Silver is free and you can't play games online. Just buy gold for $50 a year so you can play games and get all of the great features Xbox Live has to offer.

Oh, I was also wondering how to get points to buy marketplace stuff. Can you buy them in the store, or what happens.....please help me, I feel lost...and lonely.

points you can buy at target or bestbuy or like anyplace that has live cards. my friend bought them and he got cool features like extra quests for oblivion, and a bunch of other cool and useless junk

You can buy points in person at a store or if you made your account with a credit card you can buy them online through the marketplace.
