I know that for many people, Halloween is more than Trick-or-Treat and scary movies (like how I observed the occassion wink ). I'm curious as to how other people observed October the 31st, especially those who place a higher significance upon it than the mainstream does. Of course, anyone is welcome to post what they did on this day.

Halloween is really just trick or treat for me, though I know it means more to other people. My church doesn't really approve of trick or treating and they usually have a "Fall Festival" for the little kids in the neighborhood. I usually skip that and gotrick or treating, or take my younger siblings. wink
This year is my first year away from home(Junior in college) so at the building I am living at, we had a Halloween party on Friday night and then Sunday, my family came to visit me and I spent the day with them.

I liev in Australia and Australia doesn't celebrate Halloween. Everyone knows about ti and some celebrate it (In the Australian spirit of an excuse to party, drink and stuff. It's also in summer, fire up the BBQ!) so it's slowly becoming a bigger thing but not much of one.

To me halloween is a religious holiday: samhain. Unfortunatley I wasn't able to do much this year seeing as I'm at college, I would have loved to done a celebration of somesort, but alas, I couldn't. Damn all work to hell and back, and then to hell again.

xdarktigress and I watched a horror movie marathon, then went outside and went trick or treating! blaugh It was great because the second the sun went down, it started blizzarding. So we were like "Whee! Give us candy!" And people were giving us funny looks cause we were out trick or treating in a blizzard, and because we're too old. I'm 20 and she's 18... but whatever. I'm not missing out on my favourite day of the year.
Now as far as spirituality goes, I could feel the energy of the day.... Samhain represents the death of the god. (But only his physical form... the gods neer truley leave us.) In Paganism, the sun represents God and the Moon represents the Goddess. Well, the second the Sun went down, the God's life in this incarnation ended and the Goddess took over completley. And you could feel it the moment it happened. The moment the Sun went donw, we got our very first snowstorm of the year, and it has snowed for twentyfour hours after that.
I didn't actually pray or anything yet. But that's okay. Some traditions hold that the day of Death is November first, and one traditions says it's on the third.

Halloween does have a deeper significance to me beyond candy, but I wouldn't say it's explicitly religious in my case. Halloween is one of those holidays where people just give freely for the joy of the children, without expecting any gifts in return (except for perhaps avoiding an egging wink ). It's just a fun holiday where people dress up and have... fun. It's a creative holiday, too. Also, where I live, it's one of the few days of the year where neighbors walk around and actually interact with each other. I find it to be a very joyous occassion of fun, friends, community, creativity, and mystic splendor. As far as what I did, my friends and I went Trick-or-Treating, so don't feel bad, A Murder of Angels, because our ages range from 16-21. You're never to old to get something for free!! 3nodding Nor too old to have fun! Besides the Trick-or-Treating (in my costume, I was pretty cold), we went back to my house and watched "Sleepy Hollow." I thought it was appropriate since a few of my friends have a low tolerance for scary movies, and I consider this movie to be more like a 'supernatural suspense action' type movie than a horror. If no one minds, here's a costume picture: The picture is resized, so the quality is only so-so. I'm Rinoa and my boyfriend, Andy, is Squall. Those are video game characters from Final Fantasy VIII, for those of you who don't know.

Had a big party with bad horror movies on Saturday, stayed up until 1:30am playing Warcraft to-uh, commune with spirits... ninja Then spent Halloween sitting around, eating leftover candy, and getting Gaia event items.

Ah yes, I cannot forget all of the time I spent in the morning and late evening collecting items on Gaia. I managed to get all of the Jack items except for Jack's Joy, and that's only because I spent that last hour getting a second Jacked Up Cape as a favor xp

To me halloween is the closes day to the dead. The day people light candles and leave them and food at the door for the dead. Plus I always seem I watch for spectors, it's fun to do. I know this is going to sound a bit crazy but I like it when they talk to me.
Edit. I think it's unfair that the church want to ban halloween. It's new year to pagans plus it's part of many people's reilgon.
