Welcome to Gaia! ::

This, you may have gathered from the topic name, is not actually a story. I was planning on using it in one, but I think it has great significance on it's own.

Those that lose their guiding light, those that stray too far from the path of life… they are all bound to fate and destiny. Who knows what the future holds? If you loose sight of your dreams, you will perish in the darkness of ignorance. If you follow your dreams too eagerly, you will be blinded by the light of greed. Like a shepherd who chases the lost lamb then finds the task too exhausting, if you give up on your dreams, you will find that they will be forever lost and will never be found again. But, if the shepherd stumbles after the lamb and gets too close, the animal will be afraid and strive to escape - if you don’t take your time, the dream will always be just a hair’s width out of your reach.
But what of those who sit and wait for the dream to come to them? Do they benefit because of their ready patience? Or does the chance seep through their fingers like the azure waters? Who knows? I am yet to meet someone who has tried such a thing. Humans are impatient creatures: it is second nature to us to want something as swiftly as possible. It would be unnatural for a human to not feel this way. And yet… somehow, we know we should. Who are we to demand such possibilities from this bountiful world? Why can’t we simply allow nature to take her course and if Destiny decided to smile on us, who are we to envy those lucky few?
Who knows? I certainly don’t. We shall have to wait and see what Fate and Destiny have planned for us… no matter how we may dislike their verdict, we must obey: all of us are slaves to them, chained to their world and their devices of life and death.
