((For Emer and Miller!))

Miller had been living with Awen for a few days now, while he found having someone to play video games with was nice he figured that it had been time to get his door fixed, but the call to the labs hadn't gone over quite so well. It seemed as though the labs were in on the little prank war and he was on the losing team.

He sighed as he wandered past the edge of the village not to far from his own duplex taking a familiar path that would eventually drop him off near the lake and near 'his' tree where he could think things over or even just get away from everything. "Whyz every thingz gota be suchz a pain roundz here..." he sighed as he started up the side of his tree. "I ain'tz done nothing to the labz and they won't helpz me at all!" he gave a grunt and a hiss as he finally settled in his perch were he could sit back and watch the sky through the branches. "I justz wana go home..."

Emerwyn had returned wearily and silently home the previous evening, thudding silently beside Ian without a word. Ian was naturally highly concerned of her, so she relayed to him the events of the day. Conveniently, she had forgotten to mention that Gaius had shoved her. It would not be wise to inform Ian that someone, some male, had caused her physical harm. She smiled and sighed after he'd fallen asleep. She loved the man dearly, but he was - well, a man.

The next day, she'd set about to take her usual walk down the river, sometimes veering off. She was slightly troubled at the fact that even though she had indeed gotten quite enough restful sleep last night, she still felt a strange weariness about her. Perhaps she was falling mildly ill. All these changes of atmosphere, both physically and mentally, can be quite draining on a person.

As a result of this unforseen fatigue, Emerwyn found herself forced to sit down and rest before returning to the river to refresh herself. She found a sizable tree, and sat down against it, resting her head and humming idly to herself. Although she never did hum idly, so really it would only seem that way to whatever small animal might pass her by.

Miller continued to watch his small patch of sky when something caught his attention, much like the last time he had met Emerwyn it was only because he had heard her in the woods near by, this time she was only a few feet below him.

He didn't say anything at first, the humming was actually rather nice seeing's how he couldn't charge his ipod at his own duplex. When Emerwyn finally did quiet down of her own will Miller lead over in his branch trying to spot the girl below. "Nowz why youz gona stop hummingz? I kinda likezed it..." he said with a bit of a smile.

Emerwyn blinked a few times, torn ever so slowly out of her soft reverie. In any other situation, she would have lept up and run from the bodiless voice, but her mind was in another place, he body needing much rest.
She looked up slowly, moving around to adjust her view, then smiled softly. It was Miller.

"My blue angel is watching over me, I see," she said.

Miller shifted about in his perch a bit more so he could watch Emerwyn easily while still being comfortable with a smile. "Nowz I wouldn't say I wasz watchin' just listeningz to the nice music." He tilted his head to the side still smiling a bit, "So what bringz you out toz the angelz tree today?"

Emerwyn's smile broadened at this. It had been a while since she'd had any musical admirers.

"Oh, I was simply walking, as I like to from day to day," she said conversationally. "However, walking today seems to have caused me a fair amount of physical distress. I must wait it off before I can return home." It was true, that while she spoke with her soft, eloquent voice, there were notable traces of weariness, as though she were sighing in her words.

Miller shifted again as Emerwyn explained her usual walks, not much different from his own except his offten lead him to this very tree and back to his duplex.

"I'dz offer to havez you stop byz mah duplex forz something to drink if youz needed..." he sighed, "Butz I'm sortaz locked outz at the time beingz." He flopped down on his back at Emerywn's feet stretching his arms and legs out in a cat like manner. "I don'tz mind living withz Awen but I wish I couldz at leastz have my own duplex back..."

"I thank you for the offer at any rate, Miller," Emerwyn said graciously. "However, it would not have made much of a difference anyway. I am no longer living in the duplexes. As a matter of fact, I hardly return to the village at all anymore... but may I ask," she went on curiously. "Why is it that you were locked out of your room?" The people at the labs were truly a ruthless, albeit confusing, bunch.

Miller rolled over eyes going wide with curiously, no longer living in a duplex? He couldn't stand being with out his for four days living in the corner of the entertainment room or the cafeteria.

His curious look quickly died away at the questioning of hid duplex, "Er... wellz, itz not the labz fault... not all of itz. I kinda madez trouble with another islander... she jamed mah doorz lock and I can'tz open it... the labz said theyz won't replace it any timez soon either." He said with a sigh.

So in a way, Emerwyn told herself firmly, it still was the labs fault Miller did not have access to his room. She was still struggling, coming to grips with the fact that not all of the Islanders held the acceptance in their hearts that Emerwyn so cherished. How could they, in a situation such as this? They had no other choice; the Islanders were all they had left in the world. They were precious, each and every one of them. She echoed Miller's sigh.

"I am sorry," Emerwyn said. "I personally have found the jungle to be much more hospitable, and comfortable." Additionally, I do not have to worry about the size of our bed, she thought to herself with an inward smile. "I believe you will come in time to see just how perfectly serene it is."

While Miller did indeed blame the labs he still put more of it on Antony simply out of the fact that none of this would be happening if Antony hadn't ever jammed the lock in the first place.

"Wellz, I gota say I do enjoyz mah tree." He shrugged a bit, "Butz I don't thinkz I could LIVE in itz, no thatz be too risky, fall outz snap mah neck or somthin if I tried that." He turned to regard Emerwyn smileing sadly, "The junglez lovely but itz just not forz me yet... not like that at leastz."

Emerwyn nodded. "I have only just recently taken up permanant residence here. It wasn't until I was reunited with Ian that we decided to move, to make living together a great deal more comfortable." Indeed, they had made their little clearing home in the jungle quite nice now, combining the old 'comforts' of their duplexes with the outdoors. It couldn't be a more perfect place for the two of them to live.

Miller sighed again as Emerwyn mentioned being reunited with Ian, he could only wonder then if he would see Kikue again and be lucky enough to finally be well, happy or at least some point satisfied with it. "Well I'm gladz too hear your doingz well for your selfz out there in the jungle." While he was happy his voice seemed to say other wise.

Emerwyn's face turned concerned at the obvious hint of despair. "Come down here, Miller - descend, please. Something, I fear, is troubling you." She gestured with a hoofed hand for the bird boy to come out of his tree, and to sit beside her.

Miller nodded and moved down his tree slowly before takeing a set beside Emerwyn with another sigh. "So many thingz bother meh..." He mummbled while bringing a hand up to massage his forhead. "On one handz I gotza crazy squirrle girlz who I thinkz is out to ruinz meh life. I'm turningz in to a birdzy and the labz ain't bein any helpz." He leaned back against the tree slumping down a bit. "Andz to top it off Ki-kuez is missing, either shez gone feral out herez... or inz the labz or..." he started to choke thinking about the mutilated corpses in the clearing wondering if one day he would find Kikue there. He sniffed a bit trying not to cry, but his eyes watered up none the less. "It'z not right... whyz... whyz thiz happeningz to uz? Wuzh wez do to dezerve it..." his speech slurred more in between each little sob.
