Anoki stretched and yawned as he slowly came awake, blue eyes blinking open. Unwilling to possibly put his new pack mates on edge by coming too close, too soon, the earth-colored male had chosen to sleep a short distance away from what seemed to be the most heavily used area. Now that he was rested and alert, he felt quite ready to face the pack he now belonged to. He lifted his head, tilting his ears this way and that, sensitive nose scenting the air as he searched for signs of others. A low, cautious howl rose from his throat, alerting anyone nearby of his presence.

'Neira was not happy. Not happy ********. In fact, it had been quite some time since she had been in such an ill-tempered mood.

She appeared to have been abandoned again. Of her alpha and packmates she could find no sign. After that last fateful hunt it seemed as though the forest had spirited them all away to be replaced by strangers, new wolves who she did not recognise at all.

Worse, at least one of them was MALE. She fumed, her jaws gritted, teeth gnashing. She probably hadn't been this upset since before Maia was born, since she became more afraid than angry - the small life she had to take care of bringing caution and a small degree of patience. Now, though, they'd all left her and she was free to do as she damn well pleased.

This was supposed to have been her sanctuary, her refuge. Away from males and their ways, away from her old pack, away from reality, really. Slowly, though, she realised she was either going to have to face this namless horde of newcomers or slink off, tail between her legs.

She was not in a slinking mood.

Her ears picked up a howl - low, uncertain sounding. Her ears pricked as she headed in the direction of the sound, hackles rising, ready for confrontation. It was only moments before she reached him, just outside the area where the others of her pack tended to sleep. Or had done, until recently.

Her lips curled back in a characteristic, snarling grimace "Who the HELL are you and what the ******** are you doing in these lands!?" It was more a demand than a question and was hurled with venom at the toffee-chocolate coloured male. Despite her relatively small stature the grey and black female was not to be trifled with. Although within her pack she'd usually automatically defer to any of higher rank she rather saw herself as above most other wolves especially males and it was not beneath her to do more than snarl.

((^^;; Neira's a tad upset at the moment.. *coff* ))

Anoki blinked, rather rapidly in fact. This was...not good, if this was the way most of the pack would react to him. Where was that alpha when he needed him, to set this female straight? Then again, that was a coward's way out. Lifting his head, Anoki tilted it, brow raising curiously. "Nice to meet you too... I am Anoki, and my offer of help in the hunt was accepted by this pack's alpha." Obviously, he wasn't aware that Kiros might not be considered the 'true' alpha by most of the pack.

'Neira's stance did not change, her mood worsening at his words. Would Kara have let this male in? Did they even need help hunting at the moment? She wasn't sure they did and Anoki would simply be another mouth to feed. No, she didn't think Kara had told this male he could stay...

"Liar!" she hissed, outraged that he'd try to decieve her in her own 'home' and would come so far into the territory without being told he could do so. "I don't believe she said any such thing! This is not a place for males." her voice dripped with malice and anger, dark red eyes flashing. 'Neira had never even heard of Kiros, nor seen him, nor would she ever accept a male as her alpha.

"Don't make me ask again, male" - she made the word sound as though it made a bad taste in her mouth just to say it - "what are you doing here and why haven't you left already!"

Anoki's ears went back, bewilderment filling his eyes. "I'm not..." he said, shaking his head. "I met him and his daughter, and he allowed me to come back here. She called me Mud, but it didn't seem like an insult, more like her own name for me." It had been rather flattering, actually. He'd never had a nickname before.

Then he stiffened. "Woah, wait, back up a minute. ...She? Am I missing something here?"

Neira's bark was self-satisfied once the male stopped rambling on. "You've got the wrong packlands, then, male" she snarled, her look even more haughty now she felt she was definetly correct. "The alpha of these lands is a female and has no pups. Her name is Kara and she will run you off as soon as she sets eyes on you!" His look of confusion spurred her on.

Her head tilted up, her posture the very image if triumph. "Well, what are you waiting for? Get away from here" she made it perfectly clear she be willing to back up her words with a just as forceful attack. Neira really did not tolerate males.

Anoki shook his head stubbornly. "He led me to these lands. He didn't give me directions and leave me, he led me here. So I didn't get lost trying to follow directions somewhere else, if that's what you're thinking." His brow furrowed. "I don't know Kara. I also don't know why he led me here, he let me assume he was the alpha, or high in the ranks. He was brown, with lots of blue swirls and an odd bag around his neck. The pup was deep blue, with markings of bright green and a lighter blue." He tilted his head with ears pricked forward after finishing his descriptions, wondering if either would ring a bell.

When each wolf was convinced they were right and had no way of telling how the mixup had occured there was bound to be more than a little confusion. 'Neira, though, would not let something like that phase her. "Well I don't know what you idiot males get up to but it sounds like you've been fooled by this brown, swirly male and his pup." Last time Neira had seen Jori the female hadn't been pregnant so nothing sparked a thought that the pup might be the offspring of her old packmate.

The grey and black female was really on edge now. She hadn't seen her packmates for quite some time and here was this male saying this was some other's land? Had something happened, maybe? Were her former friends dead, some male having come along and stolen their lands from them along with their lives?

"If this male has harmed my packmates in any way..." she growled deeply, as if to directly blame this male in front of her for the actions of any and all males.

"Then I shall gladly aid you in tearing him to shreds," Anoki finished smoothly, having gotten what looked like the opening he needed. "I'm none too happy about the fact that there's confusion at all, and if he's got allies...could be difficult for one wolf, could it not?" He tilted his head, making every effort to appear and be reasonable. If he had to harm this female to save his own skin, he wanted to be able to honestly say she'd struck first.

The problem with 'Neira was that her dislike wasn't rational and so it was unsurprising that the male didn't seem to have picked up on the fact of her antipathy towards all males, not just the one she now saw as an intruder.

"Why in the world do you think I'd want or even need your help!" she hissed at him, thinking how typical it was for a male to step in and act as though she was not capable of doing all of this herself. It wasn't really sensible - most likely 'Neira would have needed help, but that didn't really matter...

"I don't care if he has allies or not. I want to know what the hell has happened." he voice took on a hint of confusion for a moment. She wasn't sure whether to trust this malin front of her. Perhaps there was no other male, maybe he was trying to trick her somehow! She shook her head as if to clear it. She was in a bit of a quandry. Should she make this male leave and try and hold onto this place which she saw as belonging to her pack or shold she leave in case this faceless other came and perhaps took care of her too?

The best idea might be to leave, to see if she could pick up any other trails - though the wet wether would hamper that - and then either stay or go... As much as she harboured thoughts of revenge she did not yet know wether her packmates were safe or not. Perhaps they had just left... 'Neira's stomach lurched as she imagined being abandoned again truly. She had imagined them gone, taken or forcefully... It had not truly occured to her they might have simply left her without a second thought. She'd be alone again...

Her body seemed to slump, her eyes not really on the male any more. She didn't know what to do and noone was going to tell her. At the back of her mind the anger began to pile up again. She began to see this male as having been the cause of it all - this sudden feeling of loss and lonliness, her indecision. She growled, shaking her head again.

Anoki's ears went back. Just like a female to think he was doing it out of some sense of superiority. "Well, if you feel like possible suicide, go ahead," he said coolly, shrugging. "I suppose it's no skin off my nose whether you face superior numbers or not. I guess I don't have a reason to choose either side." He quirked a brow. "I mean, he could very well have displaced this Kara and taken the top of the heap himself. Would they listen to him, or to an old packmate? A puzzling situation, surely."

What a typical male to think that the only way of getting to someone was to go right up to them and pick a fight. As much as 'Neira was brash she was not stupid - not in a loosing fight. "Well if they have joined with him then I'll leave" it really was a simple as that. Despite the lonliness that would rbing at least she wouldn't have been abandoned. She would not stay where a male was leader, though, lonley or not.

'Neira's eyes narrowed as she watched Anoki. This could all be some elaborate trick but despite being an idiot male, he did seem to have been genuinely surprised at being told the situation. Fine then... At least she could go find out what had happened.

"Typical idiot male." was her last comment before she swung around, holding her tail high, and stormed off. Over her shoulder she called "And stay away from me, male!" it wasn't that she though that he'd follow her but males could be odd sometimes. She really didn't want anyone on her trail, especially as she intended to do some following of her own.

Anoki blinked. Well, she certainly seemed to be a bit of a sexist...okay, more than a bit. Definitely sexist. He had no intention of being near such a sour female unless or until he had to be. With a grunt, he started in the opposite direction at a trot to find game...and to think. If things were as tangled as they seemed to be, it would pay dividends to step carefully among the threads.
