Hey guys. I'm in experimental psych, and I need to think of some ideas for an experiment. I'm really bad at being creative...so could you guys help me out? Just toss around ideas. Anything would be appreciated heart

Pick nine subjects. Dose the kool-aid of three of them with LSD without telling them. Dose another set of three and tell them. Don't dose the last three and tell them you did.

Anything would be appreciated heart Like, sociological experiments or what? A couple ideas: Pick four people, two guys and two girls. Get a friend of yours to make a recipe and do it badly (like, bad taste, but good presentation). Tell the people (one by one) before they go in to the room to eat the dish that your friend is really good cook. Eat it with them and pretend to be enjoying it and monitor their responses. See if they're honest about the taste or if they play along for the sake of not hurting your friend's feelings. Might be interesting. Also you might want to be sitting in a room talking with them and have a pre-recorded tape or something of a specific news story that might get them started. What you could do is start talking to them, and when the program starts, turn your head over your shoulder to take a look at what's on the screen. This will interest them in whatever is on the screen and they may become interested. If you notice them looking past you, you could ask them what's up and monitor their responses. See if they blow over it and say 'Nothing', or see if they open up about the subject the news program is covering. Those are just rough ideas, I'm not a psych major. sweatdrop

For the assignment, there really aren't any guidelines. I mean, I know enough as to how to run experiments and interpret the data and what statistical tests to run, it's just coming up with an idea. To me, something along the lines of behavior would be the most interesting, and would probably have enough literature on.

I'll think on this a little and get back to you maybe in a day with any ideas I come up with. I've already got a few basics, but I wanna make em presentable before I wheel em out.

Not sure when by.
My idea was something that involves the perception of mortality before, immediately after, and a few weeks after seeing some form or media (testing both fictional and non-fictional clips). I would basically hypothesize that the immediate perception of mortality would be effected, but long term would not (given the fact that the sample pool would be college student, most in their late teens or 20s.)
I have to clean it up more.

If you can act convincingly, you could try to study how people respond to pain in others.
Get a mixed group of subjects in there under one pretense and while you're conducting the false survey, act like you have a hurt shoulder or something. Watch to see how many, and who averts their eyes or otherwise tries to avoid seeing it, see how many and who ask about it or try to help and whether it seems to be due to concern or social obligation, and see if anyone responds in a manner implying that they might feel sympathetic pain.
