When do you draw the line, if you do, when critisicing an art? Yes of course the effectiveness and practicallity always comes into play, but is there a time where you just want to lay off and take a step back where you repect something about an art? If so, state examples. We get so worked up about cons, and I want to see if anyone ever jsut went "Blah blah blah blah bash bash bash. But, Blah is just part of the art and its history and customs." Yes, I am leaning towards traditional arts here.

This sprung something in my mind from talking to a guy after class where he was bashing our art. Which I found completely stupid because I've always seen and he's been proven to be the less talented of the adults in the class, and that he still takes an art that he's not very good at that he claims is "99% not effective". I dont know, it just struck me as arrogant.

As ya'all probly know, I do TKD and it does get bashed a fair ammount. But I can accept this because it does have a lot of weaknesses. What really pisses me off is when you get some no nothing little ******** who's been doing karate for a few months turn around and say to me 'TKD is crap, I can beat your arse, blah blah blah'. So I think it depends on the person doing the knocking, I respect the opinion of most of the people in this guild for example, but any ******** that a) is s**t at MA, or b) has only been doin MA for ******** all time is gona get a slap if they say anything

Although one could argue that an art has it's weaknesses, so does every other martial art on the planet. I'm not a fan of TKD, but if someone knew it well enough, experience alone would probably mean me getting my a** kicked, just as even a person in Aikido could probably put a hurt on someone based on experience(Delmar is gonna reply to this post now...he's sharpening the sword...(I kid)). There is no art that is invincible-it comes down to the practitioner. You can hope that Darwin's law will catch up to the kid, however, and he'll get his a** kicked by someone in a style he considers beneath him....don't sweat it much.

Personnally I believe that if you're going to bash an art then you've got to back your arguement constructively.

Just saying that an art sucks without backing up your arguement just makes you look ignorant.

Every single art/style has it's weaknesses but that's where cross training comes in so you can build on the areas you lack.

I believe that every art has something unique to offer but as you all know i'm usually the first to come out when it comes to the subject of self defence. I'll never bash an art and say it's s**t full stop, but I will say an art is shite in regards to a certain area (such as self defence etc).

I don't even draw a line, because that line can't and doesn't exist.

I cant stand bashers, I mean, a bit it fine, but when it starts going overboard, I need to then tell them to shut the hell up.

I see a lot of "[random style] is better than [random style]" crap, even around here.
Total s**t.
To say generalize an entire style and all it's practioners as sucking is pretty asinine.

In general. Muay Thai Practitioners will generally beat down TKD.

Or in 10 years, Bullshido will just invade all martial arts more. Thats my bet. All you really can do to prevent it, is know what your looking for, and ability to find it. Bullshido as you guys put it was a major concern of mine, and why I never looked, but the first place I happened to look wasnt Bullshido, I guess my concerns where to much smile

It's bad right now, but it'll be terrible in the future. Your right though, all MA's will eventually be sunk into bullshido mediocrity. Unless we fight it!!!

There is no real way to fight it unfortunatly. Except keeping up your studies, and eventually opening up your own place. sweatdrop

having authentic MA places actually drive the bullshidoists out. If they get no revenue they will quit.

Which leads to "All you can do is open your own" wink
I think the main problem is parants for younger kids. 8-12. They don't research what the place is. And once the the youngen is old enough to find better the parant will then argue that he has been there for three or four years.
