His body was slowly vanishing from where he had died, the large bulky carcass of her father slowly being picked away by the scavangers of the oasis. She had noticed since he had died that a veritable flock of creatures she had never seen had slipped from the proverbial wood works. They feared her father. They did not fear her. She knew why, she was slender, even for her age she was small, she knew full well she would never be a great big lion. In retrospect, she realised her father was not large, he had simply trained himself to become this beast of power. He had made this oasis a place of fear and obedience. She couldn't do that. Although she was uncareing, certainly cold and definately ambitious, she was not ruthless, she was not a killer. It annoyed her to admit that to herself.

Slipping through the oasis on silent, pale tipped paws, the little princess searched for Moses. She knew what she wanted to do and Moses was coming with her. She had noticed that her body had grown, slowly she had risen towards a point in her life, she was ready to find her own niche in the world, she was ready to take the bull by the horns. With Moses' help of course. Where was he? Her tail lashed angrilly as she padded silently between the stone pillars, ignoreing the writing, it was a boring thing, the writing on the walls. She had grown amongst the stones and now they were nothing.

"Moses, where are you?" she hissed under her breath, tossing her lengthy fringe from her eyes to free up her violet vision. She had become an adolecent now, old enough to make her own decisions, old enough to understand the life she had been leading, old enough to see that ehr father, in a strange way held this place together, made it a some where. Without him, it was simply no wheer inparticular, and she did not doubt it would soon be an unpopulated place of ledgends once more, her father taking his place as one of them.

The male had grown too, it seemed as the princess grew, he did also, he was now an adult and deffinatly a strong one at that.
And yet the added strength did nothing to boost his ego.
At the death of Nyekundu, he could do nothing but stay indoors and think over what his next plan of action was.
Now that the King was out of the picture...what would he do?

His pure white coat stuck out in the dark shade of the ruins, eyes narrowed at the small rays of sun that dared to dapple across his coat before after an hour of just...laying there he decided to get up.
Huge mane becoming a distraction nowadays as he walked out into the sunlight, still technically a slave and yet something very regal about his appearance that followed down the line of the Mistweaver's he was displeased to say he was still apart of by blood.
But there had been rumours of a fire, could it be true? Could his home be gone?

As he walked out, a moving shadow caught his attention and he immediatly seeked it out, moving around the corner only to become face to face with the princess...oh my.
For the first time in his life, all he could do was stare at the figure before him, red eye's...empty...but almost curious.
As if they where questioning who she was and if she was truly the brat of a princess he'd gotten used to looking after?

She too stared, though only for a moment flickering her salmon bangs from her eyes she held her head high and returned his stare with a defiant glare. "You always manage to appear when I want you, thats what I like about you" She let a smirk creap accross her lips as she stood tall, trying, though clearly failing to be as tall as the now adult Moses. She couldn't help but admire his long black mane and blood red eyes.

Rolling her shoulders, for the first time in her life she decided to use a little tact with her bodyguard. "Will you walk with me for a little while?" She raised a questioning brow and started to walk, her adolecent body swaying, almost seductively as she went. She had gained all of her mothers beauty and brains, along with some of her fathers endless stubborness and ambition. She didn't glance back, expecting he would follow her. She hadn't told him to, but she thought he might. She had thoughts in ehr mind and this, her oldest companion, yes, he was certainly a companion, would hopefully listen, tell ehr the truth.

She would never admit she considered him friend. She was far too stubborn to call him anything but her body guard, but in this time of change, perhaps things had to change between them too. She licked her lips as if something disgusting had slipped past them. How far would she have to stoop for Moses to continue to follow her? Maybe she could simply, order him to? She rolled her purple orbs and sighed. She would have to test the waters with him. Oh he was coming with her. She would drag him by his, handsome black mane if she had to! She just, hoped, yes hoped she wouldn't have to.

Moses was lost in what seemed to him like an eternity, his brain almost ceasing it's functions for the exact time he'd spoken to her, before she walked on without him and he shook himself.
As if he'd just awoke from some dream, however as the heat beamed down on him, he realised that he'd been awake and his dream was the nightmare herself.
She'd just grown up...what was so shocking?

For a moment he almost cursed himself for acting like such an idiot, but, after that, he actually caught up to move along side her.
Eyeing her for a moment as the large lion almost dwarfed the adolescent.

However, in her eyes he supposed he would always be a small, insignificant slave.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Still, it was better then telling her the truth that she wasn't a Princess.

"Something on your mind, Princess?"

She did have something on her mind, she had alot on her mind. "You and I both know this place is about to die." She stated it, it was fact, she was no fool, despite what Moses thought of her. Violet eyes glanced at him, her long bangs falling in her eyes as she did so, this of course required another flick of her head to rid her vision of the pesky salmon flick. "I'm going to leave." She stopped her walking then, her brow furrowing slightly. She had lived in this place her whole life, it was technically home, but there were other things in this world that she had to see.

"My father informed me that my mother lives..." She trailed off, taking up her steady pace once again, her tail swaying slowly behind her. Licking her pale maw she slowly cleared her throat before taking up her speach once again. "I'm going to find her" she laughed, a sort of snorting laugh really, as if the words coming from her mouth, even to her sounded rediculous.

"Will you come with me Moses?" She stopped, once again, her toes pulling up the ground, she had requested instead of ordered him to follow her. Her tongue lapped out over her lips and she slowly tossed her head. Her lips opened "..." She was about to say of course he would, her father was dead. She had no rights over him any more, as much as she thought she did, as much as she longed for her body guard to stay with her, to follow her to the ends of the earth, to continue to treat him like the slave she had owned forever, something inside her knew she wasn't a princess any more, and the things she owned, were long gone.

In his mind, everything was stored away for a later date, every piece of information for another day to remember incase it was important.
So Afritti did have a mother then?
His same, deep, unfeeling eyes watched her as he walked alongside the petite adolescent.
He knew damn well this place was dead without Nyek', he was a tyrant, who ruled the Oasis with an iron paw.
However when he died, his kingdom crashed and burned.

But never the less, he continued to listen to the Princess.
Even though her laughter did invoke a weird look from him, if just for a moment or two.
Probably the most effort he'd put into a facial expression in a while.

Then...came her last question.
He had to pause in mid step before calmly placing his paw on the ground and staring at her for a few moments.
Moses was suprised himself, even if it didn't show, that she hadn't just assumed he would follow her.
This was a question that seemed to tear him two ways...and he hated it.
He hated having two halves of himself being drawn into different directions.

On one paw, he hated her, in a way a friend would hate a friend and yet still be friends with them.
All he had looked forward too while being her personal chauffer was just to be a General.
And now with no army in the picture, all he had left was just to become a rogue...

...But on the other paw...

He stared at her for a few more minutes before answering simply.

"Yes."

Taking a slow, deep breath, the salmon tinted ex-princess looked to the large male next to her, her deep violet eyes for once showed a glimmer of hope in them, a smile spread accross her maw and she nodded. "I'm ...glad.." Taking a breath she continued onwards, her tail swaying back and forth behind her. you'll help me find my mother, I trust you to do that.." Licking her lips once again she paused and placed herself in Moses' path, her ears forwards, her pale lips turned up, her eyes dark, hiding what she was feeling behind them. "You know we've been togetehr for a long time." a pause again, and an ucomfortable movement of her shoulders "Thankyou" She smiled a rather winning, even partially sweet smile at the red eyed, black maned pretty boy, a little smirk lifting those pale lips as she turned and continued her wanderings.

"Did you know this would happen? I look back now, my father, it's so strange how he made this place even though he was hell bent on his own plans, this place worked because of him. I wonder what will happen to my sisters." She scoffs then, a sarcastic laugh leaving her maw. "They'll probably all rot out here any way.." a short silence once again as for a moment she acctually admired the stones, she wondered why her father had come here, what had drawn him to this desolate place. He never did tell her.

"I suppose we have to get out of this damned oasis first hmm?" she glanced at him again, a cocky quirk to her brow. "You know the way don't you?" She smirked, this wouldn't be their game if she wasn't at least a little bit arrogant with him.

Moses looked at her as she stepped into her path, as if he saw her in a new light.
This once overly proud female had actually smiled at him?
No sneer or arrogaunt smirk? No possesiveness?
It almost made him feel he had the upperhand...if that was so how come he still felt weak in her presence?
Damn his heart and damn his mind for fogging his judgement!

"You don't need to thank me Afritti." He said, using her name for the first time in what felt like years.
His tone was the same, if a little...softer, then normal, while still holding that tough male facade behind it.

He didn't need to answer her question, atleast not in words, he simply gave a small nod.
Sooner or later, someone would've done something about Nyek'.
Somewhere deep in his memories, he new Maji and the rest of the Mistweaver males including his father, would've gladly tried to take him down.
But they hadn't.
They never got the chance.
Too busy taking care of what little pride there was left.

Her last question finally sparked something of a smirk out of him, if only for a few seconds.
Ofcourse, how could he have forgotten that trip?
Oh how he would've loved to see the look on his parents and siblings faces once they knew he was gone!
What a sight that would have been!

The arrogaunt tone she had, just made him remember what she was like in her younger years and he nodded softly.

"Yes, I know the way...but I don't want you leaving my sight." He said, as if almost a command.

Her tail gave a quick lash as he spoke to her in those sharp tones and she looked at him, glancing up and down that handsome form, his long flowing silky mane rolling over his shoulders. "It's a good job you're pretty" She gave a small, quip of a laugh then, as if she could do anything to Moses, her bodyguard, her friend, her only real friend, it hit her strangely that she could think of him thus. She acctually liked him, those dark brooding eyes, the way he stood up to her without acctually standing up to her. The fact that he would do anything for her even though he didn't have to and now, posessiveness? Had something changed?

"You know, I'm too big to be carried off by a vulture now." She chuckled quietly, she remembered that time well, he'd saved her that day and though, perhaps she knew he was just doing it because he 'had to' she had dubbed him her friend all that time ago. She'd perhaps even clung to the idea that he was her friend rather than just the body guard, the slave. He would always be hers, she would make sure of that, but they were equal some how now. He could be posessive of her, the same way that she could own him.

"I'll stay close, just don't get us lost, I really don't fancy boiling to death in the desert, it would ruin my fur completely." She laughed playfully then, a joke, she could joke around him now? Yes, they would be equal now "I know you'll look after me, out there.." She trailed off with a sigh, she had never had the wont to leave, but now, things were changing and her paws would lead her to new places she had never seen before and didn't particularily want to see. She would find a place in the world, but first she would find her mother.

Moses did not react at all to her words, a look of a purely serious lion staring back at her as he stood there before moving off further into the Oasis.
Crimson eye's wandering over the golden dunes, would it be the last time they saw the sight?
After all, this was her place of birth?
The place they met.

At her vulture comment he turned and looked at her once more.

"There are dangers beyond this Oasis, ones that are strong enough to kill a full grown lion...maybe even a pride...just look at your father."

His voice, it had the boldness it had when they where young and they'd first met.
But...it also had something else, as if the aura behind it was saying 'I don't want to lose you', but it was confused.
He even had to question his words for a moment as he paused.
Something had truly changed between them...but what was it?

Moses heard the joke but he didn't laugh, he wasn't one for the joker kind...mind you he wasn't one for the emotion kind either.
Very rare to crack a smile on this boy's face.

But as he lead her over the next dune, his eye's cast on the river he had been carried over when he travelled with Nyekundu and that strange cheetah so long ago to be here.
He let out a deep sigh and was about to set off before her last set of words almost paused him.
As if it took this long for them to reach his ears.

"Afritti...I will always protect you." He said, so smoothly, like some well oiled machine.
And once again with as little emotion as possible.

She smiled slightly, carefully, as she followed her large, dark maned body guard now, her body coming up beside his, her shoulder pressing lightly to his. "I'v always known you would." She let a little smirk cross her lips, though it was a cocky smile only to hide the emotion she held in her eyes. She knew things about Moses, that maybe he didn't even know about himself. The fact that he hid everything behind stoic words and cold stares didn't bother her one bit. She knew somehow what he meant to say and these new, posessive words he seemed to be blurting out at her made her smile quite alot.

She had certainly never felt this way before, and not about Moses either. With her fathers passing, something had changed, the world around ehr had changed and he had changed with it. he had become the thing she could rely on and trust, even more than she had as a cub and juvenile, clinging to ehr protector akin to a child. She was a child no more now, she was older, wiser, yet she still held to this promise, to Moses.

"Which way do we go Moses?" It was a simple question, the great jungle rearing before them, she hadn't exactly expected their journey to start so swiftly. They had walked and spoken and as they had done so they had travelled. She looked up at her protector, her male, her Moses a slight smile coming to her maw as she tugged at his mane with her teeth., he was still too tall for her to pull at anything else on his body. "I trust you." A strange sentiment but it was one closely followed by another of those cocky smirks, though ehr eyes spoke reems of what she wanted of him, to stay beside her, always, the way he had since she was a cub, though she would never beg him, she needed him there, she always would.

For once in his life, the cold male had to gulp slightly as the adolescent pressed her shoulder against his.
But thank the Gods it was barely audible, even to his own sensitive ears.
Even though he felt it, he couldn't hear it.
He'd become deaf too all the world except her for that brief moment.

Everything had changed for him.
She was no longer this narcissistic little brat that ordered him around, she had grown and so had he.
But everything inside of him was like some raging storm that he couldn't control.
He hated the fact that he had emotions, it was even worse to think he had some for Nyekundu's daughter.

To him, she was more a responsibility...he didn't have the word 'friend' in his vocabulary.

"Good question...hmmm." He said softly.

As he looked at the jungle while pondering her question, more memories briefly cascaded over his mind before he was brought out of them by a tug at his mane.
Letting out a suprised, but not angry, sound as his deep scarlet eye's looked at her curiously.

He took in the words of his protectee and for now, his companion, only to c**k his head curiously.

"We go into the jungle." He said, deep resonant voice rolling smoothly from his tongue before he lead her towards the river.

Well...not more a river, more a few puddles.
Since the dry season had come, the river would only reach halfway up their legs...well...HIS legs atleast.

Her slender body shivered slightly when she ralised Moses had gone unusually still with her touch. She hadn't meant to make him uncomfortable, she simply wanted to touch him, to give him ehr own posessive nudge, to grant him her scent. She was still young after all, though far from being a nieve cub, she knew what males wanted, she knew what her father did to all those females. She shivered. Moses wouldn't go wondering would he? Her dark ears twitched a little as she thought about him, her father, how he couldn't stop wandering off to find the next female. Pursing her lips she glanced at the pale, dark maned male, she had been betrothed to him really since that day so long ago when her father had requested he become her body guard, she had maybe even fallen in love with him when that vulture had attempted to turn her in to it's evening meal, she wasn't sure, she just knew he was hers. Nothing would ever change that. Right? Doubts were oolish, Moses was HERS!

Flickering her tail a little when he came out of his little daze, she flashed him a sweet, though knowing smile. "The river." Giving a nod she slowed so that she could walk at his side, her shoulder cassionally brushing against his to let him know she was there without words, to let him know she was close to him, that she wasn't going to stray any where.

When the river, or the remnants of the river reared before them, she looked down in to the slowly moving stream. During the wet seasons, this river was fast running and deep, but now, even the small salmon tinted femme could clamber down the bank and sqoosh her way through the mud. Looking back at Moses as eh toes sank in to the mushy damp soil beneath the low rolling tide she pulled out her tongue. "I think I would have prefared a swim." she laughs bolting accross the wide birth in a couple of swift, long legged bounds. She realised quietly, just how much older she was, that though she was still a petite lioness, and no doubt always would be, the river had been easy to cross and had hardly taken any effort. She was old enough now to look after herself, though she far from wanted to be alone. Looking back at Moses with a raised brow she flickered her tail and waited for him, her body set in a sort of, posing manner, so that he could look at her from afar, whetehr she was doing this on purpose, or if it was an automatic thing she wasn't sure but she caught herself posign for him and started to leap up the bank to hide the fact that she was embarressed.

What ever had changed, it was a change for the better, but it was strange these things she was feeling. Very strange indeed.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 04, 2007 9:01 am

Moses was more at ease in the waters, some deep held thing he'd gotten from his father's side of the family who had always been a loyal Mistweaver.
And...just the thought, he didn't know what it was about his family he didn't like, he loved his family to be sure.
But sometimes he wondered.
He sometimes wondered if he could even feel love, he could feel hate, but he had never felt it's opposing emotion before.

Atleast...he thought he'd never.

The lion really couldn't be sure of his emotions as of late, but he certainly knew that something had changed between him and Afritti.
But for better or worse, he couldn't honestly tell.

However as they approached the bank, he had to arch a brow at her posing at him like that.
Looking a little taken back, like he didn't know how to really respond before he watched her leap up the rest of the way before he followed.

Not really having to use a lot of his muscle to climb up the bank, it took a leap or two just to get up before he walked by Afritti's side and lead them both into the jungle.
His ear's instantly welcomed to the sound of the echoing bird calls and monkey shrieks that always seemed to haunt the skyward trees.

Afritti's ears tilted as she listened to these new sounds, these new whispered of the jungle, unfamiliar voices which echoed through the trees and strangely, called her deeper in to the darkened world of greens. Strange scents buffeted her nose and she sneezed even, as the new luxurious scents of flowers drifted to her pale nose. She was used to the scents of the desert, sand, dust, stones, sure there was green stuff but grass didn't smell nearlly as, wet? yes wet as these trees did. It was beautiful, a world she hadn't even imagined.

She was silent as they walked through this new world, a world she would probably get lost in should ehr paws lead her down the wrong path, but she found herself staying knitted to Moses, despite her wandering eyes, her shoulder pressed tightly against his. "will we rest in heer for the night?" The question was a strange one to her, she wasn't tired, she was simply, curious, all these strange, far away noises, all these songs which floated in to her ears, the scents wchich confused and dissorientated her sences, yet she found it to be the most wonderful place, a place she almost wished to explore if not for that tug on her heart.

She had to find her mother and she was not within these lands, she didn't know wheer the dark lioness was, the dark lioness with violet eyes and fur upon ehr neck like her own. She would find her one day, even if she had to travel the whole world to find her, as long as Moses was there, everything would be alright.
