Brooklyn Jetter

In this vaulted, shadow-filled hall, two lanterns (one on each wall) begin to glow with a weak golden light. Seconds after that, two more lanterns hanging 10 feet beyond the first two begin to glow dimly. Pair by pair, each set separated by 10 feet, lanterns flicker to life and provide a faint illumination. Once a person enters they spring to brightness, lighting the whole room, and leading the way down stairs and past several long tables with identical chairs behind them.

The back wall, which is behind the tables, and is split by the stairs is bare, only holding high-up windows which let sunlight filter into the room. The side walls are completely covered in both posters which contain strange formulas, alchemy symbols, designs, and people using magic, along with bookshelves that are entirely full. The front wall, however, is simply one gigantic whiteboard, the name "Brooklyn-Lark Jetter" written in the scrawling script typical to most professors.

The young man's desk sits just in front of it, and seems in order, with a basket filled with whiteboard erasure markers, and several texts. Also the folders containing the profiles of his students.

Still, this is not where B.L. Jetter stands. Instead, there is a lecturn, on a slightly raised area to the side of his desk, and in the center of the front area, where he gives his lectures. This is where he greets his pupils.

Today was his very first lecture, however, the serious young man didn't seem at all concerned. In fact, he was simply jotting down some notes to remember where he stood. He also wasn't as scatter-brained as his collegue, Turner Herrick, and had already read his students' files, memorizing the content.

In walked his first student, the koala girl eyeing the dragon accompaning her, silently reminding him that this was a class and no talking was allowed in classes. Bob gave a snort as he followed the girl past several of the tables. Ala chose a chair at a table in the second row. Close to the front, but not actually in the front. A spot that got you on a teacher's good side, but still allowed you to get away with doodling during class.

Bob settled himself under the table Ala had chosen, eyeing the man at the front of the classroom for a moment. Well, the man didn't look like those that had tried to kill his bonded. But he'd be keeping an eye on the teacher, just in case.

Chath was second into the classroom he took note of the careful arrangements of lanterns the desk and chairs his attention landing first on the teacher and then secondly to Ala. She had been in numerous of his classes but he hadn't really gotten to know her yet. This could prove a good chance to speak with her...or at least become her partner.

He gave a wave to Ala as he came to sit on her left Keir looked over Bob and gave more of a I am going to ignore you now and laid underneath Chath's table with some difficulty. He flashed a grin to Ala and then gave a nod to the teacher, he wondered what kind of teacher this man would be like. Anything like Thomas? who knew.

Gabby had been anxiously awaiting her next magic class! She was excited to study more on the subject and rather curious to the new teacher as well; the only other magic teacher she knew was Raven. As soon as the lovebird entered the classroom her attention was caught by her curious surroundings. Only a second after that she noticed the two other children in the room and smiled brightly when she saw that she knew both of them. Or well, she had been in a few classes with Ala, but Chath she knew pretty well! Cool! And hey, it seemed like they were expecting a few more students, that meant she was actually in time for class once!

“Hellooo,” she chirped as she quickly slipped on a chair next to Chath’s, “This is such an interesting classroom.” She added before her gaze drifted towards the young man; apparently their teacher. She gave him a wide grin, “Hello mister!” She greeted as she took her notebook and plopped it down in front of her.

Silenias had been following Gabby around like always. His eyes rested on the other two dragons as he took place on the ground next to Gabby. Magic, so much better than melee! Yes, this class would be a good one.

"Stop it Re." Sahra hissed, fastening her pace. "I'm in no mood to mess around." It was true, she was in one of her rarer than rare rotten moods. Yin had up and left the house with no warning just that morning, leaving three toddler-what-ever-they-where’s all alone. Of course eventually they all started crying, for various reasons, one hungry, one bored, and so on. They had disturbed her study time, giving her the possibly worse head ache she thought she'd ever had. Worse came to worse, and Yin hadn't come home by the time she had to leave for class, so she had to call all around in order to find a babysitter. It was relieving to be somewhere quiet.

"Lighten up, Srra." He chimed as he bounced oddly down the hall, the young lindworm seemed to be in a much better mood than his cheetah counterpart. "They're somewhere else now. No more worrying. We'll do something horribly evil to Yin tonight to get her back!" Ephrem grinned at his statement, nudging again at the girls leg.

"Hmph." Was her only response; by this time they had just entered the classroom, the dragon slithering along slowly behind her. She quietly took a seat at an empty table in the front, a sour look implanted upon her face. No one would bother her up here; she could concentrate on the teachers lecture. Sahra reached into a leather satchel swung across her shoulders, and pulled out a notebook and a pen. Ephrem leaned against her side, eyes just at table level; he was staring at the man in front of the room.

Brooklyn had simply tugged at his jacket sleeve, straightening the garment as he watched the children and their dragons trickle in, before leaning forward on his lecturn. The last two girls came in just close enough to late to make him frown, however, the cat-like one, whom he distinguished as Sahra, redeemed herself by sitting in the front table, and neglecting to speak to anyone. Gabby, however, continued to chatter. How irritating. Glancing down at his wrist-watch, he noted that it was exactly time to start, and that one student, a unicorn, apparently, had failed to arrive. Tch.

"Let's begin. I am Brooklyn-Lark Jetter, and as long as we are in my hall, you shall refer to me as Mr. Jetter. Not 'Mister', not 'Jetter', and definately not 'Brooklyn'." Now that he was done with that, an easy smile smoothed over his features, and he pushed up his glasses slightly. "Welcome to my Introduction in the Magical Discipline! I'm pleased to find others with whom to share my theories. This class may be quite different than any other you've taken, in the sense that we'll have a series of lectures, with some questions and answers sessions, along with a few tests. I'll be giving you a spell formula at the end of today's overview, which you are to study and complete. In more advanced courses, you'll begin to understand the patterns behind spellcasting, and be taught to create your own."

Pausing, his fingers gripped the edges of the lecturn, his smile long gone now, only solemn dedication in it's place. "Any questions, so far?"

Ala had dug out her own notebook and pencil from her bag, smiling at the newt boy who sat next to her. She recognized him from several of her classes. Oh, what was his name again?! Ala hoped that she wouldn't be forced to admit that she didn't recall his name.

And luckily, the next kid to enter was Bob's least favorite of those he'd met thus far. In fact, the brass dragon gave a soft hiss of annoyance once he spotted Gabby walking in. And, yup, as usual, the girl was talking a mile a minute. And she had taken the seat on the other side of Chath, which meant that Ala was lucky and wouldn't have to admit she had forgotten the boy's name... yet.

The next girl was another familar face. Alaqua had seen Sahra in several of her classes as well. She really ought to get to know her classmates, considering she didn't remember any of their names...

And then, the teacher was talking. Ala blinked, so he was gonna be strict on what they called him. None of the other teachers so far had seemed to mind... The girl's thoughts were interrupted as the man continued on before pausing for questions. Ala gave a slight shake of her head. None... yet.

Chath smiled and gave a small wave to Gabby, and made a mental note to make a date...er...um..not a date exactly but...you know set a day to hang out? yah thats right. He had barely gotten a chance to speak to her at all, despite the fact she was in many of his classes.

He flashed a smile to Ala, making a note to himself to ask her what her name was later on. He couldn't remember if she had been introduced to him at all. But her copper dragon looked cool.

As Mr. Turner introduced himself and explained the purpose of the class Chath raised a hand as soon as the teachers last words left his mouth.

"Does that mean we can further the magic we have already learned? And make new spells from them too?" He asked sounding fairly interested in the whole thing. Considering he didn't like magic at first he was becoming more and more confident in his skills in it.

Gabby almost jumped up from her chair when her sister entered the room, but Sil reminded her of the presence of the teacher by nudging her in the side. So instead Gabby tried to gain the attention of the feline in a less obvious way. “Psh, Sah-la.” She whispered before she turned her gaze to Sil, “Aww, Sil, go poke her for me will ya.” She continued in an even softer tone. The Silver figured that it’d be much easier to catch Re’s attention and so he softly groaned, “Reee..” He couldn’t walk over to them. The teacher seemed strict enough and Sil liked magic. He didn’t want to get removed from this class!

Gabby returned Chath’s wave happily before she turned her attention to the koala girl, “Your name was Ala, right—oh uh sorry Mr. Jetter.” She noticed that the man had started talking and so she tightly pressed her lips together and simply listened. Oh, Chath had an interesting question! Would they be able to? Did she have any questions herself? Gabby grinned widely and shook her head a little, “Oh! Mr. Jetter, I think I’ll just save those for later.” Well, she had a few questions. The lovebird girl would never be able to stop asking and Mom always said that she never should stop asking. But yes, right now she’d save them for later. Besides, Chath’s question was interesting enough!

Sahra pressed her palm up against her cheek, elbow on the table top, supporting her head with her arm. She waited patiently, although most of her patience had already been used up, she managed. The feline nodded in slight at the teachers request, nothing out-of-the-ordinary, she normally called most teachers as such anyways.

To this point, she had simply been ignoring her sister, being in no mood to interact with much of anyone. Ephrem on the other hand, had heard Silenias almost right off the back, and had his attention turned to the silver dragon. He stared, wide eyed, blinking in a stupefied fashion. He had his attention, but he wasn't about to make a sound.

Resting her free palm flat on Re's neck, Sahra noted down the lizard (or what ever he was) boys question in her mind. Eyes shifty, she awaited an answer, since having no questions herself.

Brooklyn scanned his class before answering, skeeing out those who may have had questions, but held their tongues. Gabby, he could see, and Chath, were the talkers of the class, however, the young man didn't find them particularly interesting.

"What use would a magic course be that didn't further your knowledge in the discipline? Once you understand the patterns behind which you've been taught, you can begin to teach yourself." Looking thoughtful, he removed, and cleaned, his glasses with his shirt, before sliding them on, and giving the class a charming smile.

"I have a question for each of you. Tell me, what, if anything, have you learned about magic, so far?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 19, 2007 12:42 pm

Ala blinked in mild surprise at the man asking them a question. Well, she supposed that made sense. He would want to know how much they'd learned already. "Well, I've learned about the necessary elements of magic and different components of magic." It was short, but it pretty much summarized Raven's classes. Sort of...

"As she said." Sahra agreed, bored, voice dry, eyes following the teacher's every movement. "What makes up a spell, elements, active and passive tools, correspondences, etc." At this point she would much rather answer questions than ask them, although that didn't exactly mean she was all that interested in talking. Debating or logically discussing something, maybe, but she wanted no run-of-the-mill small talk.

Ephrem gazed at the odd man, wondering why he would soil his own shirt with his dirty glasses, rather than use a piece of cloth dedicated to such a task. He had seen people in the mall pull out special cloth chunks from their bags souly dedicated to cleaning their eyewear. What's up with that? And why did it matter what they knew already? No re-teaching something wouldn't do to much good, still, most of them probably weren't on the same level.

Chath looked at the other students and was a bit stunned. Was he the only one who actually learned a spell?

"Um...I learned that my magic is of the Soul, I have also learned how to summon the raw form of water as well control it's direction and speed to where i send it out." He finished feeling good about himself. It had been a nightmare trying to get that spell right. And Thomas had been a very tough teacher as well.

Geeze, was her sister ignoring her now? Gabby pouted softly as she quietly did a second attempt to catch her the cheetah’s attention. Sil blinked at Re before he curled back up next to Gabby's chair. Come on Gabs, this class would be interesting. Sahra would still be there by the end of the class!

Gabby smiled at the teachers question and nodded her head eagerly. “I was in your class, wasn’t I, Ala? From miss Raven, ooh, yes we took it together! We studied the three elements, will, imagination and umm.. Procedure, yep that was the last one!” She tilted her head and gazed at Chath. Wow, he seemed to be much more experienced at magic already! Whoa, she wished she knew all that stuff! “Cool!” She grinned.
