The sun was low when the green maluess rose from her quiet slumber. Two tiny pups were nuzzled against her side, having finished feeding some short time ago. It seemed like weeks since they had been born, but it had only been a few days or so. Their eyes were open now, and personalities had begun to pierce through the darkness. She'd known their genders at their birth, and relayed them to Gustave though he had yet to see the pups in the light. Once their eyes had opened, however, and they had some of their wits about them, Midori had promised she would bring them outside. Today was the day, or rather the evening.
The dying light would keep from shocking their new senses, and help to alleviate the pain such strong sunlight would bring their newly opened eyes. Besides, their father was at his most awake moments during the early evening. Gently licking the tops of their heads, she murmured quietly that it was time to get up and greet the night. When she was confident they were awake, if possibly confused, she made her way out of the den (careful not to hurt her pups) to stretch in the entrance while she awaited them.

((Have they been named yet? I'll just leave her as unnamed for now. I can always pop her name into the next post if they have, though xD))
The little pup drifted in and out of a deep sleep, her little blue wings twitching every now and then as she began the slow process of fully awakening to face the day. Or rather, the setting of the day. Almost as if she were fighting the pull of conciousness, she snuggled closer against her mother's warm side.
She was a tiny little p***k of a thing, only perhaps two thirds her brother's size, although one would have to be lying if they said she couldn't hold her own. The fact that she was only a little thing and that she was but a newly born youngster didn't seem to hold her back, and although she was much smaller, her eyes were quite large and did make her look quite adorable (if somewhat disproportionate).
Now, the green pup's miniature wings fanned the little curled up body gently, moving more to their own accord than anything else. Slowly her wings moved, up and down, until suddenly, they froze. The little ball of green fur tensed, and then... The little pup's eyes snapped open and for a moment, they were glassy and unseeing. Then the strange look faded and the pup lifted her head with a blink. Ever since her eyes had come, it had been a strange process to wake up. Her eyes would snap open and it would take a moment before they started to properly take in light and allow sight to filter in.

From looking at the siblings together, one would think that the larger male was the more dominant of the pair. In thinking this, however, they'd be entirely wrong. The winged male was a hardly dominant, pasificestic pup, with no mind to be in charge of anything or anybody. He was quiet and left words to others more times than not, and would more than likely live out his days sitting and chatting with his mother, as opposed to brashly flirting with the pup from down the way a bit. Not exactly what his father had expected, he would surely be a surprise, along with his sister.
Lifting his head and sporting an adorable yawn, the malu pup opened his eyes drearily. Everything was blurry in the dark of the den, but it was a comfortabley familiar blur. He tried to go for a bit of wake up time milk, but was shocked with the warm side of Midori moved away. His head plopping lightly on the soft dirt, He opened his eyes wider in time to see his mother walking away, and out of the den. Was it time to leave their little home? Batting at his sister's head, he stood on wobbly pup legs and made a move for the opening, but never truely left. Instead, he merely poked his head out and blinked furiously, attempting to adjust to the light.
Padding slowly through the Temple, Gustave looked anything but calm and collected. It was very out of character for the male to appear anything but cool and relaxed, but since Midori's pregnancy, he had been a bit... high strung. First time father's can get that way, after all. Today, however, had him in an even more unnerved state. It was the evening that he would see his beautiful litter out in the light, and truely get to know them for all they were. Pacing in the corridors, the male tried in vain to calm his unsettled nerves. In the end, he decided that he would have those darned butterflies for quite some time, but he could at least appear as his normal self. With that in mind, he moved away from where he had been doing a little circuit, and headed towards the garden where he and Midori had agreed a den would be made.
As he entered the garden, he was immediatley reminded of his first night with the enchanting maluess, and how captivated he had been with those red eyes. There she stood, next to the opening of the little den, looking as beautiful as ever. Any butterflies still left in his system were quickly flushed away, replaced by that ever present smirk. "You were right, love. You bounced that from that pregnancy pretty fast." He winked playfully, and came to a stop beside her. Affectionatly pressing his nose to her cheek, he smiled warmly and looked towards the opening of the den, deffinatley prepared to see exactly what the two little ones looked like. "Are you feeling okay?" His worries of a complicated birth were gone now, of course, since the litter had been born. Still, though, he was concerned for her health, as any doting partner may be.

Midori pressed her muzzle to open widely, emitting a quiet yawn before the ever-present smile reclaimed her features. It was a secretive grin, an expression many mothers gained after giving birth and experiencing the wonderful sensation of giving life to another creature, to one's own offspring. Stretching her back legs individually, her gaze turned towards the setting sun briefly before looking back to the den. They were certainly taking their time about it, but she supposed the first time out of the den would be a daunting event.
When atlast she caught sight of the little male poking his head out of the den entrance, she let her legs fold beneath her so her face was more level with him, though a short distance away. Her long ears swivelled forward before she spoke, "It's alright, dearheart. The sun won't hurt much longer." Her smile faded slightly when she didn't see her daughter just yet, but at the sound of her mate's footsteps and voice, she turned.
"I had to move around to keep my limbs from cramping." She chuckled softly at the explanation before looking between the den and her mate. "I'm alright, trying to lure them out but I think the sun might still be too bright." She frowned, wishing they had decided on names for them, but it had seemed more appropriate to wait until they had atleast breeched the den and the parents could take a better look at them in some form of sunlight. Midori had her ideas for names, but she hadn't asked Gustave just yet.

The little cub mewled and fanned her wings as she toddled after her large brother from the den. She blinked, stopping to peer curiously at the line the bright light made. One moment it was dark and the next it was too bright! She tilted her head and lifted her paw to dab at the lighted ground, drawing it back immediately. When nothing happened, she did it again. And again, until she finally realized that it was safe enough to leave the comfort of the den, and she toddled into the sunlight.
She trailed after her brother to reach their mother once again, lifting her paws high as if something would eat her up if she didn't walk strangely. She made her way to their mother's side, and looked up, expecting to see Midori's familiar face. Instead, she saw a giant blue creature standing before her. With a terrified squeal, the pup bolted backward, tripping on her mother's hind hoof and falling to the ground with a little plop. There she lay, her eyes squeezed tight as if she were trying to pretend to be dead, for a moment before leaping up again and bolting up to her mother's leg, flinging herself around it and burying her little head into Midori's green fur.

It seemed that as soon as Midori had mentioned luring the little ones out, the bolder of the pair ventured into the light. Gustave was awestruck for several moments, watching the lttle winged pup wobble her way under her mother, and then hide. It took a moment for the idea to sink in that she was hiding from him, something that quickly needed to be fixed. He layed down quickly, dropping to her level. Hopefully, that would make him seem less threatening, and she would instinctively figure that he must be her daddy. At least, that's the way it would work in a fairy tale. Everything about Midori and Gustave up until now had seemed like it, and now didn't feel like the time for it to stop. Of course, Gustave was a bit niave about this whole 'baby' thing. Flashing a smile none the less, he lowered his head to the ground slowly. "Hey there, little girl." A quick look was tossed up to his mate.
Following his sister's lead, the little boy waddled out of the den farther, and quickly made his way to the shelter of his mom's shadow. He looked up at his father wide-eyed, but didn't have the same reaction as his sibling, though he was just as unfond of seeing the male. The antlers, more specificly, were just down right odd. He screwed up his eyes a little, trying to make the offesnive head piece go away by blurring his vision. When he was still there, however, the pup was left with no choice but to look up at his mother and whine patheticly. Turning to his sister, he looked at her as if to say, 'Now what in the heck is that guy doing next to Mom?'

Midori lowered her head to run her tongue gently over the little female, making a contented whimper in her throat to offer the infant reassurance even as she buried her little face into her mother's side. When Gustave spoke, she stood before nosing the pup gently towards her father. Without her mother's side as a hiding place, the pup had to face the other adult at some point. The mother's red eyes darted up once she caught the sound of her second pup stumbling from the cool den to join the adults above ground. Smiling at the little form, she moved forward the also nose the tiny male pup towards his father, "Come now, little ones. This is your father."

For a moment, the little pup fought desperately to push against her mother's nudging, until she realized that she was nowhere near as strong as Midori. So she curled herself into a tiny ball and squeezed her eyes closed. She curled there and quivered until she heard words spoken to her. Hey there, little girl. The pup gently opened one oversized eye and blinked, fluttering her long eyelashes at the giant creature before her. Her tiny nose wiggled as she took a sniff. Instinct kicked in immediately. It was daddy! Her baby blue eyes opened wide and she slowly uncurled from her little ball and stumbled to her little paws. Rising up, she planted her two tiny forepaws onto Gustave's nose to stare bewilderedly at his towering antlers, and before long, she had clambered onto his muzzle entirely, with her forepaws on Daddy's forehead and her hind paws trying desperately not to slip off of what she now realized was too long and slim a muzzle to be much of a platform for her to stand on.

Gustave was dumb struck by his little girl's gesture at first, standing stock still with her scrambling on his face. After a few moents, however, a deep smile grew on his maw. Any nerves that had been left were instantly gone, blown away by the simple breath of a winged pup. His gaze turned warmly towards his mate, and then back to the tiny creature's head. "Aren't you adorable, my little girl." A wave of affection swept over him as he gently touched his nose to the ground for her to slide off. It couldn't be terribley comfortable trying to balance on such a narrow snout. "Have you any name ideas, Midori?" He glanced back up at the gorgeous green female, positive that she had thought over the subject for quite a while already. He hadn't really done much pondering on the topic, though he was now thinking that they needed something fit to their amazing looks. Their daughter was so beautiful, like her mother, and their son was so handsome.
Lacking the same confidence levels as his sister, the male hung back a bit. He, too, had realized just who this horned giant was, but he wasn't as quick to show his affections. Instead, he smiled up warmly from the ground, plopping his little behind into the cool dirt. The sun was finally growing weaker, much to his prefferance, and his eyes were no longer squinting. A sweeping glance around the area prooved it to be a jungle; even though it was really a simple garden. He couldn't really say or think that he was eager to explore, at least not with his sister. In the short time that they had been alive, he had grown attatched to her. If she was there, he was fine. If she was calm, he was relaxed. Such is the bond between littermates.

At the mention of names, Midori frowned. She had thought of names, and in her heart of hearts had already been referring to the little pups by them. Though she knew eventually the three of them would have to leave the comfort of the den together, she had worried that Gustave would not like the names she had come up with as much as she had grown attach to them. Granted, seeing the pups in a more accomodating light brought forth many more ideas, but her heart was still set on the old ones. Hesitating, she tilted her head to one side as she regarded first the boy and then the girl before raising her gaze to her mate. She knew he wouldn't be angry and would be willing to discuss it, but the idea still gave her pause, "I have." Looking to the boy, her smile soon returned, "I had thought to name him Terbu." She glanced at Gustave before looking to the tiny female, "And she, Chor." She waited for his reaction, scarlet eyes darting upward to catch whatever flicker of expression he offered.

The pup mewled slightly in protest as Daddy's muzzle tilted and she tumbled gently onto the ground in a tiny heap of wings and paws. She giggled slightly as she worked to untangle herself, and was soon right back up on her paws, her little rump shaking with her tail as it wagged at high speed. She blinked her big blue eyes - the color of the bluest day - twice as she squinted against the slowly fading sun to get a good look at her father.
Although she was obviously the slightly bolder of the two, her courage seemed to seep away at the thought of leaving her mother for too long to play with her father, and so with a last look and babyfaced grin up at the antlered Malu, she toddled back to Midori, her eyes trained on the ground as if trying to keep herself from tripping on her own paws and hooves.

At the mention of his name, Terbu looked up at his mom with a proud smile. Yup, that was him. Why his name had been said, he wasn't certain. Either way... it was him, which meant he had to look up, right? A pup's logic. After his sister's retreat, he seemed to pick up a short burst of courage, and moved towards his father. His large black eyes seemed to glass over as he stared at the impressive antlers, trying to decide what to make of him. After a few moments of intensive thought, he gave the larger male a passing grade and uttered a sort of gruntish yip for approval. Though affection wasn't his strongest color, he managed to nudge his father's leg a little before backing up to stare at him once again.
"Terbu and Chor." Gustave let the names sink in for a few moments, watching the pair waddle around. They were fitting names, he mused silently. He had honestly hoped for a go-getter son and a girly daughter, but it was aparent already that he had quite the opposite. Chor seemed more confident, while Terbu preferred to hang back and wait for certin comfort levels to be reached. With a smile, he looked back up at his mate. She looked so unsure of herself. "Love the names, babe. They're the perfect fit. Couldn't have done better myself." As he finished, Terbu came up towards him and did his bit. Well, at least bot of his children accepted him as semi-safe now. It all just seemed to unreal for the new father, he could hardly say a word. It was so... perfect.

With a blink of her large scarlet eyes, any hesitation dissipated as she stepped forward to run her head beneath her mate's chin in a brief nuzzle. Her expression was obviously contented, happy to be in the dying sunlight with her mate and children. Midori was the type of malu to take things in stride, but with the lives of her children and mate also in her hands now she was beginning to look more toward the future in the quiet moments between awareness and sleep. The thoughts gave her pause, but for the most part she continued as as she always had, keeping her thoughts to herself mostly as she went about her business raising her infants. Lowering her gaze to the pups as she settled next to Gustave, she gave a quiet sigh as she let her shoulders relax. "I'm glad you like the names. They're good pups, hopefully they won't become too much of a handful now that they'll be coming out of the den."

Chor yipped in protest as her mother moved, so she had to waddle after her again, almost tripping more than once in the short distance she had to cover between herself and what she considered was close enough to mom. Once she reached the green maluless, the little pup promptly dropped her rump onto the ground, as if the walk had exhausted her. She threw back her tiny head, her muzzle opening in what seemed to be a yawn. Her tongue curled, and then a sound came out that may have sounded something like "Dah," and she snuggled up against her mother, looking up with a little grin as her name was mentioned. "Dah," She seemed to say again, and she flopped her little head onto her mother's paw. Ah, the perfect pillow. Only a few weeks ago, she had almost been small enough to curl up on Midori's paw. She had by far outgrown that by now, although it always served perfectly as her pillow.

With a pleasant look on his face, Terbu managed to pluck up the courage to move a little away from his small family. He walked several pup-paces away from them, towards a monsterly large bush. At least, it was monsterly large from his perspective. In actuality, it was a nice, medium sized plant with pleasant blossoms and broad leaves. The teal pup pushed back on his hind again, balancing to bring his muzzle near one of the greens. In a very ungraceful move, he jumped less than an inch from the ground and grabbed at the leaf with his mouth. Even quicker than he had jumped, he crashed back to the earth, a partial leaf jutting from his teeth. With a sort of proud gleam in his eye, the pup turned back around and pranced towards his family. As if the work had exauhsted him, he collapsed beside his sister, using her rump for his pillow. Slowly, his jaw chewed on the leaf, almost like a piece of gum. Ah, life was good.
Gustave smiled warmly and nuzzled his mate as she settled beside him. His gaze swept over their surroundings. It was the place they had started to really fall for eachother, the place they had decided to stay together forever. And now, it was the place that they were to raise their litter. The thought was sort of daunting, really. It meant that he was really a father, and that he was no longer just in charge of his own life. He now had two little ones to help keep alive, and a mate to assist in all aspects of life. Perhaps things would get easier with time? No matter how hard it would be, though, he knew it would be worth it. Watching Chor and Terbu lie in front of their mother brought images of the future to his mind. This was truely the way he wanted to live. "They're so perfect, Midori."
