Hey everybody. Do you want to make DDR a sport. Did you know that Norway just made DDR an official sport in their country? If poker is a official sport of the US. why can't DDR be an official sport? Well the guy who made it a sport in Norway and started a DDR team is making a petition to make it a sport in the US. Please sign it, it only takes a minute and you don't have to be 18.
Here is the link to the page below.

http://www.petitiononline.com/DDRSport/petition.html

You may talk about making DDR a sport, say yes or no if you want it to be a sport, argue about it, or just bump! Would you join the DDR team in the USA if they did make it a sport?

1. It's been a sport in Norway for like four years now.

2. lol petitiononline. I promise that will fail.

3. I really don't see why it would need to be a sport. Thanks to ITG people are overly-competitive about the game as it is.

Oh I didn't know that. But making it a sport, they would broadcast it on TV, so more people would actually know what DDR is! And making it a sport would make it more united and they could start some official DDR teams in the US, so we wouldn't just be some people in an arcade playing for fun but competitively.

I don't think it will fail. Because the guy who made this petition was the guy who actually made DDR a sport in Norway and started the first DDR team, so he knows how to get stuff done.

You do all realize that there is no such thing as an "online petition" right? No real company or government will even consider them because they are so unreliable and easy to forge...sorry to pop your bubble but it's not real.

That's kind of like saying football wouldn't be well-known if games weren't played on tv. The only people who would watch DDR on television are the people who are interested in it. That wouldn't make it any more well-known at all. Not that it needs to be more popular, with the way it's becoming less of a music sim and more of a MIRACLE WEIGHT-LOSS FGSFDS, but that's an entirely different rant.

People have been forming DDR teams for YEARS. Have you never attended a tournament? Why would DDR need to be an official sport, when people have been forming teams and playing competitively since day 1?

Petitiononline was created so whiny internet users could feel like their voices matter. It's not like Norway said "Hey look, this intarweb petition says we should have some crazy-a** sport. LET'S DO IT!". Regardless of who it is that created the petition, it won't be heard.

Please no, its bad enough that it has a spin off TV show that has nothing to do with the game. Besides it's already pretty mainstream as is.

I'm not even American, soo...

If DDR was a sport, it'd get too popular and jack up prices or something. Not that it isn't already, but... I dunno. I just can't see it being a good thing. XD

How to make something an official sport:

1. Find a population that plays it
check

2. Form teams
check

3. Compete
check

4. Have national tournaments
check (3 a year that I know of, all held by different people)

But the RAVE Project is a much better team sport. 3nodding

Well, the whole tournament thing needs better organization, sponsorship, press coverage, etc. It's still in it's infancy compared to martial arts.
The US also needs WAY more machines....theres really not very many places to hold a decent tournament where you can have, say 4-6 machines going at once for several divisions which would make a real decent tourney.

Where do you live? Tournaments around here are organized and covered very well, and DDR machines are really freaking common in the US.
