Shenzi slowly made her way to the cliffs. Last time she was there, it had been a day or two ago with Gaius, when she had changed. Shaking her head, she adjusted the turtleneck. It was of light, thin fabric, the collar pulled up and over the lower half of her face, hiding the disfigured lip and feathers. There was a filmy scarf wrapped around as well. She had on a knee length skirt, her tail trailing from underneath. The chicken wings, though... Those came out through holes ripped in the back of the shirt. Not much else she could do with them.

She walked up towards the edge of the cliff, squatting down near the edge, holding her face in her hands. Shenzi just wanted to think, and she was quickly adopting the habit of coming here to think. Sighing to herself, she let her tail wrap around her ankles, tucking a strand of wayward hair behind a now feathered ear. "s**t..." She murmered under her breath. She didn't know what she was thinking...

Richard was not feeling particularly social able today had found himself unable to concentrate in his duplex. The side of the face still sported an angry looking bruise and the entire side of his face was tender, particularly his whiskers. So he had taken his stack of home schooling literature, "Education for dummies, Teaching reading grade 1-3 and Elementry math, with him to find a quiet place to hole up for the day.

He shunned his fishing hole, it was too close to the village and had been discovered by Seth recently, it wasn't secluded enough. He came into view of the cliff and was surprised to see someone squatting on the edge. He stared at the huddle figure trying to place her. The garish clothes, the naked wings and the slumped posture eventually added up to one person, a changed Shenzi.

By the time he had proccessed this he found himself directly behind her. He barely recalled walking up behind her. He had stalked her. Dammit.

"Shenzi." His whispered.

Shenzi jumped up and whirled around, her hair flipping past Richard's face, her feline eyes wide in surprise. She'd heard sounds, his footsteps, but hadn't been paying attention, so it hadn't registered that she wasn't alone. Shaking her head, she rubbed a temple carefully with a finger. "Ri-Richarrd." She mumbled, the name sounding like a growl under her breath.

Shaking her head again, she gave him a small smile, though the only visible signs of it was a small crinkling at the sides of her eyes. "Errr, hullo, Dědeček(Grandfather, honorific)."

While a gryphon had only been a guess before, there was no hiding the beast Shenzi was becoming. The feathered eyebrows, feline eyes and owl like ears had given her an appearance that to Richard were alien. Richard took them in for a long time, searching for the girl he knew. The features were there but they were nearly consumed.

He dropped his eyes with a sad smile. "Forgive me, its been awhile." How long exactly? A month? More?

Shenzi looked away, seeing the searching look, folding her arms across her chest. Turning, she looked over the edge of the cliff at the endless expanse of ocean. "Yeah, it hasss been." She said, wincing to herself as she heard the betraying hiss. "Umm, how've you been?" Shenzi asked slowly, thinking before she said anything, avoiding the irritating letters.

Richard quirked an eyebrow at the hiss but said nothing. The though occurred to him that the scarf might not be for warmth. He looked at her arm like protowings, taking them apart in his head, trying to conjure their final form in his mind. Eventually his own gaze drifted out to the sea as he thought about the events of the past days. "I'm been good considering. Got slugged by a giant squirrel the otherday which wasn't what I would consider a highlight but the newsletter went out a week ago. She was the first that objected to it." He gave a little chuckle.

"You see it? The newsletter I mean?"

Shenzi's eyes flicked back to him as he spoke, and the smile returned, hearing of the slugging. "Giant ssquirrrel? Who would that be?" She asked, grinning slightly. But then his next words made her frown slightly. "It'sss out? Alrready? Lasst I hearrd you werre sstill looking for people to wrrite about..." Shenzi said, her tone turning to one of confusion.

"Heck if I know her name, she didn't give it. Just thanked for writing the newsletter and then attacked me." Richard indictated the large bruise on the side of his face. "Acted like she had just done the world a favor." Richard was still absolutely bewildered by the mystery squirrel's behavior.

Richard gave her a look of concern. "How long have you been out here Shenzi? I left one on your doorstep last week."

Shenzi's eyes took on an odd expression now. "Lasst week? But, lasst week wass Chrrisstmass..." She said, falling silent as she looked at him. After a moment, she grabbed his hands, the scarf around her face slipping down a little, revealing a few feathers on her cheeks, a growingly frantic look in her blue eyes. "What day iss it? Richarrd, what'ss the date?"

Richard had not expected that and drew back from her, snatching back his hands from her talons. "Shenzi! Calm down!" It was a bark, a growl and an order.

"Its the 21st of January." He said after a moment, once his own composure had recovered.

Shenzi fell back slightly as he snatched his hands away, his voice a rough, surprising growl. "The-The twenty firrsst?" She asked dumbly, a stupefied look on her face. After a moment, she dropped onto the ground, shaking her head and trying to think. "No, yessterrday wass the thirrd..." Shenzi frowned, still shaking her head. What happened to almost an entire month?

"Oh dear. Do you remember anything? Like being taken to the labs?" Now worried Richard eased himself down next to her. He put a hand on her back, between the wings, feeling the feathers under the shirt. "You must have gotten sick." Like Tommy had. "How do you feel?" That was a loaded question he knew but one he had to ask.

Shenzi stared out over onto the water still, thinking of an appropriate response. "I feel... Fine." She said, coming to that with a small start of surprise. She wasn't really in any pain, which was surprising, but it did sort of explain her time lapse.

"Jusst... Deprresssed I guesss." Shenzi said, recalling her thoughts from when she had gotten back to her duplex after meeting with Gaius. A small shudder shook her shoulders as she remembered that, and how she had sort've just fallen over in her bathroom. "Maybe ssick."

"Well best not dwell on it, your back now. Thats the important bit." Richard tried not to think about a gravestone with Shenzi's name on it. The image appeared in his mind anyway. He tried to think postive, find a joke or something. "Yeah I know about the depression. But you have to remember that mirrors are not good things to smash. They bite back." He lowered his tentacles to show her the fading scars along the backs of the clubs. "I highly recommend desks though, once you claw through the lamination on the top they feel pretty good." He talk with a bit a smirk, an edge of dark mirth in his voice.

Shenzi gave him a small smile, again, realizing he probably couldn't see it. All he could see of her face was what was still human, from her nose up. Hesitating for a moment, she slowly unwrapped the scarf from her neck, pulling down the turtleneck. "I don't think I need a mirrrrorr to help with thiss." She said slowly, the feathers surrounding her neck frilling out of the collar.

"A mirrrorr won't change thiss, though. Or my voicce." Shenzi said, a bitter note entering her voice as she silently cursed at her disfigured speech.
