I've always really thought a lot about dreams, thinking they had a great deal of symbolic meaning and also should be looked into for hints towards the future...I always feel that dreams have repercussions on who you are and what happens to you...I always feel that they're the truest embodiment of what's in your thoughts.
Nightmares...on the other hand are just that - horrors. Here it is...2:20 am. I have to be up in a little more than 4 hours so I can prepare for school. I've been asleep for maybe three hours and I'm still shivering so horribly I can barely close my eyes without seeing images that are making my eyes water right now.
I've had nightmares as long as I can remember...well...they may be based off of real-life events...some of them...but I can't say what those are.
Ever since I became closer to Gabriel, well since we started being in contact almost constantly, he told me, one night that something bad had happened, that no matter what happened, what time it was, where he was, or what he was doing, that if I was upset and needed to talk to someone, he'd always stop and talk to me. I was truly hesitant at first and...yeah...it's all but become second nature to me...I just got off the phone with him...despite the fact that this was one of his few nights off and he was actually able to sleep for once...I feel bad, but I know he'd say...((and he very likely will once he reads this)) is that I should never regret my actions, and that I should stand by them with pride, regardless of what they were.
Anyways...I think I'm rambling because he's a comforting thought. I'd really like to know everyone else's opinion's on dreams and nightmares. I have them constantly...and I would really like to get some advice if possible.
It's almost 2:30 now...I need to go back to sleep. So goodnight everyone...and thank you Gabriel.

Dreams are, indeed a very strange thing Kylie. They show us, at times, our exact subconcious thoughts, as you have said. Also they can be wondrous, presenting our fantastic imaginations before us, as Tai has seen.
I personally, believe that dreams show desires at times. Strangely enough, my dreams were commonly about people who I wanted to know, yet somthing restrained me from knowing them.
I cannot fully explain, as I do not truely know myself. It leaves much to be wondered, and it leaves me with a beautiful and sweet girl that I am free to walk with every night she graces my thoughts as I slumber.

It is true that we may desire things we are unaware of.....the sub conscious is quite mysterious, but somtimes grants us Knowledge through our dreams as Gabe said. I've also learned not to take all dreams completley serious.
For example: Yes i did storm murderously throughout a town slaying innocent and evil alike in a dream, but i do not interpret this dream as a craving to go out and cause mass slaughter with my blade. Unfortunatley some people take their drems TOO seriously...sometimes acting on the images they recieve in their sleep. This could be quite dangerous, and though dreams can mean something to those who look hard enough.....look too hard and you're just making things up.
It's almost like somebody looking up at a shapless cloud and shaping out a complex object through their own subconscious thinking....although.....Gabe's dream of corn flavored ice cream was QUITE intruiging blaugh 4laugh

If I'm not having a nightmare, I'm have a really screwed up dream.
Seriously. D: It's either nightmare, or something you'd think would be illegal in some countries.
But yes, I honestly think they represent something. Like, this one time, I had a dream where I was walking in this forest. And the deeper I went, the narrow-er the path got. The thorns on the bushes came up closer to my knees, and the tree branches got lower. It went on like this to where I had to crawl on the forest floor and get thorns in my eyes until I reached where the forest ended.
And guess what happened when I got to the end?
The light from the meadow scared me, and I ran back into the forest, and I was back where I started. :/
I think it represented something in my life, like a fear, you know? Or it might've been a warning to not run away later on in life. There's probably hundreds of meanings for that particular dream of mine, and I'll never figure it out. xD

I had a nightmare the other night. In my dream I was vending (or attempting to vend) on Gaia. In the MP I saw winged anklets for 22k, and then I didn't get them. But I remember what the shop keeper looked like. I know its not a scary nightmare but it was enough to wake me up and jump on Gaia to see if it was true xD [/comic relief]
I remember a few years ago back when I lived in Florida, I was in line at Albertsons and I was looking at the candy and the small pocket-books on the rack during check-out. There was a small blue book and it said 'Dreams and What They Mean' and I instantly asked for it. Unfortunately my mom said no, so I started cram reading. I was browsing the ToC quicky to find an interesting topic about dreams I didn't have any prior knowledge of. I saw in one of the middle chapters it told you how to continue a dream. I never got the chance to read it, but I'd love to know if anyone has any knowledge on continuing dreams.
I haven't had a lot of nightmares lately (luckily) so I can't really post a recent one. I do remember one from when I was 4 or so before I moved to Florida. In my dream it was pitch black outside, and I was standing before a house. I went inside the house, and the walls were white but there was a red light, so everything was red. I walked about 3 feet through the foyer and then made a U-turn to my right. There was a short hallway with three doors. Someone said to open one at a time. There was one behind another foot of wall that required you to make another U-turn to your left to see. Then there was one on the wall directly left of the hallway wall and then one slightly off to the left but close to being in front of where I stood. I opened the middle door and there was a bathroom--no big deal. Then I opened the third door (the one that was closest to where I had stood prior) and I saw black masses. Then faces appeared as did coffins. The faces were just big red square eyes and an evil smirk. The coffins had vampires in them. A vampire came out of one of the coffins and I ran out of the hallway into a dining room. On one of the adjacent walls was a door, but I was too afraid to open it. I ran past the dining room table, through the kitchen and saw a sliding glass door into the backyard. I ran outside and then I woke up. The scariest part about that was my house in Florida that we moved into a few months later was the exact same set up. The room with the vampires and the faces was my room for 11 years. How's that for a preminition? Now if anyone can tell me how my subconcious self knew what my new house looked like before I knew we were moving, please do share.

*hands cup of tea and plate of cookies to everyone* Seito chan in a rambling mood, so this post shall be large. Feel free to read it, or skip right over it. XD You have been warned.
Dreams are fickles things. XD Nightmares too. What seems like reality may not be what seems like an illusions might be real. People can write ten thousands different books on what your dreams mean but half the time it's really what to you.
Normally, I don't remember my dreams too well. The ones I do, well *shrugs* they're very odd. *nods* I've noticed that I don't have many dreams with myself as the main person and 4 out of 5 times, the dream takes place anywhere but reallity. But see that might just be due to my personality and who I am. I'm never the main character because I'm writer, the main character of the story is never suppose to be me. It never takes place in reality because I love anime and fantasy.
Now I've odd numbers of dreams. (When I say, I doesn't have to be me or rather just the dream interpretation of me.) I had one where I took over the world. And another where I blew up the world. ^^
I had even had a two part anime/action dream on different days. The first part takes place with the anime Bleach. Included Peacemaker characters and a bad guy from Law and Order SVU. It had my brother and his (ex) girlfriend too and my kendo sensei was wise leader in the bleach world. The most annoying part? It had me falling in love with one of the characters. *dies* (For those of you who don't know. Seito chan + boys = big no no don't talk me to about this subject of dating! i'm not ready yet. I'm not listening) [Seika: And yes, Seito is acting like a child at the age where boys are still icky and girls still have cooties. Seito: *Whacks Seika* >.>]
The second part included something (probably aliens) were either trying to blow up the world or take it over. Had all the same characters, even the "love interest" *growls* part from the first dream. O.o Yeah and everyone was running away on train tracks while a giant something followed us. Oh and the love interest turned into a love triangle just screwing up everything all the better.
Now to literally translate this dream: The reason why I having suffering "girl has crush on guy" dream: Junior Prom was coming up and I didn't have a date. The reason why I was running away: I cause I didn't really want to go Junior Prom in the first place. The reason why there was a love triangle: Because I had asked one guy and my friends decided to hook me up with two other guys (i should have taken those guys instead. >>) I have a detailed journal entry somewhere if you guys wanna read about how I embarrass myself in my own dreams.
A lot of my dreams I like to picture them as movies. XD (Again the odd things since most people are acting out their own dreams). And dreams have a huge influence on my writing too. A couple stories I've wrote were based off dreams. I'm just watching what is happening. like one of my ideas for a naruto story (that hasn't been written yet), I had a dream drawn in Miyazaki's style were a village was on fire and a boy and girl who looked like naruto and another girl from another anime were trying to escape a tall black shadow that looked like Orochimaru. ^________^
See aren't dreams fun?
Now nightmares... well I haven't had ones of those in a long long long time. The only one I remember was one of my dad's employee (who I call aunty) died. From cancer if I remember but there was something about her neck like cutting off her head or something was sticking out of her neck. And you're talking about like my aunty lying on a table with only a cloth to cover her cold dead body. (hmmm I must have been a little messed up when I was kid O.o) I remember I had a hard time looking at my aunty for awhile.
The end result? Well it's probably been at least 5 years+ since that nightmare. To my knowledge she's still alive and kicking somewhere. and I don't have the slightest problem watching movies like CSI that has these types of things right out of my nightmare.
So my opinion?
Dreams and nightmares are both fun and scary. You learn about yourself somethings or even a hidden lesson. But dreams are dreams whether they become real or not is really up to you. In my case I love my dreams (though I dislike my nightmares). For me they're just another creative outlet. But then again, that's why I'm a daydreamer. ^^

I've come for the cookies and tea. twisted (jking jking)
Dreams and nightmares are fascinating and, and Seito-san said, very fickle indeed. I've done some reading on this subject, as many dreams offer messages that just take some sifting to figure out, like Seito's anime dream (I had a Yugioh one back in middle school sweatdrop ).
There are many different kinds of dreams, three of which are creative, prophetic, and personal.
On creative dreams: Creative dreams are inspirational, especially in the arts. Many of the greatest artists have been inspired by dreams. I tend to have more of these dreams - sometimes my dream will play me a song that has never before been made, and I'll be singing it all day. One of my favorite authors, Terry Pratchett, says that he gets his best ideas "just before waking."
Prophetic: As the name suggest, they predict something. Shinobi, you said earlier that your dreams often come true; paying careful attention to your dreams might help you. Soloist - had you had the nightmare about the house at an older age it's possible that it would not have manifested itself as a nightmare - young children tend to have more graphic nightmares more often.
Personal: (I couldn't find a better word in my head for these dreams. sweatdrop ) These dreams are, basically, the unconscious (and I refuse to call is "subconscious" because it is in no way inferior to the awake state) revealing something about you to you. They can help you work through a problem, and they can reveal aspects of your personality, hidden fears, and so on.
It seems like many of these dreams you all talk about are combinations of these.
I like to interpret dreams, so could any of you know if I'm hitting anything correctly..? Yui san, I think your unconscious was telling you that there will be a struggle, and then a big change in your life - do not fear the change. Shinobi, I'm not sure what your dream means; it could mean that you might be attacked in a safe place, or a solitary place, so perhaps you should be on your guard. (I gave Gabe an interpretation of his corn ice cream dream in his journal, and I really think that the dream should be taken seriously, although that Made With Real Corn bit was comical 4laugh )
Alot of dreams have animals that sybolize something. Lately I've been having bad dreams - not nightmares, just unhappy dreams - which include deer doing things that only people can do (like hold hands :/). Not long ago I had one of these such dreams, where I was in a very young, brambly pine forest and I tried to approach a deer. The deer ran itself into a corner, and I followed, curious. Obviously the deer though I was threatening, because it began throwing rocks at me (yes, doing something it shouldn't), although I had no malicious intentions. So I decided the deer wanted me to back off, else it might do more to try to hurt me. At that point I woke up feeling drained and a little worried. What could it mean..?

I think that dreams show your wants, likes, and your inner self.
While nightmares are a way for God to scare the s**t out of you....or show your fears.
