So, I was wondering, what is the demand for an active Senate in the MRP? Who is interested in RPing a Senator? Any ideas for how it could all work exactly?

I think that people overlook the importance of politics in the Star Wars universe. Passing laws, debating, taxing, and (god fobid) getting involved in military operations.

If you wanted to make this more interesting. You could give a few PCs status of senators, while another person, maybe you, maybe K19, idk, who controls the rest of the senate. Then we could vote on legislation affecting the geater populace (ie PCs)

While this may be bland, the PC could have various motivations. Senators have alot of power and political intriuge and backstabbing is how the whole Galactic Empire started in the first place. Giving the PC senators sympathys, or having the senators develop them on their own could sway things one way or another. And having limited contact with common PCs would add a little to the complexity.

PMs would be needed though.

And I'd be a senator.

So are we incorporating a Senate in the storyline?

We need to know if people want to play a character for the senate or not. If not many people want to then we will pick a storyline where there isn't a senate. Also ideas oh how to keep it going. Most of the time the senate becomes a deck RP area because there isn't anything to post about.

Perhaps at some point all members in the guild will act as a "senate" (a non-participating one).

When a decision has been made for a vote, there will be an OOC thread asking people to vote for decision, with summarized points made by various opinions.

This might interest people in joining the senate, as well as to keep opinions spread out to everyone.

I'd like to play a Senator....though, my question is what's the actual story you guys are planning on. Or is there none yet?

Ahhh....great... sweatdrop What are some things you'd like to see in the guild be played out?

I would definitely be willing to try playing a senator, though I admit a lack of political savvy personally. The only issue I can see is that I have a tendency to want to adventure, so I'd have to be the kind of senator that spends alot of time in the field, but yeah, I'm down.

Love it! How 'bout this: Everyone involved in the RP has the option of taking a senate seat as a separate semi-character. Whenever a vote is needed, a new poll thread is started and all those who have senators are allowed to vote as their character would, and the option that wins is enacted. I have experience with this sort of thing, as I'm active in a huge political RP, and it usually works out well when someone wants to hold elections and such in their nation.

I think being able to play a senator would be great, especially if they have some kind of hidden agenda like Palpatine....

Palpatine was slick, admittedly, but I'd be better suited as more of a Sen. Garm Bel Iblis type. Dude's not afraid to get his hands dirty if the need arises. That's more my style.

As many know, I'm active in TGE. I find their Sentae works nicely.

Instead of an RP format, its basically a big play ground where everyone discusses their issues, and can get an equal (or unequal vote) on things. Works really good with thread and RP suggestions, as well as new rules and such.

Edit: If we do RP, I call the Kuat system

well actually im psyched to even think of a real governmental system in place in a role play.

but before you ask how it would work you have to ask what the senate is really going to do. like... is it just there to fill power trip role players with no consequential decision making availability, or will it actually effect the people of the guild and what kinds of obsticles they have to play around.

for instance the republic senators can debate as to the need to go to war with the empire and the dark jedi, and how they can go about a war with them. almost with a bureaucratic control over the military.

the senate could house a debate (question posed and mediated by the supreme chancellor) for example. asking what planet the republic should attack or if it should even spend the credits on an offensive at all. the senate picks perhaps from, two to four possible suggestions proposed by different senators (and possibly Moffs and imperial ambassadors) and from those choices the public average Role players vote to the outcome after reviewing the debates.... there in actually creating a deeper role play experience. depending on that vote the mods can create a new battle ground for R-Pers of all four factions to mingle and battle with. because when it comes down to it... i think thats what all the combat ready kids want to do.

perhaps after a certain amount of time, the role playing senator with the most votes by the public can be placed as chancellor... or there can just be a flat out election.

if being a senator actually made a difference in the RP i would definitely be a senator... in fact i might force my political interested friends to join the guild and be senators too.

the same kind of feature could be used in the imperial council, only the council moffs would have be available to vote and determine the real decisions. and imperial under lings would just have to follow orders like it was meant to be.
