Sekizen was happy to be alive today, and was determined to find his father, despite the fact that he didn't even know what his father looked like! Still, something in his bones told him that today was the day, and he was looking for something black and white. Sekizen pushed through the grasses, Pride Rock clearly visible in the distance. He didn't notice the lioness that wasn't far from him, however.

Ruffian's grouchyness was well hidden, though she was certain bits would poke out. She thought that being a scout would be easy, but it certainly wasn't. She was always on the borders, or out further off, which was nice, but she had to greet strangers that she saw, something very hard for her to do. What was the point? But she would be kind for the Queen, for she did hold some respect for her.
Ruff's ears perked as she heard the upbeat step of a cub nearby. Well! Another one that had wandered off. She picked her spirits up, so to speak, and started to look around her for the little bugger. It wasn't too long, though, before she came across a cute black and white little cub. "Hah," she snorted, glad that she found him now instead of closer to say, the graveyard.

Sekizen jumped at the sound of a louder voice. He hadn't been expecting anyone to be around, and the female had shocked him. "Hello," he said timidly, looking up into the black lioness's face. She seemed nice enough, but he hadn't really talked to her yet. "What are you doing out here?" He asked innocently.

Ruffian blinked at the cub. Well, he was...cute. But he shouldn't be all the way out here by himself, right? She sat herself down, hoping that she wouldn't scare him off. Be nice, she thought, be nice....smile!
The smile that grew on her face was a little stiff as she spoke to the cub. "Just watching out for little ones like you. Should I ask why you're out here, by yourself?" Her smile grew a little more genuine, wondering if he'd give her some silly story, perhaps about gods or ghosts or butterflies. Common stories that she was sure she would hear about as she continued to be a scout.

Sekizen smiled back at the black lioness when she smiled. He had to explain himself, and a lie wasn't the trick... "I'm out here looking for my father. I've never seen him before, but I know he's around the Pridelands somewhere," Sekizen said, turning his gaze away. How rude of me, he thought as an afterthought, and looked back up at her. "My name's Sekizen, by the way. What's yours?"

"Oh?" was all she said at first. A little cub such as this looking for his father? She swished her tail, hoping that this wouldn't get awkward for her. She didn't want to pry, just in case the father ended up dead or something, and getting the little guy's hopes up.
"Ruffian is what you can call me, Sekizen." Her brown eyes studied the little white boy, deciding to let him pick up the question about his father if he really wanted too. "Have you been looking for a while?" Okay, so she would pry a bit, but it was more so she would know how long he'd been gone then anything.

"Nice to meet you, Ruffian," Sekizen said. "Every time I'm out, I keep an eye peeled for him, but it's like looking for a particular leaf in a forest. There are so many that fit, but you can never be sure if it's the one you're looking for," He said, keeping his face completely emotional. He loved his ability to do that, and prided himself on it. He turned his green eyes upward again, waiting for the adult to ask him any more, or tell him where his father was, if she knew.

Ruffian's ears perked forward as the cub explained his plight. From the mouth of babes... she couldnt believe what she'd heard. Well, this one was certainly either very smart, or well educated with his words. A refreshing thing to see from some of the other cubs she'd seen.
"What would your mother say if she knew you were out here looking for him? I'm certain she would be worried about you," she swished her tail with this comment, letting her harsh side chide her for giving off a motherly moment. Even if the Pridelands were peaceful, you never knew what was lurking around.

"Yeah, she probably would," He admitted, looking away. He hoped his mom wasn't worrying about him right now! A wave of panic swept across him under his outer shell. What if she was looking for him right now? He turned to look behind him, and saw Pride Rock off in the distance. Where did he live in comparison to that? That was where he had come from, after all. He went from the den to Pride Rock, and then meandered a weaving path out here.
He turned back to the adult. "I didn't realize I was this far out... I don't know which way home is," He said lowering his ears a bit. He doubted Ruffian would know either, but he had given her his hint.

Ruffian did her best to not snort at the child. She couldn't well blame him for not thinking with his head, but it could be quite damaging if she told him just how she felt. Especially since she was not too good with sweetening her opinion on things.
"Ermm.." she started, unsure of her words. "Well, Sekizen, we can find your home together, then. I'm sure you don't live too far off from the Rock, right?" She was hoping that he would accept, or else she wouldn't know what to do to get him home. She would do her best as her job of being a scout. Which sometimes felt more like a nanny position then she though.

"I don't think so, but to some it might be a stretch," he said. "I'm sure that once we get close enough something will trigger my memory," he assured the adult, glad to have someone to converse with who wasn't a cub. He really didn't get along well with most on a conversational level- he was too far ahead of them in the mental department.
"So..." He said, trying to think of a way to stir up conversation. "How long have you lived here?" He asked, looking up at her.

Well, he seemed very responsible! She was a bit irritated at having to escort him home, but she was sure that it would give her points in favour of the others, and she needed that, as one that didn't converse too well with others. Plus it would leave her unsettled to leave him out here, all alone. She had heard the stories of hyenas, and they weren't too pretty.
"Ah, I've just recently moved in. Have you seen a big white lion, called Daemon? I helped him move here, and I'm staying for a while, I guess." She didn't really know what else to say, but wanted to give the cub a little permission to tease her friend if the white cub ever came across him. "If you do meet him, let him know his coat looks like fluffy clouds. He likes that," she stated with a grin.

Daemon... fluffy clouds. Sekizen repeated to himself in his mind. "Got it," He told her. Maybe, if Sekizen ever managed to find his father, he could search for this lion too.
The little white cub wondered if he should ask where she had lived before now, but decided not to. Maybe she had been a slave, or something terrible like that! What bad memories he could bring back if he said the wrong words. He kept those thoughts to himself and watched the big rocks loom in front of him as they approached.
"Are you always by the borders?" He asked instead, deciding that this was a more reasonable question.

Awww, he seems cute. Ruffian's ideal on cubs was quickly changing with this little fellow. He was cute, and quite polite! Unlike her...brat of a companion, but they had a very odd relationship at the moment. She snorted as she thought about it, and soon turned her attention back to the cub.
"Oh? Oooh. Well, I'm..." she thought of a way to simplify how she felt about the others in the pride without seeming mean. "I'm...kind of shy, so I like the quiet parts of the borders. Plus it's a good way of making sure that kids like you stay safe." She left a little hint of a tease in her tone, poking a little bit about how the cub had wandered off. She hoped he wouldn't get too upset, though was certain he'd take it in stride.

Sekizen smiled. He liked this Ruffian, she seemed really nice! She kind of sounded like him... She didn't like the noise of life, but prefered quiet contemplation. Or at least that was how he had interpreted her words.
"I don't blame you," he said. "My brothers and sisters want to play all the time! They can get really annoying, but they're not bad most of the time." Overall, he did love his siblings, and would hate to loose them, but they had their hard spots. Most of the time it was Sekizen who gave in when a conflict arose, but he always took it with silence.
