Zagaa'Tamanio was inside of the room laced with furs. The room that her and her siblings had spent much of their time in before they could see. It reeked though, the smell was one that she did not like. It was the smell of the tyrant that had had his way with her mother. A soft growl escaped her before she made her way out of the room.
Oh how she couldn't wait to get out of this damned place.
The young cub knew very well that without Nyekundu, her father, around that the place was as good as dead. With her father dead there was nothing holding the pride together, he had installed fear into almost everyone's souls. There were few that did not fear him, such as her mother.
Her mother.......
When would she be back?
How much longer did they have to stay here in this forsaken place?
Why did she leave in the first place?
How much longer can she care for her family without breaking down?
Those thoughts swirled in her mind as she wandered the oasis, past the spring of clear water, past the jagged parts of crumbled buildings until she came upon the standing stone. It always amazed the lion cub how they standed on their own, with no support what so ever.
As she inhaled she could smell her father, a few different females and one scent that mattered the most to her.
Her mother's scent.
Letting out a sigh the green striped cub walked among the stones.

A large amount of swearing could be heard from amongst the rocks, the mostly white cub crawling amongst them after one of the feathered kind that had tried to hide themselves amongst the stone structures. However, from the sounds of things, Lake was -not- winning the war against the avian species.
"Get. Back. Here. You. Son. Of. A. b***h!!" she yelled, pouncing where the poor INNOCENT little bird was TRYING to poke for food. Unfortunately for it, the white lioness landed RIGHT on it, paws pinning it down. "Ah! HA HA HA HA!" she decreed, holding the bird down until it stopped struggling against her 'pure' colored paws.
Feh, she should have been blessed with different coloration, in the least.
Red marked ears turning forward to see if there were anymore noises coming from the avian, she grinned in GLEE when the feathered nuisance stopped MOVING and moved her paws from it, checking to make sure she'd thoroughly smothered it.
Once Lake was assured the bird had indeed kicked the bucket, she dug her teeth into it's still warm body, ripping it apart and dripping blood all over herself as she ate the poor creature.
Thus, by the time Tama would have wandered on to her, the white and red lioness had obtained more of the red on her nose, mouth, paws, and chest than she had that morning, as well as being surrounded by bloody pawprints and smears of the remains of the bird around her.
"............"
Lake didn't seem to care how it looked, though and continued to chow on a feather that had stuck itself irritably between her teeth.

When the oldest of the litter, if only by a few seconds or minutes, came upon her some what younger sister she was left speechless. Her mind drew a blank and everything that she had been thinking prior to this was lost.
Yellow eyes widened at the mess that was Lake. Her maw opened to speak but shut quickly afterwards, all words lost. The cub moved close to her red marked sister.
"Ah.................."
There was something she wanted to talk about but another mind blank on her left her once more, speechless.
She thought back to the talk she had had with her other green marked sister, Misae.
"Lakeisha?"
Tama managed this time without fail.
"Would you walk with me for a little?"

She was fully aware that she was being stared at, to which Lake made a face, crinkling her nose and sitting. She lifted one of her blood-covered paws, licking away at what was left of the bird on it.
"What?" she snapped, rather disapprovingly of the look she got, before turning her attention back to her paws, doing rather well of a job to clean her fur with a certain degree of contentment.
Lake attempted to ignore her 'sister' (to which she herself was even in denial of relation to. They only thing they had in common was WHITE. And that wasn't much to go on..). As she licked over her paw-pads, she looked up at Tama as her name was said, waiting until the green-striped female spoke, before turning her attention back down to her paws.
"Walk with you? Why in the hell would I want to do that?" the mostly white girl snorted, switching paws once she was content with the cleanliness of her other paw.
She rose up after she was content with what she was able to clean, looking at the mess she'd made and admiring it a bit, then shaking her head, tilting her head the other way. Rinse and repeat. Times a bazillion.
"All there -is- to do here is walk. It's stupid."

If the green marked cub was annoyed or upset with Lake's behavior there were no signs of it. A deep breath was taken however by Zagaa'Tamanio. Her black tipped paws moved forward before freezing was if waiting for something to happen.
"I just wish to talk to you about actions we should take to keep ourselves alive until mother returns."
The older cub was prepared for the worst that her sister could say about their mother. For some reason Lake always seemed so negative, always looking to the worst instead of the good. Perhaps it was her imagination.
Clearing her throat she spoke again before the other had the chance to say a word.
"I understand that you may not believe that she will return, however I do not think that we are in any postion to be attempting to leave the oasis at this stage in our lives."
A pause so she could take a breath, her eyes never leaving the form of her sister.
"This place is a lost hope, nothing will save it from falling apart if some have not left already. You and I both know that. I just wanted to ask for your suggestions and opinions on the matter."
What else was there really to say? That they were all doomed and were going to die? That their mother probably wouldn't return?
No.
There was no way that she was going to let it come down to that. Malika just needed her space, she'd be back.
She'd have to come back.....Right?

Lake rolled her eyes and looked away as her 'sister' spoke, ears flattening back against her head in a bit of anger, before she looked back to Tama, leered a bit, then rolled her eyes and looked away again.
She opened her mouth to make a retort to Tama, but the other cub continued to speak again before Lake could get out anything trenchant. At least for now it would be impeding on her actions. Her entire expression darkened as the elder lion spoke, before the mostly-white cub rose to her feet and placed her paw over one of her bloody paw-prints.
Lake stared at the paw for a moment, before unsheathing her claws, their keratin tapping against the stone. Then, she dropped her paw again to the ground and turned her head to leer at the one who'd interuptted her 'fun'.
"Y'know. You're attitude isn't going to work out for you." she stated in possibly the nicest voice she had (probably forced herself to sound that way, however..), before she paced to turn in a circlular motion around her sibling, head held up high.
"Some big mean and smarter lion is going to take advantage of how trusting you are, Tama. And when that happens, I'll laugh. Because I told you so."
Lake used a paw to tousle the fur on her forehead.
"Because you try -SO- hard to be the 'big girl' of your family, and keep everybody together and safe. You're going to grow up to be boring, you know that right?"
There was a sudden loud laugh, as if this was amusing.
"And who TALKS that way, anyways? Or is this another one of your ways to try and prove that your dumb-a** 'frilly' and well-bred family of smartass idiots is better than me? Hmm?"
She smirked a bit, before hopping onto one of the rocks that were littered about, tail flicking a bit.
"You can wait for your mother to come back. Mine will come for me before she does."
Again looking away, she added with an amused smile. "And stop trying to make me believe we're related just because I happen to look like your siblings do. It's growing old."

White ears flattened against her skull at the words of her sister. Her expression was one of someone who had been deeply hurt emotionally. The female couldn't understand why Lake was so bitter towards everything.
She also couldn't understand why the almost completely white female refused to believe that they were related.
Lakeisha's attitude was really starting to piss Zagaa'Tamanio off. She may have her mother's temper most of the time but her anger was much like that of Nyekundu's.
"Maybe it's -YOUR- attitude that isn't going to work out for you." Tama retorted her anger begining to show. All she wanted to do was talk and -THIS- was how she was treated. It just goes to show that some people are quite the b***h.
"The only trust I have is in that of my family save for that damn tyrant. You think you know everything but you have no idea do you? Sure I may grow up to be boring but WHO CARES? As long as this family stays alive there is nothing wrong with turning out boring."
A very short pause as she fumed nearly shouting at the other.
"I'll talk however I feel like damnit! You are from my family wether you like it or not Miss attitude. I'm not trying to make you feel stupid, this is how I am so live with it!"
Uneven breathing could be heard from the green striped cub before she continued.
"How else are you going to explain how you look? There isn't a female in this pride that has the color of fur that you do or the markings. None of them have the same eye color either. And -HOW- do you explain the fact that we were all in the same room when we opened our eyes and first began to see right before -She- left us?"
"Oh and one more thing, how can you explain that both of our mothers disappeared the same time?"
This was an interesting arguement to say the least.

SMACK!!
One of Lake's paws was flung across Tama's face, her expression possibly even more terrifying than it had been when she'd been strangling the life out of the bird that now remained, partially, in her stomach. "Do you think I'm DEAF you little whore-wench? When you end up alone, it's your own damn fault for acting like you're better than everybody else and being an ignorant little t**t-b*****d."
The white cub narrowed her eyes a bit more, claws flexing angrily. One of her legs twitched, as if she wanted to reach out and claw the face of the other cub, but restrained herself from doing so.
"I've heard what these people have said of your 'father', woman. He was a cubnapper. I don't look like you, and I don't look like your sisters. I don't look like your mother either. Did you ever stop to think that your father could have 'picked me up' somewhere like he did with half of the other lions here? HMM? Just because we were born at the same time, does -not- mean I was related to you."
She didn't turn her back to Tama as she walked, pacing around the older cub.
"While we think about it, you did just contradict yourself, you stupid girl. You said yourself I don't look like anybody around here. I certainly didn't look like Malika. White fur means nothing, white is an absence of color that is quite common in Africa, as I would think."
Lake smiled, a sort of sadistic grin. "And you are simply a bird with a nest to tend to. You are a naiive little bird." The red-marked lioness smiled.
"I eat birds."

That smack really set her off and it took all of her will-power from striking back. Her claws however were extended to the point if provoked again she would attack regardless if they were related or not.
"You think I don't know that? I hate know that the b*****d was my father, don't you see only the older lionesses, the ones able to bare children aren't related to him. Ask around, I bet that there is someone here that can tell you who your parents are and I can garentee that ours are the same."
Her voice struggled to remain calm as she spoke doing her best to not lash out physically or verbally at the other.
"How do you know that Nyekundu isn't your father? How do you know she isn't your mother? Perhaps the red that is marked upon you comes from a lineage deeper than Malika and Nyek, have you thought that maybe it came from his mother or father or her parents?"
Her yellow eyes narrowed as she stared right back at the other.
"Your eyes are just like that of hers, and you don't see many with violet eyes now do you? I sure haven't even if I haven't gotten past the border, I have seen some creatures make their way here and so far none of them have the color eyes you or Malika do."
A snort then escaped her.
"All I tried to do was talk to you, to possibly figure out what the hell do to and you act like a little b***h, well fine, if thats how you want to act, you can go ahead and be all by yourself and die. See if I care."
With that she turned her ears poised and ready the moment the other might lash out. Then she began to walk away before turning her head back for a moment.
"Forgive me for trying to do something to atleast try to get along with you and help you survive, but it seems you have it covered with that bloody mess you made over there."
Her frame began to move once more making sure she was out of close contact reach and ready to move if lept at.

"Perhaps, as you say, my eyes came from somewhere not my parents as well. Perhaps your father didn't tell anybody where I came from." Lake pawed at the remains of the bird, before sweeping them with a paw at Tama, a sort of silent show of disrespect.
She smiled a bit and tilted her head to one side, a grin on her face.
"Besides. I've seen lions with my red color." Lake added, then snorted a bit. "I'd like to see you live on your own. I can do it just. fine. Go, fly back to your nest little birdy." she teased, finally turning her back to the other cub to walk away from her, head held high. Lake was superior to Tama. Or at least that was what she thought.
"And if you wish to use the logic of who my father is, or isn't.. how do you even know who your parents are? How do you know everybody isn't lying to you?"
Lake tilted her head to one side.
"The gods are looking out for me, Tama... you can wait for a lioness who may never return for you. She left you alone without too much of a problem. There isn't much to say about a mother who can't even take care of her kids. There isn't too much more to say about a lioness who can't handle that one. little. insignificant. peice. of the savannah. died.
Face it. You're mother is a lame reason to stay here. My mother will find me, and we'll leave here together. In fact, here's a bet. My mother will be red like I am, and she'll be MUCH prettier than yours. And she'll be here for me soon. She'll be HAPPY to see me. She'll understand."
The white cub walked out into the sand away from the striped cub that had came only to talk to her.
"You're a fool, Tama. You knew you wouldn't be able to change my mind, and you thought you could use your witchcraft over me to try and mold my mind into one of the mindless drones that follows you. You just think you're the best because you're the oldest of your litter."
Lake looked over her shoulder. "Now. If you'll excuse me. I'm going to go find -my- mom."

Tama shook her head in slight disgust.
What was the point in trying to prove to Lake what was the truth when she refused to believe it. "Fine. Whatever believe what you want. I know what is the truth." Tama was done trying. There was no longer a point in her trying to convince her red marked sister.
Then she heard the other words where Lake assumed that Tama thought she was better. "I don't think I'm better than any of you! So what if I'm the oldest of the litter? Who cares? All I've been trying to do is keep us all alive, even you!" That was the last straw.
Teeth clenched the green striped cub turned her back on her sister. Tama never looked back and only kept moving then....suddenly she felt really faint, exhausted. Luckily she was far enough away when she collapsed.
