Not really. I mean, in a sense the cosmos does control our lives because, for crying out loud we depend on the star we call the Sun for life. If the Sun just vanished, we'd be pretty screwed. In that sense, yeah, we are controlled.
In the mystical, fate sense, however, I disagree.

and yeah, there are so many better things that can be studied by these scientists.
WTF??? Why are they sitting around a table discussing PLUTO when they should be researching things of much more consequence?!?!?!?!

In an environmental way, the OP does have a point.
But in the psychological way, how are a bunch of pieces of earth MILLIONS of miles away controlling what we do?
