(FYI Faile is currently residing in the packlands as Jaxom's mate, if not as an official pack member...yet?)
Faile panted softly as she trudged back into the den she'd been sharing with her Jaxom, hunger sated from the kill he had downed. It hadn't been much, a few rabbits, but his effort warmed her heart. It wasn't easy to hunt alone, and she'd quickly become useless in the hunt as her belly swelled. Wonder at the thought of new life inside her mingled with the shame of being so helpless, but love for her mate won over all.
Grunting, she lowered herself to the ground, gratefully taking advantage of a moment to rest. The pups within her were becoming more and more active, but they seemed quiescent for now. Closing her eyes, Faile started to drift into a light sleep.
She woke to pain.
Yelping as the first contraction rippled through her without warning, ripping her into full awareness, the jet shewolf fought to calm herself, calm her breathing. She was not about to die, she was young and strong, but dear alphas above it HURT! "Jaxom," she whimpered, not knowing if he was near but wanting his presence, his protection. "Jaxom where are you?!"

Several freshly killed rabbits hung from his maw as he strode towards the den with a collected and sauntering stride. It was more than evident that his mate was pregnant and the rabbits he had cauught earlier just wasn't enough to tie over an expecting mother whatsoever. The tawny and carrot colored male had ventured out on another hunt and, this time, had managed to even more rabbits. They were small, yes, but it would give him enough time to regain his strength and endure another trip later on.
Coming only a few steps from the entrance, the beta's ears perked forwards and up as the sweet, soothing voice of his mate rang out. "Faile!" He replied, a bit muffled as his maw was wrapped around flesh and fur. Was she okay? What was happening? Wasting no time, Jaxom ran inside the small den and headed straight towards his mate.
Dropping the kills before her as fur from the rabbits clung to his maw, Jaxom whimpered softly, his ears folding backwards, as he nuzzled against his mate.
"I'm here love, I'm here," he whispered in a comforting and soothing manner as a rumble sounded from his chest. Settling his serene, emerald orbs upon his mate, Jaxom smiled warmly.
"Is it time?" He chuckled softly, anxious and excited as he would soon become a father, and planted a tender kiss upon her maw.

Breath coming in small short pants, the dark shewolf pressed her head against Jaxom's chest with a whimper, taking momentary comfort from his presence. Right after he spoke, another contraction rippled through her body, causing her to growl in pain and reflexively bite down on the nearest thing.
Which just happened to be Jaxom's chest.
It was a long moment before she let go, glancing up at him apologetically. "It hurts..." she whimpered. Sweat was starting to mat her fur as she labored, silent aside from her heavy breathing and the occasional growl at a contraction. Long minutes passed.
Finally, the first of the litter entered the world, squirming to break free of his birthing sac. Faile turned her head, deftly and gently tearing the membrane open with her fangs and busily licking the little male clean, sensing that her reprieve before the next would be brief.

His ears perked forwards, body becoming tense and ridged. The mood about them changed as his mate began panting, pain flashing upon her expressions upon her maw as each growl seemed to ring within his ears. Jaxom winced slightly, ears swiveleing back as he kept his composure but Failes bite packed a punch.
Looking down upon her with calm, serene eyes who couldn't hold an ounce of malice or pain. "I know love, I know," he whispered, lowering his head down and nuzzling against her, a soft soothing rumble emitting from his chest, "You're doing great." Faile was strong, that was evident- but it was hard to see her in so much pain and enduring such physical straining. No matter what, Jaxom would stand beside her and be her support- even if she had to use him as a reflex chew toy.
His tail twitched anxiously behind him as he took a step closer, eyes trailing towards the small bundle of life that his mate held close to her. A wide, broad, grin spread across his maw. Was- was that his son? He knitted his brows as he looked upon the pup. He was just like his father! a deep, rich brown with the same orange hue that was spread out across his body.
Jaxom had a son.
Nuzzling close to his jet black mate, Faile, Jaxom tenderly kissed her upon his maw. "What will his name be?"

Weary and pained, Faile grasped at the first name that came to mind. "Fenuku," she murmured, just before the contractions resumed. Whimpering softly, she was glad to note that it seemed to be becoming easier, as her muscles started to fall into a steady rythym. The second pup, a small dark female, slipped forth quickly, and Faile started to minister to her the same treatment that had been given to her firstborn. She was slightly confused at first when the apparent mud refused to wash free, and then panted a soft, embarrased laugh as she realized it was the pup's true coloring. "And she will be...Vashti," she said, looking up at her love as she braced for the next. She was not done yet, no. She'd just begun.

"Fenuku," the tawny and carrot colored male repeated with proud ring sounding within his voice. "My son." Pressing his head against his mates, Jaxom rumbled a deep, soothing tone as he drew his maw close to his mates ear and nibbled gently upon it.
He was a father!
Jaxom had sought determined to find a mate and he had found the perfect wolfess. Faile was flawless; she was gorgeous and her optimisim and personality was magnetic! Each kiss that she presented him with, her delicate touch against his fur and her soft whispers caressed and provoked such strong emotions that seemed as if his whole body was consumed in the thought of being unstoppable and unbreakable- Jaxom felt as if he could do anything as love was drowning his senses and tugging at his heart. Love had found him his eternal companion and was soon to bless them with their own family.
As Faile began another set of contractions, Jaxom's ears perked forwards. It was then that he watched another of their pups come forth into the world but, this time, it was a female. It was his daughter.
A warm, tender smile spread wide across his maw. "Vashti," he chuckled softly, his emerald eyes dancing upon his daughters small body. She had her mother's jet black coat but a deep, earthy brown also inahbited her pelt as well. The small female was simply gorgeous and Jaxom had always wanted a daughter and to have one that bore her mothers beauty with a twist of his brown could only make him smile. "She is just as ravishing as you, love," he whispered softly, his tounge gracing her maw with a sweet kiss.

The next set of contractions struck hard and quickly, barely giving Faile time to give her mate a swift nuzzle before she whined and laid back once more. Breath coming in harsh fast pants, she grunted as each powerful contraction came, digging claws into the dirt beneath her. After finally pushing the next pup free from her body, she wearily turned her head to clean him.
"Eiros..." she murmured, then whimpered in pain as another contraction hit. It seemed the next pup wasn't in any mood to be patient, not at all. She growled softly in irritation and pain. Couldn't it have waited, just enough for her to catch her breath? It was almost with an air of crankiness that the last pup was brought forth, and she wasted little time ripping the birthing offal away before laying back, panting heavily. "Three sons...and a daughter..." she said faintly, simply relieved to have a break, if it wasn't over yet.

Nuzzling deeply into her ruff of fur, Jaxom rumbled soothingly and drew closer towards her as his mate began to pant faster with the next set of contractions. His body was curled around Failes from the back, his cheek pressing against hers as he watched with anticipation as well as being her support system. "Come on, love," he whispered softly as he licked her muzzle, "you can do it."
As the next pup emerge and Faile hastily cleaned the small ball of fur, his is ears perked forward as a broad, warm smile drew across his maw. Another son! This time there were no traces of orange upon his fur while the brown was a rich, dark hue with shadows of black. His tail thumped behind him merrily as he pressed his nose against his mates.
"Eiros," he repeated- the sound of his name ringing with a fine sensation off the tounge.
Time to look upon his new son seemed to be cut short as his mate grolwed with the commencing of yet another set of contractions. Was it really a rush to come out into the world?
Jaxom smiled warmly as the last pup emerged. His pelt was just like his mothers- jet black, except as he looked closer, the smile that inhabited the tawny and carrot colored males maw suddenly dissapeared into utter shock and a twist of slight fear while his ears fell flat against his skull. Those were swirls- just like his brother, Damu. And those bands upon his paws were just like his brothers as well. But his white paws and tipped tail- those were trademarks of his father except they were orange. Was this a mockery of him? Was this a curse? Those swirls- Damu's swirled markings and bands were upon his son. Perhaps this was how karma was suppose to deal with the feud between he and Damu; this was Jaxom's punishment for ever bloodlusting and creating a treason against him.
Perhaps through this son. Jaxom's eyes could be opened more fully into reconnecting with his brother, Damu.
For so long Jaxom heart had been burdend with the despise and loathing of his older brother for what he had done in the past. But, as any wolf would come to learn within ones life, that there was no sense in wasting ones time living within the faded memories and reveling in the hatred of something that had happened and something that could never be altered. Damu had abandoned the pack when humans were storming through the packlands and, as a result, the packlands were torched and all of its members were killed. Reguardless, Jaxom still loved his brother but since their last meeting for the first time, their sorrows and heavy burdens had clashed and had torn the two further apart.
The tawny and carrot colored male still needed to make amends with his brother.
Jaxom bit his lower lip as shame seemed to wash over him. He didn't know how exactly the pup would behave, what his personality would be like, but all he could predict was that he needed to learn to love his own son as best he could.
And this would be difficult.
"Dax," he nearly choked, as sparse tears trailed from his emerald eyes. "We'll name the black and white swirled boy Dax, if that's okay with you love."

Hearing something...different...in her mate's voice, Faile turned her head, jade eyes flicking inquiringly to his own. It was a further surprise to see tears. Had she erred somehow, did he feel disappointed? Her own gaze became anxious. "Of course that's alright, love...but...what's the matter?"

Stifling the tears from falling, the tawny and carrot colored male peered up towards his mate and shook his head. "It's not your fault, love," he quickly soothed, brows furrowing as he was trying to compile in his mind how it was best to approach such a raw subject whose wounds had yet to heal. "Faile, there- there's something I haven't told you," he trembled, slightly as he was biting his lip and silently pleading that this wouldn't be too disasterous and detrimental.
"You see the swirls that Dax has? Those bands upon his paws? They are exactly like my brother, Damu's, markings."
Even saying his brother's name brought great remorse and weighed heavy upon his heart. Damu wasn't the only one at fault or the single cause for their tumultious past and bloodlust against one another- Jaxom was just as well to blame.
"When our pack was under attack by humans, Damu was the one to stand watch and howl of warning when they were approaching. But you see, the pack members despised him- he was cold and heartless because no one, except myself and my parents, showed love to him or respected him even if he was the one to take our fathers place as Alpha. When those humans came, he fled and from our packs there were no survivors as-" he stammered as he bit down harder upon his lip. Trails of tears poured from his emerald eyes as he pawed at his face to clear his eyes from being so distorted and blurred. Intaking a deep breath, Jaxom continued.
"-as the whole pack, including our parents, were killed."
His body trembled, shaking as the horrible memories seemed to flood back into his mind. Those terrible thoughts, those horrific scenes that had lurked at the back of his mind for so long were resurfacing once again. It was if he could still hear the shrill and mourning howls echoing within his ears, ringing with a haunting presence.
He had yet to make amends with the past.
"After he fled, we were separated from each other for so long and it was several months, almost a year, since we last saw each other but even that meeting did not go so well. Because of our anger, our loss and our grieveances that had pent up within each of us for so long we had lost our rationality and attacked one another. I was angry and I couldn't show my love for him because I let my bitter emotions get in the way. During the kerfuffle, his mate was injured and he threatened me that if I ever saw him again, he couldn't promise that I would not be left unharmed."
Looking towards the small black and white swirled pup, Jaxom closed his eyes and let a sigh escape from his maw. "His pelt is just like Damu's only in revers, and looking at him makes the need to make amends with my only brother a priority and a must." Glancing back towards his mate, Jaxom let his ears fall against his skull as a low, sorrowful whine escaped his maw as he buried his muzzle within her ruff.
"Forgive me, Faile. I was going to tell you but I didn't know when I could find the courage to."

Faile listened silently, although part of her wanted to howl with grief over even a recounting of such a story. While she had merely returned to death...Jaxom had found both death and betrayal. She wasn't sure how she would have dealth with it...she fought to blink back tears of her own at the thought. With a soft, sympathetic whine, she laid her head over his neck, tilting it as she kissed away his tears. "Shhh, shhh, it's alright," she murmured. "I'm not sure I could have spoken of such a thing so soon myself, especially if I thought I'd never see the other again." Giving the now-nursing pups a glance, she nipped ever so gently at his ear. "What do you say...once the pups are stronger, we'll go find this Damu. The exercise would do us all good, and they should know they have family."

His eyes continued to flood with tears as the memories, the past and the haunting recollections seemed to pierce his very soul and forever become embedded within his mind. Damu had not intentionally gone to betray the pack for his like, much like Jaxom's, was never easy and was full of grief, pain and suffering. The tawny and carrot colored male couldn't hold malice or anger against his brother as only his heart was weighed with sadness for never actively seeking him to make amends and to make things right once again. But the time would come.
Feeling his mates tender and sympathetic kisses against his cheeks, Jaxom stifled a small whine as he nuzzled against her, keeping his body nestled up against hers as he buried his head once again within her ruff of jet black fur.
"I never wanted it to be like this, love," he whispered, tilting his head slightly as he planted a tender kiss upon her maw. "I want to make everything right again and I want Damu to forgive me- I have forgiven him and don't hold him accountable anymore, I never should have held him guilty." Shifting his paws to topple over those of Faile's, Jaxom leaned against her as his tail swayed upon the ground back and forth in a slow, somber motion. He wanted to find Damu and his mate, Taima, again and make everything right.
As his mate spoke and nibbled upon his ears, Jaxom perked his head upwards to the sudden idea. "Really? We'd go find my brother and his mate and meet their kids too?" Furrowing his brows as he looked over towards Dax who was nestled close to Fen alongside Vashti and Eiros, the tawny and carrot colored male nodded his head as a warm, sweet smile trailed across his maw slowly.
"Yes, once the pups are old enough we'll find them. You can meet Taima, his mate, and we can see how many kids they have. Hopefully enough for all of our pups to play with," he chuckled softly, nuzzling deeper into his mate as his eyes were growing heavy.
"I'll be able to finally make things right."

"Yes, yes you will." Faile's jade eyes shone with love and pride, both for her mate who would face his brother despite the past, and the pups newly into the world, who would know they had family other than their parents and siblings. She tilted her head, a mischeivous grin crossing her dark maw and eyes sparkling. "And you would be preparing to do this even if you didn't say you would, you know why?"
She paused only a moment to allow him to guess before blithely continuing, "Because I have no family but yours now. You, these pups, your brother, his mate, you are my family. And I will not leave a brother unknown, not after I've lost everyone else." Laying her head atop his and her own paws, her tone was weary but firm. "If I had to entreat them to come to us, on my own, I would."
Tired with the length of her little speech and her earlier efforts, she fell silent, slowly starting to doze off into a peaceful sleep. She was little troubled about the future meeting with her mate's brother. After all, they were family. Perhaps knowing some weren't as lucky as they to have surviving blood relatives, they might be less loath to make amends.

Raising his head upwards to level his emerald orbs much like his mates, Jaxom gaped his maw slightly open as his ears flickered. He couldn't help but listen, biting his lower lip as thoughts and scattered emotions seemed to wall up inside of him but eased aside. Jaxom knitted his brows and tilted his head in curiosity? He knew he had to make amends but knowing Faile would force him into it only made him grin and chuckle softly.
But before he could respond, the grin upon his maw seemed to dissapate as a somber, disheartened expression seemed to take its place.
"Faile," he spoke softly as he nuzzled tenderly against her, rumbling a soothing and empathetic tone, "I'm so sorry to hear that, love. I can assure you that my mind's made up and and you should not have to be barred from meeting the rest of our family. Gazing into her eyes as he rested his head besides his mate, Jaxom smiled warmly.
"We will mend our broken ties- Damu and I, I promise."
Nuding her softly but finding that his mate had fallen captive into sleep, Jaxom nestled closer and planted a tender kiss upon her maw. "Night love." Following behind, Jaxom fell captive into sleeps binding graps alongside his mate and their new family.
