2007 Guild Renovations

Hi, folks! Thanks for dropping in! whee

After a super successful 2005 and 2006 here at Break Free, I think it's time to kick things up another notch and take the guild to even greater heights.

Now-- I don't mean change the format of the guild. It is, and always will be, a Queen guild. 3nodding But I do think it's time to do a bit of house work around here. Cleaning up the forums, pruning topics, adding and altering graphics, organizing, etc. We're a great guild, arguably one of the most friendly, well-run and unified out there, but I want to make sure we stay that way by keeping fresh and tidy. (Sorry-- I'm a perfectionist at heart. XD )

Game Plan

Some of the primary things I'd like to achieve are as follows:

-Change front page text. (For the love of God, why is that crap I wrote still there? XD Someone change it!)
- Delete old/dead threads in the main forum.
- Rejuvenate popular threads that died off.
- Move older announcements into a (new) subforum.
- Create a resource subforum for all our handy-dandy resource threads.
- Possibly instate member-friendly incentives... which are in the process of being developed right now. ninja xd
- Hold monthly events and contests to keep things interesting during the quieter days of the week.
- Weekly/Monthly discussion topics of interest.

Obviously, some things are more important than others, and I'm sure everyone reading this message would like to have their say on the matter.

On that note, I considered putting this topic in the Staff forum, but I wanted everyone to be involved, so please-- I beg of you, post here and let the entire guild know what you like, dislike, would like to see, and would not like to see. biggrin

Also, crew members in particular, if there's anything you'd like to do specifically, please let me know. For instance, I volunteer to fund and organize a new subforum for older announcements. (Such as Fairy's promotion topic, etc. Basically, threads I can't bear to get rid of. XD )

Well, on the subject of gold, my trading pass is apparently locked ( stressed ) so I had to tap into the gold funds. I'll contribute what I owe for that subforum just as soon as I can. whee

Anyways, as for contests and stuff... I dunno... Maybe we could have awards for like, most active user or most posts or something... xd

Well said, as I was feeling huffy when I wrote that. xd Anyways, I completely agree. The tone is all wrong and it needs dire fixing. I'll start work on that right after this. I'm going to try to be friendly but firm, if that's alright. Fairy, you now have the undertaking of giving my new writing the final review. 3nodding

In regards to the mini-bio on the main page, is anyone here interested in having a sort of history thread? I think we have a pretty good back story. xd Lots of unity and creativity and rebellion and what not. cool



I'm working on that as well. whee I've actually already started moving some threads to their appropriate homes, but the Housing topic and the like can just go. xd I need to get in touch with Memai about the writing thread that bombed so that she can collect her work if she doesn't already have it saved-- but that's going as well. Hopefully it can be resurrected in a different form one day. 3nodding



Hmm... I've been thinking about this, and I have to say, I disagree with you on this matter. I really actually dislike the Lyrics thread, and would happily see it go in favor of individual song topics. I just think it's a bit... lacking. We have a better time it seems when people bring up a specific point about a specific song in a specific thread. (Of course, I really hate it when people are like, "wHo leiks ths soung? i do.!" xd Discussion is good, polls without points are bad. wink

In regards to the PM the staff thing, that was based off of another forum I used to post at where they had a lot of topics that would suddenly, and annoyingly, spring forth after being dead for many months. But, seeing as this is not a problem nor a vast annoyance here, I think that part of the rules can be removed. smile

Fairy, I'm seeing plugs all around the Internet period. xd Gaia, QOL, QZ, Q/-- anywhere we can get our foot in the door. In fact, I'll personally petition at Q/ and try to round up as many folks as I can. 3nodding

As for Gaia advertising, here's an idea; as part of our member-friendly rewards system, why not start an advertising thread and reward users who make a good effort to keep it from dying off? Like, give recognition to those who stuck it out and posted a few times in the thread to keep it from dying? Also-- polls and maybe a game in the thread would be nice. I'm just scared it's going to die off and not do anything... I dunno. I have faith in you-- you'll do us proud if I send you out into the vastness of Gaia. whee

A history thread could be amusing and interesting. How it all came to be, how it evolved, changes that happened over the past year and a half that it's been open, etc. Rebellion... like France against King Louis? whee

The writing thread... yeah, I hope it can be ressurected one day.

Hm... How about making a subforum for discussion of songs? There's certainly a lot of songs in their catalogue. And I see your point about the Lyrics thread. It is pretty lacking (not to mention dead).

I don't have a game plan right now, but I will get working on it with the help of Memai, Mike, and you. Did you send out PMs to the members? I really wish they'd give some input.

All right.. I fixed the vacant subforum up into a GD. That's done.

Plugs all around the internet? Awesome. I don't go onto QZ of QOL at all.. and I'm a lurker at Q/. I suppose I could handle Gaia easier than any of the others. -pokes Memai in regards to QZ/QOL...-

Advertising thread is a good idea. Rewards seems like a key part in these member-friendly ideas. People like to be rewarded for "doing good". I think starting a thread and having members post in there would be a great idea. Give them a chance to meet some new people and get rewards while doing so. I don't want to be the only one posting in the advertising thread, though. That'd look pretty bad. We'd have to recruit some of our members to help. And I hope they will.

EDIT 2: I was looking around in there... and apparently, you can "recruit" members. Not advertise.. but "recruit".

Oooh~ diagrams. That'd be awesome. And yes, reminding them that we're a free guild would be pretty good. We make them sweat enough with a test that doesn't normally count much. >>;
