Ekage was padding along, a bounce in his step, he was smiling, always a smile upon his maw. He was still wandering, still searching for a home, a friend, a companion, even if it was only for a few moments, he wished to not be alone. Ekage hated being alone by himself, he liked it when he made friend on his journey, then he could hope to meet them again. That would be truly wonderful, least thats what he believed in his mind.

The sky was so blue today, the sun wasn't scorching, it was just a nice day to be alive.

Unlike the padding male, there was another creature out on the savannah this day and she wasn't padding, she was streaking along over the ground. White paws slammed into the ground, barely leaving a mark despite her evident size, well... it would have been evident if she hadn't been moving so fast. Khepri's body had become all but a blur of crimson with a trickle of red that flew out behind her as her blood left the new gouges on both sides of her neck.

But she didn't care, there was a smile on her face as the female ran, claws in the ground as her muscles pushed her along, tail wagging and golden eyes dancing with a form of laughter as she shot along. Sure she appeared nothing but a blur, but anyone that looked at her might have been able to see the wings that were lifting her up as she ran. The wings that were pointing her towards the Ela', the wings that were lifting her up higher than she'd ever been since she had been a cub.

She'd discovered where they were, her life suddenly had meaning again, she wasn't going to die without finding them, she wouldn't die without finding out why she'd started to live in the first place.

A flash of red caught Ekage's eyes while he padded along. He stopped to look at it, so blurry and so bright! He couldn't tell what it really was, was it a cheetah? No, they weren't that big, but neither was any other lion he had seen. How strange, was it an immortal? That would be new. He tilted his head to the side and watched it move for a while, deciding on what to do.

A scent caught his attention, was that blood? Was the figure in trouble? Running away from something? Ekage began to pad forward a bit faster now, hoping to cross the paths of this streak of red, if they were in trouble, perhaps he could hlp them.

A white form caught in the side of Khepri's eye as she ran, trying to slow herself down so she wouldn't miss him. It was rude for someone to simply pass another by when they were in their direct lane of movement and the last thing Khepri was was rude.

Blinking her tarnished gold eyes, Khepri smiled at the snowy male and flashed her startling white teeth. He looked pretty, not that she'd EVER met a male anything like him before. It was almost strange to see a pure white lion out on the savannah, even she with her red and white blended in better than him. But then who was she to judge what was right based on color.

"Hallo cousin." Khepri said in her thick voice, a smile on her white muzzle.

"Hello stranger," Ekage said coming to a stop to have his deep brown orbs set on a bright red lioness. She was larger from most he had seen, but who was he to judge? Genes more likely, and he could not disrespect her or her family with assumptions. "Out for a run today? I am Ekage," he said with a bow of his head, some of his mane falling in his face, he then rose his head up again, blinked and smiled.

"It is a pleasure to meet you stranger, I must say, your shade of red is quite stunning."

"Sorta, Ah'm on mah way to finally finish mah search for the Ela'." Khepri said, her white chest puffing out in happiness. For the first time in months she knew where it was she was going, knew where it was she needed to be.

"Ah thank yo' cousin." Khepri smiled at him and nodded her fiery head brightly, her tail swishing from side to side, "Ah've nevah seen a white male before mahself. Yo're more stunnin' than Ah am."

Ekage smiled and flicked his tail, "The Ela? A pride no doubt? I'm glad you are almost done with your search, must be quite thrilling once you get there," he said with a nod. Yes, would be nice for someone such as Khepri or anyone for that matter to be overjoyed with ending what usually seems like an impossible search.

"No no, your so bright and unique, I'm just plain, no color on me makes me a bit dull I think," he said with a laugh.

"Yes, a pride. Ah 'eard from one o' the pride membah's o' mah old pride tha' the Ela' could 'eal mah 'ead. So Ah decided ta go an' see if they're real." Khepri smiled softly, she didn't want to let this male know exactly what was wrong with her, he'd snub her like all the rest of them. As long as she could hide them she was fine, which was good because she didn't usually talk to them or anything stupid like that.

Unique was a word she wouldn't have used to describe herself though. Unique wasn't what she was, if this male had seen the rest of the fiery lands of the Firekin then he'd know she was boring in comparison. Her markings were unspectacular, nothing special, the base stock for every firekin born. Bland.

"Yo're far from dull cousin. White stands ou' in th' world. Dun let yo'r mind play tricks wit' yo'." Khepri responded with a smirk. He was a strange one calling himself dull like that.

Ekage gave a smile and a nod, flicked his tail and watched her If she thought she was dull or not unique, they had such different views in the world then. He found himself dull, she did not, she found herself in a different light then how Ekage saw her at that moment. The world and its opinions and opinions of those within the world were truly strange sometimes, though then again, that is what determined who was what and such.

Strange concept, but you had to live with it regardless.

"I should pass on from here, perhaps find another unique one as yourself to befriend, think our paths will cross again?" he asked in question, he hoped so, she was nice, and different from the average rogue you met every now adn then.

Lifting her head up so that the soft savannah breeze hit her ears, Khepri brought her white muzzle down to smile at the rouge male before her and inclined her head. Meeting others and finding friendships was what her life had become about.... only to lose them all in the end when her quest came about once again. One day she would be finished such a quest and would be able to relax upon lands she hadn't yet seen.

Or maybe.... just maybe she'd find her way back to the only male she'd ever admit to loving even once.

But those were thoughts for a sadder time when she wasn't so rushed to get to her destination.

"The wind leads in differen' directions mah cousin. Bu' Ah think we'll mee' again." the female smiled and flicked her tail a little out behind her, "Th' Savannah's large, bu' we'll mee' again if yo' wan'."

"Of course I'd want to," Ekage said with a smile watching her, letting hte breeze ruffle his white mane. His deep brown eyes focused on her for a moment, then turned to look out at the nothingness the roguelands seemed to offer him day by day. Though who knew, one day he might find his family, and one day he might come across his new friend again.

"Lets hope the wind bring us back together sometime my friend, until then, good luck on your journey ahead of you," he said with a nod and slowly began to pad off in his own direction towards the possibility of being reunited, and a possibility of having a home.

"Ah'm sure it will cousin" Khepri said as the male walked into the distance. Her tarnished gold eyes watched him walk away from her silently until Ekage was gone. For some reason, despite how happy she was that she would be able to find the Ela' at last, there was a sinking feeling in her stomach, accompanied by a swelling of sadness that yet another friend had to be left behind in the dust of the endless savannah.

Shaking her head to clear it, the ex-firekin female twisted her body to face the direction she'd been running and set off at a much slower pace.

Maybe with time the sinking feeling and the sadness of friends let go would ease, but the voices rang in her head once more, solidifying her reasons for being upset.

The future was bright and happy... a long way down the road.
