Boardwalk

The boardwalk is a place, most typically in beachfront communities, where a wooden path for pedestrians and sometimes vehicles runs along a beach or overlooks and is close to a beach.

In this case, the boardwalk runs along the beach for four miles to the residential limits, and is largely a tourist attraction. In fact, it is widely used for common shops where it is possible for tourists to purchase souvenirs and trinkets to remember their trip. From time to time, it is also known for the amusement parks that occasionally pop up.

"Fortunes told, Fortunes lost"

A pretty young woman called out from her stand on the boardwalk. Dressed like a gypsy, her hair was wrapped in bandannas and in true gypsy fashion, she had rows of 'coins' wrapped around her hips.

"For a small gold coin, I'll tell your fortune."

"Don't let fortune pass you by, find out your destiny!" The woman was still calling out, taking a break only to fufill the request of a customer here and there.

Legart had a lead foot since they got the new car--the Audi S8 could push much better than his S-Class, but Legart wanted durability and an S8 wasn't available when he bought his car. With Tokai and all the equipment in the back, and Tien riding shotgun, he powered on through the boardwalk.

"Ask Tokai for some nine-mils," he said to Tien. "No sense in not being full up. I'll need some when you're done, too. If you brought your own weapon, you can put the Glock in the glovebox."

Tokai asked Legart to stop the car and Upon the car stopping hopped out He began to stroll down the board walk at a brisk pace, barely waiting for his companions, as he looked for something to give his sister when he got out of this place. Hearing the calls of the fortune teller he figure why the hell not, his sister could use a charm for college tests.

As Tokai got close, a glint was in the woman's eye. Another customer. Wonderful. It had been a slow day.

"Good day, kind sir. Would you like to have your fortune told? Only one gold coin." She smiled, she wasn't beautiful, but she was pretty and friendly. "I have a special today, 3 fortunes for the price of one. You only have to find two friends who also wish for their fortunes."

Tien unbuckled his belt as the car stopped, thankful that he had put in on. "Enjoying the new car?" He asked sarcastically, beginning to regret having let Legart drive. So he was more than happy to escape the confines of the car despite his ignorance of why precisely they were at the boardwalk. Seeing as how Tokai had run off already though, he stepped around the vehicle and casually removed the offered ammunition almost matter-of-factly. He had learned long ago that if you do something plainly enough then people will fill in the rest despite what they may see, if they even bother to look.

Most didn't find a 5'6" asian very noteworthy.

The car squealed to a halt at Tokai's request, Legart easing it into a parking spot as the big Japanese man stepped out. Funny how the Japanese guy was the biggest of them, with the white man stuck in the middle. Tokai ran off to do some hoodoo fortune telling deal, as Legart buttoned his jacket, dusted it off a little, and got out of the car following Tien.

He ignored the Chinaman's quip, eyes wandering over the boardwalk testingly, wondering if anybody else was going to ambush them. They needed to get back to the Fist HQ and offload their extra marble--and then go back out and get more. Why they were here, he didn't know, but it was fine. They'd take a moment to catch their breath, do a little shopping, and then get back on the road. Legart eyed a coffee stand, lighting another cigarette as he passed Tien to reach Tokai, tapping the Yakuza on the shoulder.

"I'll be back, I'm getting a drink."

Tokai smiled down at her with lazy grin,"Sure miss." Looking over at Legart leaving he stated, "Come one, we'll get this done real quick and be done." Turning back to the fortune teller, "We don't have any gold coins, so would you take something else in trade instead?"

"So what are we doing here?" Tien asked, his mood lightened somewhat by the comforting weight of several clips of strategically placed 9mm. Noticing his fellows grouping around the nearby stall, he had decided to head over, for lack of anything better to do. It was just a boardwalk, after all.

Legart paused at Tokai's request--again--and dug the rings he looted out of his pocket, offering them to Tokai. "Your business deal, so you pay," he said, nodding politely to the fortune-teller as he took a drag off his cigarette.

With Tien coming up, that made all three of them--Legart absently brushed off more of the road dust he got from the earlier incident, still glancing around the market for anything out of the ordinary.

Holding out the rings to the fortune teller just as Tein walked up. "Will these work" said Tokai plesantly, "the ain't coins but they are gold?"

Once she was assured of payment, the lady sat down, and dug out her tarot cards, taking extra care with the cards. "My, my...what fine young gentlemen we have today...what do the cards hold in store for you." she began laying the cards out.

"Oh my...."

Tien regarded the fortune teller with an unreadable expression. It did seem slightly frivolous that his teammates wanted to have their fortunes read on the job but he found it difficult to fault them. It almost surprised him that Legart would even bother with something like this considering how little his culture heeded such things. In the end he decided to simply wait and hear it. It could only aid them really. If it was good then he could be more confident with their success, bad and he'd know who to avoid.

"You..." She pointed to Tokai, "will be going on a long trip soon...one from which you may not return..." She tsked, and moved on to Tien. Her hand moved to her mouth, "Oh my, this is just horrible." She looked up, "You have horrible juju..." She then turned to Legert.

"You're life is about to change for the worse..." She felt bad telling this men such bad fortunes.

"I know..."She dug around in her skirt till she found the pocket and pulled up a glimmering gray marble. "This be good juju. I found fifty dollars after finding it." She handed it to Tien. "Hopefully it will protect you."
