Hive World: Sabbishen – 10 years ago

The endless city of Sabbishen Prime is home to a seemingly endless amount of people of seemingly endless variety. The wealthy and approved of this metropolis reside in the higher reaches and peaks of the plasteel mountain range; The more unfortunate find themselves buried and hidden within the city depths. That does not mean, however, that the classes never mix. Quite the opposite is more true than not, with dynamic results which in certain cases effect more than just reality.

Such an incident was about to occur. Somewhere within the contrasting, shadowed undercity a young daemonologist and her younger companion were in the midst of a valiant chase. One which they were going to win. Their quarry was a man they had been chasing for a half an hour, as both pursuers had a powerful psychic fix on the man. Unfortunately for him, he realized, there was no way he was going to escape confronting them. His arm had been shattered in the earlier ambush, which resulted in the gross death of his entire party and this ensuing chase. The man turned into a long hallway, opened the door at the end, and prayed there was something useful inside.

Ruevian stopped running when the pressure-sealed door shrieked open, and the emergency lights of the sector suddenly glared a glowing but ambient red. Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly as she realized the man she'd been after just single-handedly opened the door to an airlock. A locked airlock.

“Ichigo, double check on that airlock. Does that go directly outside or what?” The purple-haired, lithe, lovely expert in daemons asked her datascroll toting shadow.

A few taps later her response came from the blond girl standing next to her, who seemed incredibly out of place in the dark recesses of a hive city. “Map shows it leads to a transport garage,” she started, before reading more. “Maintenance entries show that no vehicles are inside. Emperor be Praised, Miss Rue – he's trapped!” The young girl beamed.

“That he is. He wouldn't dare go outside, not even a Daemon could survive out there. Now, concentrate and reinforce your psychic barriers, he'll probably try something big when we enter.”

Ruevian couldn't bring herself to tell the poor girl that she was about to be face to face with a powerful Daemon Prince. Or that she was gambling with the cute little attentive and devoted girl's life, hoping she would distract the Slaaneshi spawn long enough for her experienced mind to knock out the mortal body, giving the two enough time to prepare the binding ritual.

“Miss Rue, are you okay?” The big blue eyes were obviously worried.

“Absolutely.” She smiled down at the poor thing next to her. “Just think, tomorrow we'll have a new Warp drive, plenty of cred, and on our way to another planet. New life sound good, eh?”

“Yey!”

Ruevian smirked and began to walk down the hallway, foot in front of the other as she raised her web pistol. She didn't want to kill him, but the hand flamer holstered to her thigh stated she would if she had to. Ichigo stifled a whimper and slipped the datascroll into her satchel as she followed her mentor. She concentrated on defensive wards, to protect herself from who she thought was just an invalid who fell in with the stupid little cult she and Ruevian psychically annihilated not long ago.

Gun first, the two girls passed through the door. The man standing in the center of the empty garage - half in crimson light, half in shadow – stood silent. Rue walked in, pistol pointed at her trapped prey, with Ichigo trying desperately to psychically shield the both of them in case the Warp consumed the man.

“Sit down, daemon, and stop trying to resist my thoughts,” Ruevian started. “You can't win this.”

The girls found themselves very, very mistaken when the man turned on the bright extension light above him, which illuminated his face like a personal spotlight. The Daemon Prince's stress had caused the mortal man's face to contort and twist into a portrait of perfection. Sharp, powerful features with piercing eyes. Ruevian froze in her tracks.

Ichigo then bumped into her, having been hiding fully behind her. She blinked, then peeked around to gaze upon the most wonderful thing she had ever seen. Emotions and feelings she'd yet to even think about flooded into her as the Daemon Prince easily pierced her wavering mind and embraced it.

“Wow,” The girls said in unison.

“Indeed, ladies. You both are quite stunning yourselves. Please, come here.” The insisting, Warpfueled tone beckoned to them. Only Ichigo walked forward, losing her mind with each step. Ruevian's thoughts were racing as she channeled pure Warp energy to fight Chaos itself.

The man began to walk forward, smiling down at Ichigo as he passed her. Placing his hand on her head in an affectionate touch, she trembled violently before fainting. He tilted his head in amusement before softly looking back upon the psyker in front of him. Nearing the quivering woman, he lifted his good hand to touch her face.

“You almost had me this time, didn't you.” The Slaaneshi chosen spoke beautifully, moving his hand down her arm. “Must have been following this poor mortal for some time... when you over... heard some idiot cultist thinking aloud...” He was beginning to lose his mental grip on Ruevian, even as his physical one tightened around her gun.

“Let... go of me...” She strained. The images and feelings of pleasure had almost been too much for her. Her ties to the materium were waning.

“Oh, come now... you don't really mean that, do you, my sweet.” His response was a command, instead of a question.

“She said, let go.” A loud, deep voice then interjected from behind the Daemon Prince, before resting an anxious power sword on his shoulder.
“Now.”

The Daemon turned his head and followed the blade back to an Inquisitor. “Ah, Gendou. You're getting better with age. A shame that I have to give up this body just to kill you.”

Ruevian and Gendou were blown away from the possessed man as the Daemon Prince manifested its true form. A large, gorgeous, batlike wing had slammed into the black trenchcoat of Inquisitor Gendou, while the mortal arm twisted into a larger, elegant limb ending in vicious claws. The Inquisitor flipped in mid-air and slid backward on the balls of his large boot-wearing feet, while Ruevian lost half her long coat's contents upon hitting the ground, including a rune-lined katana and some smokes. The two mortals looked up upon a tall specimen of Slaaneshi perfection, who grinned at the two of them in turn as they scrambled to their feet. He flicked his tail.

Gendou's grizzled face sneered as he stood.. His training had prepared him well for the onslaught of simply viewing a Daemon Prince. The power sword flicked on, and the Inquisitor took a defensive stance as he watched the being before him. He took note but paid no attention to Ruevian's eyes which glowed a brilliant purple as the Warp energy filled her.

“Master,” Ruevian started, standing at the same time as Gendou.” The Daemon's tail stopped, and his head turned, wide face grinning with joy. “Can I kill him for you?” She unholstered the hand flamer.

“I'm sorry, my dear,” he started. “I need to enjoy this before I return home.” The power sword hummed patiently in the background.

“Hurry up then!” Ruevian pouted.

The Daemon Prince laughed and turned his back on the psyker, missing her grin. Gendou didn't, however, and took a step forward just as the field blasted outwards from Ruevian. The powerful force slammed into the Daemon's back, causing him to stumble in surprise into the molecule-splitting blade, which amputated an arm and half a wing before slicing into both demonic knees. The Daemon fell hard.

Ruevian fell as well. Drawing that much energy from the Warp should have killed her, but she wanted to make sure she could harm the beast.

“I'm ending this now, Vermillion,” Gendou demanded, even as the red electric bolts began to pull the Daemon back into the Warp.

“Slaanesh has granted me the name 'Deep' Vermillion, Inquisitor. And not this time.”

The power sword impaled a charred human skeleton, a moment too late.

The raid/pillage will probably be the best use of your time, the next installment may be a few days.

And this, of course, is why you should always carry lots of ammo. wink

There were a couple times in the beginning where I had to stop and reread, but aside from that, everything flowed very nicely. (Granted, those parts were the parts where I wasn't familiar with the setting at all, and had to reread to pick up from context.)

Pretty good definition, compelling story, and left me wanting more.

Please continue this.

An uncommented story is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.

Overall, I give thee the upping of the thumbs. I shall but mention a few places where I feel the flow of words falters.

“Ichigo, double check on that airlock. Does that go directly outside or what?” The purple-haired, lithe, lovely expert in daemons asked her datascroll toting shadow. This is just awkward. I don't mean the line Rue delivers, I mean the rest of it. Chill, take your time to explain, don't rush and try to force everything into a single short line.

Well, this is the one place that really stuck out, anyway.

DV would be a Slaaneshy tipe, wouldn't he biggrin
