Guns, Germs and Steel, definately. A great exploration of why some human societies evolved and others didn't. Examples are the native animals and the landscape the society lived in.

I have also heard good things about "Guns, Germs, and Steel"
my grade 12 History teacher always refered to it, and had it available to borrow in class, although i never got the chance to read it

I also find that learning about women in history, is very interesting, so i mght go with something like "Warrior Women"

but other than that, i have not heard of these books before

i hope this helps in your decision

I've heard good things about Guns, Germs, and Steel as well. Other than that I haven't really heard about the other books. I don't have time to read the whole list so I just skimmed it but I doubt I've read any of those books.

My Modern World History teacher is in love with Guns, Germs, and Steel. xp Like Not.So.Little. said it explores why some people developed faster than others and why there is inequality in the world because of that. I've only read the intro (because of a certian teacher whee ) but it seems like it'd be a good book. 3nodding
