User ImageIt was a beautiful, though rather crisp, day. The sun was shining down brightly, the sky cloudless as far as the eye could see. Gusts of wind occasionally blew past lazily, making the treetops dance and sway. There wasn't much snow on the still chilly ground, and the first buds of spring were pushing through the treetops.

A rather large Dustling Dragon made his way through the forest, smiling as the warmth of the sun shone on his violet coat. He seemed very clean and well-kept, as if he had plenty of free time to groom. Sniffing the air happily, he caught the faint scent of water, and made his way towards a decent-sized pond. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't small, perhaps the length of a few houses in either way.

Dipping his beak to drink, Zalmoxis took a few large mouthfulls of the chilly water and smiled as he felt it rush through his throat and settle in his stomach. He laid down by the waters edge on a patch of grass that was freshly released from the winters grasp. Watching the reflection of the sun on the water, he heaved a content sigh and basked in the days pleasures.

Within the cool depths of the water, the merdustling gracefully slided across the bottom of the pond. Her elegant flipper tail swirled up clouds of silt from the bottom, creating miniature whirlpools of dust. Dark eyes occasionally blinked as she searched for fish. It was almost breeding season for these little suckers, meaning the fast she put up with during the winter would soon be over.

The clear reflection of the glittering sun from above created little halos of floating light beneath the layers of water. As she swam over the halos of light, her exotic patterns glittered beautifully like an exotic fish. Even the tips of her fins would occasionally catch the light and glitter off different array of colors and patterns. To the world above, it probably seemed more like the water at the bottom had neon colored paints.

Without realizing another dust had invaded her waters, she kept swimming on until his scent carried on deep into the bottom of the waters. Her eyes immediately sharpened into a ferocious glare. Who dares enters her waters without permission?

Obviously enraged by this situation, she swam circles around the bottom to create large clouds of dust which would give her enough cover when she swam towards the top. The reflected gaze of the violet dustling dipping into her water was more than enough. Lowering her head fins, she surfaced her head slightly with her glaring eyes staring right into those of the male dust's.

Zal was once again lapping at the water, and as he spotted a flash of bright colors swim by him he blinked and watched it more closely. He wondered if there were any very large fish in the waters, and he pulled his face from the side and also pulled the tip of his tail from the water, it had been resting and swirling there lazily. He didn't want to get bitten.

As the merdusts eyes surfaced, Zalmoxis didn't at first notice she was there. He was trying to once again find the flashes of neon colors below, and as his eyes scanned the surface, he came across the glaring eyes of the female beneath the water.

He let out a gasp of surprise, then chuckled at how easily frightened he was. "Oh me, you surprised me there." He said, speaking to her in a low, but very kind and soft voice. "I didn't know anyone was here."

The male was surprisingly skittish. With only a glare he chuckled in denial how fearful he truly was. She could hear sounds echoing into her ears from his soft, gentle voice, yet she could understand nothing that he said. Every now and then unsuspecting dustlings would come to this water hole for a drink or possibly even a bath. Each time they would run away in fear of drowning once Skuld pulled them beneath the surface. Occasionally they would beg, in which she barely understood due to her lack of communication with others. The only thing she understood was their tone of voice, pleading to her for their lives.

Her intensive glare remain fixed on the violet colored dustling. How dare he touch her waters without permission. Not just that, but taint her precious waters with his undoubtedly filthy fur and beak? Utterly grotesque and unacceptable.

Her tail gracefully twirled, flapping hard upon the water's once calm surface. The merdustling's body dived several inches under the water in one smooth movement following her warning. If he didn't leave, she would hesitate no more in dragging him under. Watching them squirm was always such a fun pass time.

Zal gave her a curious c**k of the head, thinking she was just not one to communicate much with others. He figured she had understood him perfectly well, With a gracefullness not often seen in males his age, Zal stood in one motion and looked down into the murky depths.

"Hmm... curious creature." He said softly to himself, watching her form as long as he could, before she dissapeared from view completely. He sat back on the shore, thinking as he watched the water. Perhaps she wished for him to follow her? Perhaps not. The unkind look she had given him made him come to the conclusion of the latter.

But, Zal was a stubborn creature. And he took it upon himself to befriend this new and curious female. With a swift leap, he was soaring through the air, and dove head first into the chilly depths, with barely a splash to stir the surface.

Zal was a graceful swimmer, for a Normal Dustling. He used his tail to guide himself, his front feet tucked beneath his chest and his back feet pushing him forward powerfully.

The merdustling submerged enough that she barely touched the bottom as she swam in elongated circles. With each gentle flap of the tail, a little dust from the bottom would swirl about in dust clouds. As she gazed at the swirls of dust clouds, she had subconsciously hoped the dustling made his way elsewhere with her more than obvious warning. She really did not feel the need to chase away another for the day. All she wanted, like always, was peace and quiet and a nice pool of water to herself. Of course, they would be filled with the fish she hunted and ate, but aside from that she wanted no other intruders. That included those nosy birds that swam on the water's surface.

As she felt the disruption in the current, her fins immediately stood up. She tilted her head upwards with a glare, watching the indigo creature swim more gracefully than most others. No matter how great or graceful of a swimmer he was, he could not hope to outlast her under water.

With great speed, she swam around the bottom enough times to create even larger dust clouds. Under the cover of the dust clouds, the merdustling quickly propelled herself upward to where the dustling swam. Her fins and feet were tucked in to give her the least water resistance as her tail pushed her upward.

When she was at the right height not too far beside him, she twirled her body around with enough speed to swing her tail around like a giant paddle. After she felt the contact of her tail to the dustling's body, she quickly submerged under the cover of the dust once more.

Foolish dustling. You cannot hope to win against me in my own territory.

The indigo dustling didn't know what was going on at first, but he quickly realized by the swirling dirt that she was swimming around him rapidly. He tried to follow her with his eyes, but the mixture of the dust and how fast she was made him lose sight of her quickly.

He finally found her again, but then felt a sharp pain through the length of his back. His first instinct was to gasp, but he stopped himself from sucking in the murky water. With a few powerful strokes of his feet he made his way to the surface.

With a gasping breath, the dustling sucked in as much air as he could get. After a few breaths and floating on the surface to regain some strength, he glanced at his back hesitantly. There was no blood, and he was grateful for it. But he knew he'd be feeling that the next day.

With a snort of annoyance, the all too stubborn dustling dove back under and tried to once again find the neon female.

Her hateful eyes kept watch on the indigo male as he swam back into the surface. She had hoped that was warning enough for him. A slap across the face was certainly no joke; especially one from such a powerful limb as the flat surface of a tail. Perhaps that fool learned his lesson to never cross the merdustling in her territory again.

Skuld's anger slowly subsided as she swam in oblong shapes along the water's bottom. For a while, it seemed the dustling went away. Though much to her surprise when she gazed upward she could see the indigo figure dulled out by the still murky water.

Full of resentment, she swam upwards to meet with the dustling for another quick slap across the face. Maybe after another one he would run away finally.

Zal was ready for her to come at him again, and he kept an eye out for the neon shape of the female. As he saw her swimming towards him, he stopped swimming and put his front legs up, in a sort of I-mean-no-harm-position. He hoped she'd think twice before attacking him again. He was not a weak dust by any means, and he knew he could do some damage now that he was ready for an attack, though he hoped it wouldn't come to that.
