A blue hyena huffed and started to run towards the sun. He had been sleeping too much and had a lot of energy to spare. He needed a way to get rid of that energy.

And for the moment. The best was was to run.

So that's what he did. He ran straight away from comfort of the pack and the places he knew by heart. He didn't even know where he was anymore, but he knew he could find his way back.

He was, after all, following the path of the sun.

Sure, chasing the sun was childish, but he didn't care.

Xx'ami-da grinned as he ran and let the wind blow his mane. He slowed to a stop and looked up at the sky. He'd head back later in the afternoon so he could chase the sun back home.

He sat in his spot, panting. He still had a grin on his face. He shook his mane to in front of his eyes so the sun wouldn't irritate them.

He let himself in a laying position and blew up at his bangs, silently hoping to be in neutral lands.

Kivu himself had also gone for a walk. The spotted hyena had strayed from his packlands for a brief minute or so, but hadn't gone far. No, he was only on the borders of the place - if he went too far, Mafa mind scold him... and he wouldn't want that.

He had resolved to stay loyal to the pack for a long while, and not to make any moves that others could deem 'suspicious', lest the pack throw him out. And he wouldn't want that, either. No.

But the instinct to hunt had gotten ahold of him... and Kivu had quickly found himself craving more than the mice, rats and wilderbeasts of the Graveyard - he wanted one particular animal to taste, and that animal was hare.

Ahhhh, hare. It had been a while since he'd had such a meal. Licking his lips with anticipation, the hyena set off, loping tirelessly off and out of the Elephant Graveyard.

X's ears flicked up in mere alertness. A sound of footsteps. He knew the sound well against just about anything. Rock, soft sand, water, and so on.

He lifted his head and shook his firey mane out of his eyes and looked towards the sound. He was at complete alert, though he wasn't in a defensive position.

Though the blue hyena was against voilence, that didn't mean the other creatures were. He wouldn't go into a defensive position. No. Not yet. He hadn't been threatened yet.

Pushing himself into a sitting position, X looked up at the sky. He only did so to see the time of day. It wasn't that late. Probably only afternoon. Though he was looking at the sky, his ears were flicking to sound and movements.

Chachili had also been out. She'd been out for quite a while - although, memories had drawn her back to the border. Memories of a wild-dog slave, and that scrawney Chiboa wild dog that was now in possession of her two fawns.

The meeting place. The judging ground. This was the place.

Slowly, she turned a grave eye to the earth. It gave off the scent of bones, and a distant smell of decay. Something had died here. A lot of things came to die here. Just along the border of the Graveyard. She had no wish to enter.

She preferred her life. The klipspringer backed away, and tossed her head, making off to go back home. She'd come to the spot - and she was happy now. It was time to go, before any of those horrid hyena folk came trotting down...

Kivu lifted his muzzle to sniff the scent-laden air. His powerful nose scented an animal - not quite a hare - but a hoofed mammal, none the less. He grinned. This animal would do.
Quietening, he dropped his speed and slowed to an ambling walk.

A familiar scent caught in the air around X. One he had only encountered twice, but he still knew it.

He knew it by face and scent, but not by name. He had never asked of it's name, but he would.

He started towards the scent in hopes to find the nameless Klipspringer that had saved Ban and whom he had saved from Ban.

Sure it was an odd situation with depression after the second encounter, but the hyena was still curious.

Upon seeing the Klipspringer he called out. Well... he spoke out. "Hey," he said casually lie it was an everyday thing to just walk up to a preybeast and hold a conversation.

It was for him, anyways. He did it a lot. He'd rather talk, and he was anti-voilence. He didn't believe in harming someone for no cause. It was from being brought up a bit in the Mwangaza pack, he supposed.

"Ah!"

The grey klipspringer immediately wheeled around in alarm, just in time to find a hyena staring her down. Her heartbeat quickened, and for a minute she found herself frozen to the spot, held in his icy gaze, and fearing for her life.

Then, suddenly, she realised that she knew this hyena. He'd only grown bigger since they'd last met... much bigger. It had been a while.

"You're the one who-" she paused, not wanting to admit that the hyena had saved her from his dog friend. She was much too proud for that.

"I know you," was all she could manage.

"Yep..." X said. "We've met twice now..."

He paused for a second.

"You know... I still don't know your name... If you told me... I don't remember..." He chuckled lightly. It was half out of amusement, and half because of his nature.

He didn't laugh often though. It was rare to hear him laugh truely. Most of the time, it was a small bit of laughing because of what he was, but he didn't mind.

"So, what is you name, Miss?" he asked.

He ignored her being startled for a second. He didn't really mind. It was a natural reaction for preybeasts.

His ears flicked lightly to listen for anyone that was trying to sneak in. He just hoped no one would try it.

Chachili paused, and looked the hyena in the eye. She, too, could not recall the name of the 'youngster'. Perhaps it was time for a swap, then.

"Chachili," she said simply, nodding her head for emphasis, "And don't feel bad about it. I can't quite remember your name, either, whether it was spoken or not. Your face is all I can recall. So you are...?"

Ducked behind a pile of elephant bones, someone had been listening in. A certin someone named Kivumbi'wingu, in fact. The spotted hyena grimaced as he watched his fellow hyena flick an ear in his direction. It seemed that he was onto him, or at least on the lookout for any intruders like himself. Kivu tensed, and felt a growl rise in his throat, though he pushed it down so as not to give away his hiding spot.

He couldn't understand it - why was the hyena talking with the dinner? It just didn't make sense. Food were to eat, not to talk to... unless you were the type that played with your food.

"Xx'ami-da is what I'm called. Though, you can call me X for short, since I knew you since I was younger," Xx'ami stated.

"How are your two girls doing?" he said referring to the fawns that he had watched her birth.

X tirled his head with a light smile. His body tensed a bit with alertness, but relaxed slightly as he saw no immediate danger.

Yet.

He blew his mane out of his red eyes again. It bugged him slightly, but he would get used to it.

His ears folded back fow a second as he heard something move. He didn't use his nose. It wouldn't work, anyways, because of the smell surrounding the place.

He was at attention again, like a soldier. He hoped he didn't seem to skittish. He was just wary of the dangers in a new land. He had never been to this area before, after all.

"My girls are well," Chachili managed to crack a smile, "But growing. Stronger, they grow, everyday... sometimes I worry that they'll run off with some boy and I'll never see them again. Mother's worries, I suppose. Nothing more. They're big girls now, though."

She gave the hyena a warm smile.

"Thanks for asking, X," she commented, and paused, "Ah... have you seen your little... dog friend... lately?"

The one that had, on countless occassions, tried to murder her. Jibanza, of course. Who else? Chachili worried that one day, the girl may suceed in taking her life. It was like Ban was drawn to Chachili...

She shook the thought from her head. Ban wasn't here right now.

Meanwhile, Kivu stayed quiet. He was biding his time, and waiting for the right moment to strike.

X nodded. "It's good that they are doing well. Are you well youself?" he asked.

Was it really a mother's worry, he didn't know. He didn't know the feeling of a mother's woory.

"Ban? I'm going to meet up with her later. We're going to the jungle for a while..."

X smiled at that. She wan'ted to see the jungle, so he went with her. It would sound like some twisted up fairy tale story, but that was fine with him.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:22 pm

"The jungle, huh?" Chachili snorted, "At least that'll keep her away from me. For good, hopefully. Do me a favour and make the girl stay there for as long as possible."

She really didn't like that tan little predator. She wasn't the worst sort - and she didn't seem to have any ill-intentions to deliberatly harm Chachili. But the wild-dog just didn't seem strong enough to hold back her natural instincts ... she was the kind of creature that ran after something on impulse, acting first and thinking later.

"Anyway, it's been nice mee-"

The klipspringer turned, shuffling backwards, and Kivu's eyes widened. She had her back to him, and was nearing his hiding spot. The positioning was perfect. Adrenalin rushed through him, and his heartbeat thudded in his ears. It was time.

Out of nowhere, Kivu emerged, and his jaws, strong and powerful, locked down on Chachili's leg. The klipspringer was astonished for a moment, and winced as pain hit her hard and unexpectantly. Then, realising that she was under attack, she let out a shrill klipspringer panic whistle, and cried out loud in alarm, trying to shake herself free as the creature's fangs drew blood...

X smirked lightly at that.

His ear flicked lightly. It took him a second to actually see that Chachili had been attacked.

He growled lowly and moved toward Kivu. He bared his teeth threateningly.

"Let her go, or I will kill you..." he growled out at the spotted hyena. If he didn't let her go... there was going to be a major problem.

He wasn't going to let a klipspringer that he had helped once just get killed in front of him.

It angered him as well.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:52 pm

Kivu paused, and lifted one eyebrow at the hyena, his teeth still sunk in the struggling klipspringer's neck. He grinned, and just bit down harder, looking back at X with a stone cold gaze - he had no reason to let this klipspringer go. The hyena before him was, after all, younger than himself, and Kivu would gladly fight for his prey.

Chachili, herself, bucked, and managed to kick the hyena in the face, sending Kivumbi flying. However, the worst was yet to come - the hyena bounced back, picking himself off the ground as quickly as he had landed... and sprang back up, tearing aggressively at Chachili's neck.

"Don't move," he hissed through his teeth, as Chachili attempted to struggle, "If you move, I'll cut off your air supply. Just like that."

He would, anyway. It was just fun to play with a preybeast.

"Stay back, rogue," he growled, his voice muffled from his biting down hard on Chachili's flesh, "This one's mine."

X snarled angrily and aimed a bite at Kivumbi's neck.

He wouldn't let Chachili die. He couldn't.

Once his teeth were clamped, he snarled again. "Let. Her. Go," he growled angrily through the clump of flesh and fur on Kivu's neck.

He let his teeth sink in, carful not to kill him right away. He avoided the main blood flow by only a bit.
