Persephones Son

Hey everyone,
I'm starting to rekindle my interest in Greek Mythology and the richness of its tales... right now I'm reading The Metamorphoses by Ovid. It is a fascinating book of epic stories all written around a central theme, the consistency of change and how change greatly affected the infamous characters in Roman and Greek myths. Ovid lived just outside of the Roman city walls within the century before the birth of Jesus.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had the chance to read this book or anything else by this author... if so, let me know what you think.
Otherwise, any feedback on favorite gods/goddesses? My Gaia character is named after Persephone, daughter of Demeter and husband of Hades, Ruler of the Underworld.
Thank you for your input...

I've not read the book you're talking about, but I have read other things about Greek Mythology.

It's all interesting, but very messed up.

I understand what you mean by 'messed up,' but that is what's so fascinating about General Mythology... once you scale down the stories from their original grandeur, you can actually relate them to the intrigue that we face in our everyday lives! It's kind of like soap operas for the intellectual mind biggrin

I have always enjoyed Greek Mythology. Have you read the Oddessey? I really think it is neat that the Greeks had good enough imaginations to come up with excuses for natural disasters.

One of the characters in my stories is named Eris. Eris is the Greek goddess of Discord. Like the deity she is named for, Eris causes big trouble in my story.

I read the Oddessy(sp?) a couple years back, really great book. I love how they come across something in nature and can think of an awesome story of how it happened and why and when, like Zoe said. I think my favorite story was about Artemis, Apollo, and Orion which says how the scorpion and Orion became constellations.
I specialize in Greek Mythology for Quizbowl (aka Academic Team) but the questions always mess me up because they're usually the Roman version. Like this: Which Roman god was the husband of Venus and is also the God of Fire. Of course I never hear half the question and can't think fast enough to remember that Venus is roman so I blurted out Hephestus instead of Vulcan lol. I hate getting the questions wrong on a technicality though. What happened after Persephone was kidnapped by Hades and Demeter mourned the loss? I said 'winter' but the answer was the changing of the seasons. I went all gonk meh so is my life
My favorite Goddess is deffinately Artemis/Diana because she reminds me so much of myself. The God would probably be Hermes because anyone that can fly around, be a thief, send messages, herd animals, guide travelers, and be in every pile of stone by the road has to be awesome. O.o...long post neutral

I have to say that my favorite greek god story is that of Prometheus. The God who gave man fire and was subsequently chained to a mountain for doing so.

Yeah, that was a good story. It would suck if a vulture ate your liver everyday though.

I used to play both Ceres and Diana in Drama Club. I wanted to play Echo, too, but they had someone else do that. I almost got to be Athena, too, at a "Wax Museum" fundraiser, but then I moved. crying

You forgot the God of Death: Thanatos. And the God of Sleep: Hypnos.

I love Greek mythology. I think I like Hades the most, but I am honestly not quite sure.

If you like mythology I would suggest the Dark-Hunter series. It's not actually mythology, but it takes the Greek, Roman, and Celtic gods and puts a twist on them. It kind of makes it's own myths, but it's helpful to know the old myths.

Whenever I read it I just get real annoyed at Orpheus... He messes everything up xp

Favourite god/dess? Probably Athena, or maybe Dionysus... i like them all.
