Who: Relm, Kaleb, Riley When: This weekend (check the date-stamp of the post, sillies!) Where: In the city; a small, self-run, Russian coffee house/bakery/deli What: Um, accidental socializing? Please don't post without asking or getting an invite! *huggles* Thanks!
Relm sang lightly to herself in her soft alto voice as she strode almost businesslike through the city. She was nearly at peace with there being other "Relms" in her family now, but she had felt a need to do something on her own -something special. So the day before she had returned to the coffee shop Keme & she had visited Christmas day to offer to paint something "special" for the owner. A mural or something for the shop, or perhaps a painting of his dead wife.
Ivan had taken her up on her offer for a mural after some insistence from the young artist that she would not take no for an answer & Relm had set to work right away. She used real paints, only mixing in her magic in the faintest ways possible to cheer, calm, & relax. Relm desisted in adding anything to increase the shop's business -not only was it unethical, but Relm selfishly did not want it to get too popular. She liked spending quiet time here with Keme.
But her art would likely call out to the right sort of customers to keep Ivan in business in his old age. Just not so much as to overwhelm him.
So she stepped lightly through the thin layer of snow that had blown ofer the city sidewalk between the higher piles where snow shoveled from the walkway had been piled. The air was crisp & cold, causing her breath to form little puffs as she sang. Not that she minded. In fact, Relm was starting to play with her breathing a little because of it.

He'd spent most of the morning meetings standing just to the left of Rufus glaring at spaces beside people's heads looking intimidating. It wasn't exactally a fun way to spend the morning but Rufus had gotten what he wanted and he'd let him and Kaleb go get lunch. He'd wanted lunch for hours and had been glad that his stomach hadn't growled in the middle of a meeting. That would have been horrible.
Outside he stretched and waited for his partner to catch up to him. "Where ya wanna go?" Knowing Kaleb he'd tell him that he wasn't hungry or something or that he didn't care where they went but at least he could ask. "Don't think Rufus'll need us back for a while so can go almost anywhere" He looked over his shoulder at his partner and waited for an answer.

Kaleb still wasn't sure why Rufus had wanted him at the meeting, but it had been uneventful, and his anxiety had been replaced by complete boredom long before the meeting parted for lunch. He was eager to leave the meeting room after they were dismissed, so he followed close on his partner's heels and waited until they were outside before yawning and rubbing the back of his neck to get some stiffness out.
When Riley spoke, he glanced up and smiled as he fidgeted with his jacket sleeves in the cold air. "I-I don't know, anything you want is good." He hadn't looked around, so he wouldn't have noticed Relm nearby.

Relm's ears flicked, thinking she heard a familiar voice. She looked up from playing with her visible breath to see an audio in a dark suit that instantly made her eyes narrow slightly for a reason she could not put a finger on. Reminded her of something... or someone. Someones? The narrowness of her eyes faded into contemplation even as she looked to see his companion. Light green eyes lit up with instant recognition, though a flicker of surprise accompanied it for the way the short male was dressed.
She waved her arm cheerfully over her head, brush firmly held in her paw. "Scholar! Hi!!" Casually she jogged over to them, full of cheery good will. "Who's your friend?"

He turned around as he heard someone call out to Kaleb and eyed the girl. "Riley." He didn't need Kaleb to answer for him and it irked him slightly that she'd asked Kaleb that instead of introducing herself and asking him. Reminded him of being talked over down in the labs.
He looked at Kaleb as she came to a stop and waited to see what he'd say.

Kaleb's ears perked when he heard the familiar nickname, and he turned to smile at Relm as she approached. "H-hi, Relm," he replied, a little nervous since he knew she wasn't so fond of Turks in general, and there would be no mistaking that he was one as well while he wore his work uniform.
He nodded slightly after Riley bluntly introduced himself, and then offered Relm a sheepish smile knowing she probably wouldn't like what he was about to say. "W-we're partners, Rufus assigned us to work together." Then he smiled up at his partner. "Relm is a friend of mine."

Relm quirked a brow ever so slightly for the way Riley interposed his name. For once she had not intended to be rude -she simply was more excited to see her friend than a possible Turk she did not know. She masked her feelings about Kaleb working so close to the top, forcing herself to focus on possible good things about her friend's apparent position.
At Kaleb's explanation she studied Riley with an appraising eye that could be discerning to some though not likely a Turk. Then a small, teasing smile touched her lips. "I must say, Rufus ShinRa knows how to pick them."
Light green eyes met Riley's. "Nice to meet you. I'm afraid I got a little carried away, seeing Scholar again." She made a face at Kaleb, showing exactly what she thought of not seeing him for so long -though her eyes laughed indicating she was at least partially teasing. "I'm glad you've a partner, Scholar. I might worry a little less." She tilted her head at the Turk. "One of the best, I hope?" A flick of the eyes towards the suits, but no more.

He snickered slightly. "You mean you actually get out of that library of yours on days i don't drag you?" He was kidding with Kaleb and hopefully his little partner would get that. He hadn't been able to make smart comments all morning and he couldn't control his tongue.
When Relm actually spoke to him he looked at her. "Only the best get to be Turks. Though i wouldn't say i'm as good as the best." No one was better than Tseng. That guy was pure evil wrapped up in a refined package.

Kaleb was relieved Relm didn't appear too upset over his job, and he smiled a bit and shoved Riley lightly. "I do too get out on my own. Sometimes."
"Y-you don't need to worry about me," Kaleb said as he turned back to Relm, fidgeting slightly. "Riley's really good, a-and we'll keep each other safe." He smiled in an embarrassed manner as he continued. "I-I'm really sorry I haven't called to visit. I passed my test and I have access to so much material now, a-and I've been busy with work..."

A soft smirk. So he was a Turk as she had expected. It was nice knowing for sure & not having to lightly skirt the issue. Unless for fun. "That's what I meant. And no, I doubt many are much as I doubt Rufus ShinRa is ever long separated from his 'secretary'." There was the briefest flash of darkness in her eyes, remembering, then it as gone.
Light green eyes crinkled with mirth as if nothing had happened. "That's not so bad then, Scholar -loosing you to another library. Congratulations on passing your test!"
Now it was Kaleb's turn to get the once over. He looked good in the suit, though perhaps a little uncomfortable. But what she was really looking for was trace of his tests; wondering what wound he had chosen to inflict. Curiosity could be a frightening thing.
She brushed an errant light brown curl back under her red beret. "So where are two such distinguished gentlemen such as yourselves off to?"
Then as an afterthought with a slight frown. "If you can tell me, of course."

"Tseng? Probably. Rufus' not the kinda guy ya can leave alone." Mostly that was because someone went home with Rufus ever night for security reasons but it wasn't always Tseng.
So since she knew about Kaleb school and stuff that probably meant that she was an old friend of his so he shouldn't have to worry about it. Though she did seem a little iffy. Maybe it was the paintbrushes.
"Lunch. Trying to make him pick somewhere." He looked at Kaleb and resisted the urge to stick his tongue out at him.

Kaleb blushed a bit at the congratulations, but he didn't miss his friend's glance. "Th-thanks," he said, fidgeting a bit and looking away. "I-I did okay, there's no scar."
He didn't elaborate or continue on that subject, not wanting his partner to start asking too many questions. Riley would probably freak if he knew about the test and what he had done to pass it. He quickly turned to look up at his partner, frowning a bit. "Why do I have to pick a place? You could pick too, you know."

No... I imagine he's not... The thought brought her more humor than anything else. She would not wish to live like that. Relm valued her freedom far too much. Funny how fate works things out.
Aloud with a smile to Kaleb she said. "I didn't expect there would be. You're good. 'Bout time everyone knew it." But she did not press the subject. Maybe later, if she was able to talk to Kaleb alone.
Relm looked from one male to the other, trying not to laugh. After Having Kaleb over to her house she knew how hard it could be to get the shy mage to make a flat out decision about anything. Her eyes twinkled with amusement. "Lunch? If you don't mind me making a suggestion, there's a great little place, at the end of the block." She waved in the direction she had been heading with the end of her brush. "All home cooked, fresh-made daily breads, soups & coffees with a small selection of deli meats & cheeses for sandwiches too."

"Scar?" He looked down at Kaleb. The look on his face seemed to say he wanted to say more on the subject but with their job he couldn't exactally tell Kaleb not to do things that were dangerous. That would defeat the purpose almost.
"Fresh bread?" That sounded good though he remembered how hard it was to make Kaleb eat a whole sandwich. Maybe he'd eat a bowl of soup and actually eat the whole thing. "What'da'ya think?" He nudged his partner slightly as he spoke.

Kaleb blushed brightly at Relm's comment, and avoided looking up at Riley until he changed the topic. He was well aware of his partner's tone even if he didn't look up to see Riley's expression, and he had a feeling he would be asked about his test later.
The idea of a nice meal instead of fast food was appealing though, and Riley didn't seem opposed to it, so he quickly nodded. "I-it sounds really nice. Relm, h-have you had lunch yet?" He asked, glancing up timidly.
