Asi paced back and forth in a slow lumber, eyes half shut as he tried to think. He'd been avoiding the three little ones as much as he could, they all made him very nervous. His tail flicked and he sighed, glancing toward the dens. He needed to be with them though.. how must they feel with a mother who's suddenly not in their lives any longer... a blood father who never would be..

He padded toward it and sat, just staring at the den and willing any of the three to come out. He didn't feel comfortable going in. He wished that Saf was around, he needed to introduce her to the little ones...

Kibuulu'ardhi, the last daughter of Mng'Ariza, and perhaps one of the dead-beat air-headiest of her children. The young cub had lived her short life mainly without a mother, had adjusted to it, and was as perky as one would expect of a cub her age. She had only a memory of warmth that was a mother, and already that memory was slinking into the back of her mind to be eventually forgotten. In some strange night in the future, while she curled up in sleep, she'd remember that touch, that barely distinct warmth her mother had given her.

Mng'Ariza was gone, but Kibuluu had learned to fashion any adult female in her sight as her mother. But, she had only one father, though. She was too young to understand that she was not of his blood, but she would old enough to understand some of the bond that had developed. She loved her father, though at times he seemed distant and aloof. She loved curling up against him and falling asleep, to only be comforted by his looming warmth. He was her father, and nothing would change that.

She woke, a bleary blue eye opening in a drawed out solo, before it became a full symphony when her other eye peeked open. With a little yawn, tiny, sharp teeth barely poking out from under her lips, she stretched. Her first instinct was to crawl out of the den and greet the day, and so she did, but discovered pleasantly that she had someone else to greet.

"Daddy!" Kibuulu stumbled forward eagerly, large paws (in comparison to her tiny body) slapping down against the earth in such a way that it made her whole body shake from the force. "Daddydaddydaddydaaaaaaadddyyy!" While he was always quiet, she was always loud - to the point of being obnoxious.

The lion tried not to cringe at the words of affection, daddy. He was a father figure, he was the only thing the cubs had. Though soon they would have a nanny and that would be that, wouldn't it? "Hullo Kib." He said softly, weakly smiling at the youngest of the three. "Didja sleep well?" He tried very hard not to let his accent get too thick around the cubs, he knew it was hard to understand even for other adults.

He wanted to tell her to calm down... but he didn't want to sound harsh or mean. He wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to do beyond what he already was doing, small talk and watching her.

"Hullo."

This was followed by an enthusiastic giggle, because Asi's accent was quickly turning into a game for Kibuluu. She enjoyed mimicking the words, and it was coming to the point that she was beginning to naturally talk like her father (though with a little more clear of an accent, for indeed Asi's efforts to make himself more easily understood were working). Her father was a role model, because he was the main adult in his life.

He could not possibly know it would be traumatic for Kibuluu when she got her nanny. Losing her time with her father would be too much of a heart-wrenching shock for her. Perhaps she'd get over it in time, but her childhood was being spent with her father, and it was at this age that stronger imprints were left upon her. Asi was one very big imprint.

"I slept well 'nuff. Baa kept on kicking meh side so I had ter hit 'er and tell 'er to knock it off." Perhaps it was simply baby talk rather then her own accent, and so the hopes of it wearing off were high.

Asi smiled softly at the image that came to his mind and he chuckled. "Aye, aye... bu' couldn'ya jus' tell 'er teh stop insteada kickin'er?" He raised his brows. "Yeh might'uv 'urt 'er..." He suddenly realized how fast he was speaking and tried to slow it down. "Bu' I be glad yeh told 'er to stop, tha' par' was right."

Her own 'accent' hadn't gone unnoticed by the male, though he knew cubs sometimes didn't speak the best all of the time. So he wasn't sure if she was actually mimicing him or not.

As her father spoke faster, she seemed to become more excited. It was coming to the point where she was practically prancing around her father before he managed to get his speed back under control. It was surprised, actually, how influencial Asi had become to this one cub. He was technically not her father, and often seemed to try and distance himself from her and her siblings. Yet, somehow he had still managed to make himself important to Kibuluu.

"I tell 'er dat and she dun listen, so I gotter kick 'er or she won't leave meh be. If I 'urt 'rt she'dda told me. She didun so she wassun hurt." Kibuluu tilted her head upwards in a defiant stare that was not effectively pulled off. Her blue eyes were too sweet, too innocent, and too full of mirth to pull off the rebellious look.

"I be glad if you told 'er to stop, too. I dun like my side gettin' kicked. It 'urts like a tick."

He smiled softly and shook his head lightly, chuckling. "Aye, I be tellin' er teh stop as long as yeh agree to no kick 'er again. E'en if she kicks yeh firs, okay? Yeh jus' tell me if tha'appens." It was almost a little weird how these three cubs looked simular to him, his coat color. It hurt though, because they were not his. His poor Ari... what she had gone through and then to end with such a horrible fate..

"Yeh 'ungry?" He said slowly, standing and stretching.

She frowned, seeming disinclined to agree to such a deal. If her sister was going to kick her when she was taking a nap, she was going to kick right back. It was only fair, and her father was taking away that fairness. But, above all else she respected her father, and with a derisive snort, ears pinning to the back of her momentarily, she grudgingly agreed. "Fine, but when I tell you, you better tell 'er."

At the mentioning of food, her eyes brightened, a gleeful smile spreading across her small face. "VEWWY!" Now she begun to pace, as if the excitement at getting food was becoming too much for her. Her stomach growled with renewed hunger, and though she could've survived a few horus without food, when her father offered it to her, she wasn't going to turn it down.
