well....do you mean working religions? The native americans did not have one truly major figure in theirs. Sure, they had the Creator, but he's only mention by he created the world and every thing on it. Wicca (i think) has two center figures, the God and Goddess (please don't shoot me if I got that wrong).

Christians seems to be begging for slavehood because most of them would run and and do what 'God' tells them to do without another thought. I think that is a little stupid. But that's just me.

Due to the large number of pagan religions with multiple gods, I would say that it is more likely to find a religion with multiple important figures. Even Christianity has multiple important figureheads, the tri-god, The Virgin Mary, etc.

Secondly, when you talk about such figureheads, do you mean as in a god, or as in an important "person?" If you mean as in a godlike figure, it is important to note, that most buddhists do not view Buddha as a god, they view him as a person, what seperates him from others is he was the first person to attain Nirvana.

My first inclination here is to agree, but I'd like to see a statistical comparisson first before drawing any solid conclusions on this idea. It is true that monotheism is a relatively new invention in terms of religious history and you would think that because of that, polytheistic systems with multiple figureheads would be more common. I'm sure there's a good analysis on this somewhere.

Is it me or do most major monotheistic religions have a god, and no goddess. It doesn't seem logical because without women, men would not be able to propagate. It seems to back to the ancient belief that men are better than women (although we know we are equals).

Of course it isn't logical from some standpoints, but since when was religion a discipline of logic? But then, it seems quite illogical to assign sex or gender to the divine in the first place, as the universe is almost entirely devoid of sex and gender.

1. Logic need not necessarily apply to said god.
2. How we visualize the god has no bearing on whether or not that god has a sex.
3. Keep in mind times and culture. For example, in ancient Hebrew times, men were considered more perfect than women, as such, it would only be logical for them to give a god who is believed to be perfect, the male sex reference.
4. Monotheistic could, in no way incorporate both a god and a goddess. Furthermore, your point about the men - women = no procreation, the same goes for women - men = no procreation (unless you want to throw in cloning).
5. Not all monotheistic religions state that we are born of the god (as in the way we are born of other humans). Take a computer program for instance, only one person is needed to write the program.

Well, dear. Most religions need a figure to look up to. Its how most and maybe all religions start.

I don't se to many exampels wher a religon isnt based on someone or something to lead the people that beleav in it. What els would it be? Just thoughts wihtout action.

I think it is nice to have a central figure to look up to that you know will help you.

I think that a central figure is nice too. But that is what religion is all about, right? Who you want to be like, you follow. Enlightened like Buddha, Perfect like Christ, Loving like God, etc...
