TRUMPS

Unity City has fallen into poverty and disrepair. A combination of the rise of internet shopping and the outsourcing to Asia occurring in most industries has pushed unemployment to dizzying new heights. Transport and delivery, along with most other things, is automated, so the jobless will have no luck looking there, either. Even twenty years ago, no-one could ever have imagined the cloud of despair over the city today. The only thing that has improved since the 2010s is the greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere: no-one had realised just how significant an effect the emissions were having on the climate, until the temperature began to creep downward. Unity City is now a much colder, damper place that it was some fifty years ago.

From this despair, a new type of criminal has emerged: the mafia-like gangs have corporatised themselves, building up organisations which regulate the inflow of goods into the cities they effectively control. Prices are high, and supplies of everything except for illicit drugs are scarce. Here, in Unity City, the controlling company are known as the Ivory Corporation, and they are one of the worst of the bunch.

The absence of a police force coupled with majority unemployment has resulted in violent crime, rape, and murder escalating out of control. But the world likes balance, and tries to replace whatever is missing... so into the void stepped a vigilante: an old-fashioned superhero, who called themself "Ace", and whose calling-card was the Ace of Spades.

Time has passed, and the single vigilante gig has expanded into a troupe: a royal flush (more or less), of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Joker, who call themselves the Trumps.

Trumps

Player Name: Spirit Falconer
Character Name: Akbeau Debileys
Character Nickname: Beau (pronounced ‘bo’)
Age: 28
Gender: male
Position: Ace

Appearance:
Hair: Akbeau’s hair is black and wiry. He keeps it twisted into long dreadlocks that fall halfway down his back. He usually has beads at the end of his dreads, though not always. When he is working as Ace he pulls it back into a ponytail. (here’s an idea - [x])
Eyes: Brown
Skin: Black
Figure: He is tall, standing at six foot two, and sturdily built. He weighs two hundred pounds, but much of that is muscle befitting his large frame. His shoulders and chest are wide, his legs are powerful.
Attire: Akbeau has a job as mechanic, and when he is working he generally wears a loose pair of faded blue jeans paired with grease stained t-shirt. When he is relaxing, he tends to wear the same thing, though he sometimes changes to a clean shirt. He doesn’t have many clothes, but he owns one outfit that he reserves for his time as Ace. Under that name, he wears a comfortably fitted pair of black jeans that are faded almost to grey and a tight-fitted long sleeve shirt. When he works as Ace, he wears no mask and nothing to conceal his identity.

Weapon/s of Choice: mameluke sword with a 34” blade [x]
Abilities: he is an exceptionally good fighter, and stronger than most; other than that, the only ability he has is the ability to read the tarot cards

History:
Akbeau was born in Unity City. His mother raised him, and he never knew his father. His mother, who was known as Komam, was an immigrant from a distant place, and did not speak the language of Unity City well. Though she lived there for thirty years before she died, she always spoke with the accent of her native home. She was very religious, a devout Christian. Though she never attended church, she prayed every morning and night in her home, where she had an altar set up with a cross and an image of the Virgin Mary.

Komam passed on her religious beliefs to her son. Throughout his life, Akbeau has believed strongly in the grace of God and the glory of Heaven that awaits believers in the afterlife. He, too, prays morning and night at a small altar in his home.

Another belief that was passed from mother to son was the belief in the power of tarot cards. Komam kept a deck of tarot cards on her altar, and would often read the cards for her future and Akbeau’s. From his mother, Akbeau learned the art of reading not only tarot cards, but also regular cards as well. This was an art practiced heavily in his mother’s city, the reading of ordinary cards for the future. Whenever his mother cast for his fortune using ordinary cards, he was represented by the ace of Spades. Thus, that particular card became very special to him.

As he grew, Akbeau saw more and more of the debasement of the city in which he lived. When he was very small, he thought nothing of it. To him, it was just part of the life he knew. However, as he became older, he learned more and more from his mother about the glory of Heaven. When he saw his city, he no longer saw just a place to live. He saw a pi, a hole, a scar on the planet, Hell on Earth. He saw the devil in the people. And the more he saw, the more he realized that the source of the devilishness, the source of the Hell was a group called the Ivory Corporation.

Komam died when Akbeau was twenty-three. Before her death, Akbeau had never known how hard it was to survive. His mother took care of everything, from the shopping to the rent, because no matter how hard he tried Akbeau could never find a job. How his mother paid for everything was a mystery to him. Once Komam died, Akbeau could no longer afford his home, and he could no longer afford food. Cast out onto the streets with only a few possessions to his name, he joined the ranks of the impoverished in Unity City. As the months went by with no money, and scraping for every bit of food, Akbeau saw more of the Hell he called home than he ever wanted to see. The longer he was on the streets, the more crime he saw. The more crime he saw, the more he came to blame the Ivory Corporation for the stinking cesspool of a city.

Three days after he turned twenty-five, Akbeau stole into a pawnshop at night. From the back, he took an old sword that had been gathering dust on a shelf, because no one had the money to buy it. From among his meager possessions he took a deck of cards – a very special deck made up entirely of the ace of spades. That night, he declared a personal war against the crime in the city. In his mind, he vowed to one day take down the Ivory Corporation, the source of the crime, and restore Unity City to rights. In the meantime, he would take down the ordinary criminals – the murderers, the rapists, the robbers.

One day, he would see the Ivory Corporation fall.

Player Name: Amethyst Meadow
Character Name: Cathal Haden
Character Nickname/Preferred Name: Cath or Cathal
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Position: King

Appearance...
Hair: Cath usually keeps his hair to a moderate shortness and spikes it up.
Eyes: His eyes are smack dab in the middle of either black or dark blue, depending on the lighting.
Skin: Cath keeps his skin very well tanned, but naturally, instead of fake-n'-bake. He prefers to look natural, not orange.
Figure: Cath is what I like to call humanly buff. He has a very well toned body, but not something one would see only on movie stars or other impossibly fit people of the media. It's very apparent that he works out and takes good care of his body, but it's also easy to see that it's not the only thing on his mind.
Other: Cath has various small scars on his back from when he played sports when he was young. Most of them are small, usually unnoticeable, even up close, but he has one particular scar on his back that is quite visible on the lower center of his back. But clothes usually cover it.
Also, seeing as how I didn't find a good place to put this, Cathal is half Asian. But his looks are the only thing that would point to one to knowing. Though time, even his last name changed to a more northern style name, mostly through marriages and the like.
Attire: Cath's clothing usually depends on what ever he's doing. He literally has an outfit for everything. Not because he's really into fashion. Leave that for teenage girls and their magazines. Cathal has done so many different jobs that require so many different things that he tends to gather collections. His usual, casual, outfit is his favorite pair of faded, hole-covered pair of blue jeans with two chains connected to a belt loop and a black t-shirt, with black steel toed boots, incase there's some spur of the moment job he could do. There's really no purpose for the chains to be there on the jeans. He just likes them. And on a particularly cold day, he might slip on a jacket. But usually not. He's usually too lazy.
While he's "The King", Cathel's choice of clothing isn't really that different. He wears an easy to move in loose pair of black pants with a draw-string at the top that keeps them from falling. In contrast to how loose his pants are, he wears a tight black jacket with the color flipped up, with the sign of the King of spades stiched in white on the end of the sleeves, a little added touch he made himself, after much pin-pricking and swearing at random things. He also wears another of his pairs of steel toed boots, this being a pair in much better shape. Like Queen, he wears a simple black mask, though not because he's afraid of people knowing who he is. He actually only wears it because he thinks it looks cool. Just to add a little jazz to the outfit, he sees fit to wear a small, barely noticable silver earing on his left ear.

History: In the first years of Cathal's life, there was nothing wrong. He lived in a very fortunate family, a very well off family. Long before Cathal's generation came to be, his ancestors had created a very good arts company that grew rapidly and fell to each oldest son of the family. But with all the changes happening in Unity City, there was little income coming in to the family. After a while of the death of Cath's family company dying and reviving, it finally failed. The family was left in ruin.
There were several effects this took.
The sudden change from wealth to poverty ultimately resulted in the suicide of his father, who Cath was never really close to. But his father was currently the only person in his family with a job, so they fell even further into ruin.
Because of this, Cath had to support the rest of his family; his younger brothers, two of them, and his older sister, Jen, who did help him. His mother had died some time ago, far before any tragedy.
He's on his own, now. Not because of tragedy, but because he and his sister both decided it would be best for the family. Due to Cath's aggressive nature, it was hard for him to find a job that could support multiple people. But Jen had found a fair enough job that could support herself and there two little brothers. So, Cath moved out to his family would be a little bit better off.
Now he's known to drift from job to job. He's more than capable of supporting himself, being able to do just about anything that requires mainly physical strength. He keeps in touch with his family as often as he can. To his knowledge, they are doing just fine.

Weapon/s of Choice: Cathal is mostly a rough and tumble kind of guy. He prefers his fists to any other weapon. But he is more than capable at smacking someone with the closes piece of wood, etc.

Abilities: Cath is capable at taking extreme amounts of pain and exhaustion with out much of a problem. But this takes a toll on him, because he rarely knows when to quit while he's ahead, and can often land himself into the hospital, due to sheer stubbornness.

Anything else: Out of sheer randomness, he likes cats. He couldn't tell a person why, but he just loves the little fluff balls to death. He would never admit it to anyone, though. At least not on purpose.

Player Name: [Caution]
Character Name: Adria Anduin [ad-ree-uh and-win]
Character Nickname/Preferred Name: Adria or Addy
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Position: Queen

Appearance...
Hair: Adria’s hair is light orange, almost blonde, somewhat wavy and falls just above her shoulders.
Eyes: Her eyes are dark green with gold flecks mainly around the iris.
Skin: Her skin is pale and she has scatters of freckles on her shoulders and on her cheeks.
Figure: She’s 5’10” and weighs about 130lbs, so she’s a little curvy, well let’s just say all the right curves in all the right places. She’s toned, but her legs are a little more muscular.
[basically think Milla Jovovich from Resident Evil xD]
Other: She has a quarter-sized dark brown birthmark on her left hip bone and a 4 inch slash scar on her right bicep. Adria sticks to jeans and t-shirts during the day and a little leather while she works the bar. Queen wears tight black leggings with black leather boots that hit just below her knee. She has a deep royal purple belt and midriff-bearing top flecked with gold like her eyes. She usually wears a black leather motorcycle jacket over top and a simple black mask to cover her eyes.

History:
Adria comes from somewhat of a broken home, her mother, Julianne, and father, Callum, are still there for her but they aren’t really there for each other.

Her father left when she was 6 and she spent most her childhood with just her mother, who supported herself and daughter by working two jobs: secretary during the day and clinic nurse at night. In school Adria was a real charmer, her teacher’s loved her dearly and she had quite a number of friends.

When Adria turned 15 her biggest birthday present was the reappearance of her father. Julianne had never really explained why Callum left but when he returned he explained that he’d been struggling with a drug problem and didn’t want to take his family down with him.

Julianne never really accepted him back into her life but Adria was happy to and the two began to hang out quite a bit. Callum rented an apartment a couple blocks from where Adria and her mother lived so Adria spent most of her after school time catching up with her father.

Unbeknownst to her, Callum’s drug problem had started again and he’d gotten in a little trouble with the Ivory Corporation because of a couple shady business deals. Four years after her father returned to her, she almost lost him again.

Adria had gone over to see her father after school like normal but when she got there she found him splayed on the floor, a puddle of blood under his torso. A business deal had gone terribly wrong and her father was left to pay the price. He spent a month or so in the hospital and was discharged into Adria’s care.

Julianne was going into some harder times and had lost her secretary job and relied too much on her nursing which didn’t nearly bring in enough money to support her, Adria and now Callum. Adria took it upon herself and to find work and managed to get a job at a local bar, tending the midnight shift every other night. She worked there for a few years and once her father was better he took up work again but she continued to work.

Working at the bar taught Adria a very important life lesson: you can’t count on anyone to help you when you need it. She’d seen large numbers of people stumble through the bar, heard them rant about their problems: debt, death of a loved one, drug addiction, death threats, all of which had some connection with the Ivory Corporation. Adria vowed that if she found a way, she would help clear up the trouble the Ivory Corporation had caused in Unity City.

Weapon/s of Choice: Queen holds a 4 inch dagger in the holster on her left thigh at all times. She also holds her Beretta 950BS [ 6.25mm rounds ] there.
Abilities: She is naturally very agile and rather fast. She’s also quite adept at sneaking into places she shouldn’t.

Anything else: Adria is a very sociable person and uses her people skills to help her community in any way that she can. Her alter ego, Queen, uses those skills in a very different way. She’s seen as a seductress and an overall bad apple, the kind you’d love to get into bed with. While Queen is busy wooing the local bosses with death threats, Adria is off cleaning up the streets and trying to shut down drug hotspots. Adria is called Queen because of her demanding alter-persona.

Player Name Flynn_MacCallister
Character Name: Fion MacBhaird
Character Nickname/Preferred Name: Fion (Finn)
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Position: Joker

Appearance...
Hair: Mid-back length, dark, wavy
Eyes: Green
Skin: Fair
Figure: Slim, muscled, almost androgynous
Personality: Fion is generally very quiet and reserved, never raising her voice, never laughing aloud, never crying. She comes across as polite and calm: attributes which, coupled with enough intelligence to realise the advantages of working harder than was fair for what she was being paid, have allowed her to keep a much coveted cafe job for several years now.

Under this quiet, reliable mask, though, is a performer, a professional liar. She knows very well how to squeeze essential tips out of the Ivory Corporation employees who are basically the sole patrons of the cafe without seeming loud or cheap, and therefore opening herself to disapproval.

The Joker has a sense of flair and extravagance about... her. (It is not universally agreed whether this member of the group is male or female amongst observers, although we of course know the truth.) She displays an infuriating degree of cheekiness, but is always utterly silent.

Attire: Fion dresses as neatly as she can, though her clothes are often slightly worn, or mended, and her hair is always back off her face. She is quiet, but generally manages to come across as likeable and agreeable. And hard-working, which has allowed her to hold onto a much-coveted cafe job for several years. Of course, more or less the only people able to afford the luxury of going to a cafe are Ivory employees, and she takes full advantage of this fact.

The Joker, in stark contrast to Fion, is a rather extravagant-looking individual, in a black coat lined with red and gold, skin-fitting black shirt and trousers, leather gloves and folded-over boots, and a face painted in black and white, framed by black curls. The Joker never speaks, but often smiles, and moves like an acrobat.

History: Fion was not born in Unity City, but in one of its smaller satellite cities -- or, orbiting slums. Her mother was an on-again, off-again drug user, her father, well, even her mother didn't know. She managed to complete a basic level of schooling at the small, inadequate local school before her mother, in an act of desperation, decided to move them into the big city itself, hoping that there it would be easier to find work.

The Unity City school she was sent to after they moved was far bigger than the one she had attended previously, but was still small. The students were bigger and older too, and dealing with them rapidly taught Fion the value of being nimble, agile and athletic, if you were small.

After four and a half years, Unity City, with its proliferation of narcotics, had killed her mother.

Seventeen now, with whatever shreds of schooling she had been granted still incomplete, she inherited his mother’s rent and debts. At first she tried to keep up with the repayments, using his innate skills for performance to present himself as “precisely the right person” for any employment opportunity that happened across his path. However, there was no-where near enough jobs in NYC to allow him to be able to afford any of this, so he eventually ended up joining the multitudes on the streets. For a while, he drifted from one gang of starving teenagers to another, then eventually struck out on her own. Throughout this time, she continued to work wherever she could.

Eventually, she stole a dead man’s gun, which changed her life dramatically.

At first, she used the thing only to protect his own hide, and quickly learned an important rule: One bullet used correctly can return a whole clip. He soon possessed one each of the two more common types of handguns in the city, and, as his proficiency grew, he gradually began to take it upon herself to protect others when she came across them, rather than just keep herself alive.

It was not very long before she met the sword-wielding Ace. Admiring his passion, she came to share his vision, and managed to convince him that this vigilante business should be expanded. She chose for herself the symbol of the Joker -- the card with no fixed value or meaning.

Weapon/s of Choice: A handgun. She has two.
Abilities: She is very lightweight and agile, and has a skill for acrobatics.
