i was on a message board where someone said latina is close to being black
i asked why and someone replied:
Quote:
both are referred to people of color
both come in light and dark tones
therefore, african americans and hispanics are tip for tap
THATS how its close to black

do yall think that just because we are colored means were both alike
this bothers me , maybe im taking it wrong
what you think?

I don't think you're taking it "wrong," but in my opinion, your are taking it way harder than you should be. neutral

Some of the things stated are true: black and latino people are referred to as "people of color," and we do come in light and dark skintones. I'm surprised they didn't say something like, "They both steal cars." xd For some reason, insults and derogatory statements like that are rampant on message boards lately whenever minorities are even mentioned. rolleyes confused This quote, however, didn't go into stereotypes or anything, which is good for once.

Anyway, back to the point. xd

Black and latino people are both "people of color," but each individual person is still different from every other individual. 3nodding The things they stated as being similarities are true for most people of color. Hence the phrase..."people of color." (Is anyone tired of reading that yet? xD )

To sum it up, they were stating the obvious and there's no need to get offended.

i think blacks and latinos are different. it's not just about skin tone, it's about your culture too. even tho they have the same culture, 'black latinos' are treated differently than lighter skinned latinos. and if you were to go up to a latino person [regardless of skin color] and say 'you're just like a black person', i'm sure you'd get an evil look or maybe even cussed out. they know there's a difference between us....
