.--------.

I've always wanted to make my own website, but the whole thing that turns me off is the fees. I could be cheap and pay 20 bucks or whatever to use freewebs... but who does that?
And plus, my parents most likely wouldn't be for the idea.

Do you know of any places where I could get a .com/.net/.Whatever domain name?

Also, I used to use .Tk, but that has the annoying bar on the top.

In otherwords, I'm looking for a free host.

I'd be willing to post in a forum too, if they gave free hosting and servers.

Otherwise, I'd love to team up with someone. I know HTML and I'm learning CSS right now. Also, if someone could scrape up a good PHP and Flash tutorial for me, that'd be great.

THANKS! biggrin

There is a PHP introduction in the Tips subforum.

As for host, I recommend you buy one, free hosts always fail. I got mine at dreamhost and you can find a $97 discount for it. That is around $24 for a host and domain name.

Free .com/.net/.org?

rofl

Good luck with that wink .

I pay around $70 dollars a year for mine (including hosting) from GoDaddy. If you do want to pay, get GoDaddy. Their service sucks but the chick in their commercials is banging hot.

I'm learning html now. I think I have the very basics down good. But I've got a ways to go. I am looking for a free server also. So if anyone knows of one, please let me know.

The thing about free hosting and free domain names is that it costs the company money to host a website or register a domain name, and companies like making profits, so you'll probably get stuck with advertisements splattered all over your website.

One interesting host is NearlyFreeSpeech.NET, where you only pay for what you actually use. A small website could cost pennies a month (or less), but a really big one would cost a lot more.

15 euros is close to 20 USD, which isn't very good.

Try Free Web Hosting Talk its owned by Web Hosting Talk which is a huge forum. If you are willing to spend a little money you can easily get a domain for around $10 a year from godaddy and hosting for a few dollars a month.

Surfspeedy.com $6.95/month for 50Gb space and 1000Gb of bandwidth.
Resellerzoom.com $6.95/month for 4000Mb and 60Gb of bandwidth (they give less but the reason i listed them is if you have friends you could split the bill and host up to 20 sites.

I know of several other companies as well but these two are the ones I have had the most success. If you would like to look for better bargains and prices to go webhostingtalk.com and go do advertisement then hosting. When you find a deal you are happy with then do a search for reviews on that company to make sure they have a reputable background. I usually try to find one with 1 out of 10 good reviews which is hard due to most people only post bad and good ones are few and far between.

Another thought is to make money through paypal selling web work and then use that profit to pay for your domain and hosting.

These are just a few ideas of ways to get started without forking out a lot of money.

For webhosting, I would totally recommend my friend Jess, her webhosting company is Surnaturelle. The servers are quite reliable (I owned the same reseller package she did for over a year.) And she's great, and she'll -definitely- not just crash out on you, as she's been in the 'scene' for quite awhile now. smile

She does have a free webhosting package, though I'm not sure what the details are.

Also there are some of those referral sites and such that give away free domain names, if that interests you at all. You can buy cheap domain names that have already been created from forums and such.

My domain name is bought using GoDaddy, I originally bought it through Jenn at jenn.nu but when she.. disappeared when I needed a quick renewal, I figured it'd be safer to just transfer it over. More expensive, but also more reliable.

www.ayksolutions.com

host mine. The Shared Bronze package is $6.95 a month, and you can also pay bi-yearly and anually. With all the shared packages, you get a free domain name. THe space is 900mb, 200(or 20, not looking at it right now) GB. they also have---I think I'll just bring in a link for shared.....

The first lists are the budget plans, cheap but not very much... The second row of three is the Shared plans, look at those.
