what he ordered of no consequence. He wanted to be in a public place right now...

Punctuality was not necessarily advantageous in all situations. His student, however, had done absolutely nothing deserving of a long wait, and thus Ramon arrived with all due haste. With an almost slow, casual approach he took a neighboring seat at the bar, not bothering to order just yet. In a restaurant his own inclination would've been towards back tables, where conversation could be conducted in proper privacy. That Shelby seemed to desire something so keenly that he would go out of his way to arrange an unscheduled meeting but that simultaneously it was not something that necessitated confidentiality.... this was turning into something of a puzzle for Ramon.
Cordialities were a pleasant thing, perhaps, but in light of the fact that there was undoubtedly a problem and that the problem was their focus... they were superfluous. "Something's troubling you, I take it," he began after a moment of reserved observation, having attempted to glean the nature of his student's disturbance by sight alone, and ultimately... failed.
