In my band, if you get caught chewing gum, it's an automatic 50 push-ups! And your not allowed to do the girl kind either....which sucks... xp

I don't personally get into trouble, since I don't chew gum, but my band director ranges in his 'punishment' for chewing gum. In the beginning of the year, he just makes the chewer get up and throw out their gum, but he's gotten to a point in the middle of the year before where he'd give automatic detentions for anyone caught chewing gum.
Push-ups? That doesn't sound fun at all...

The great part is, any music director can tell when you're chewing gum. Ours won't always say it, but your grade is going to suffer. 3nodding

Yes, we do. We have a gum cup which is filled with gum, it's so gross! If you spit it in the first time, you'll be okay... But if you do it a second time in the same day, you'll have to write a gum essay.

were not allowd but dosent really stop anyone, the only people who ever get caught are the trumpets for some reason... and thats a rarity in its self...maybe our guys just gone a bit blind or dosent care anymore... however if replacment guys is there he notices and makes a massive deal out of it... i dont worry though i never chew gum anyway

Okay, you get 50% of that day's participation grade cut-off, and you just have to get up and spit it out.

My friend got his gum stuck in his trumpet once, and they couldn't get it out. He was playing, and it went 'WHOOMPH' and got stuck in the valves.

Yup. My bd is ruthless when it comes to gum, especially if you're a percussionist, strangely enough.

I've never tried on my band room in high school...not sure what my BD would do. I do know that in middle school I would be in deep if I chewed though. Oh well, I can go without gum for band.
