I know a lot about your "Magickal name"
~Some use it to separate your Everyday Self from your Physical Self. ~It is not necessary
Now, I've also heard that it's dangerous to tell your Magickal name due to it enables people to hex you quicker and easier.
Is this true?

humm...Id be interested in finding out more =D could you write some more about it?
anyways, if what Im assuming is correct its a name you more closely identify with than your own, so its closer to your spirit...and if names are important in spells involving another person, sometimes harmful spells, then I would assume they would work better.
but if you trusted someone enoguh to tell them something thats of such importance then they really shouldnt be going around hexing you xD

Basically its to help separate you from the everyday world. Some have their goddess' name in it. Example: Diannadewdrop
Some have it of their totem animal Example: White Tigress
Some ave a name that just came to them Example: Rosemaiden
Mine is of a foreign language (French) I found it on a website and it just seemed really beautiful to me.
I made something that I'd like to use as my footer in my posts and it has my Magickal name.

Magic works how you want it to work. If you put enough energy into your magical name so that it does hurt people when you tell them, then it will.
But if you don't want it to, then it won't. Don't believe me? My "magical" name is Sorrowsong. I don't actively use it. It's a spare name of another persona that I use when needed. Otherwise, I don't change my name when I do magic. Why? I feel that I, myself, am magical, and I want magic to be incorporated into everything I do. I use my real name. But it's all up to the person who does it.

I must be a dummie, but how do you get your magickal name? Do you make it up or do you have to use a certain spell to know what it is?

Usually your name is something you keep within your coven as a sign of trust and power. But some people like to tell others and that's their choice. Really names are just that-names. They don't effect what a person does to you unless you believe it will.

My name is my screen name on many websites, including this one. I also resonate with my given first and middle name together. I don't keep them secret. It's not that I don't believe that names hold power. It's just nobody ever tries to hex me, and I don't see why they would. Besides, I'm very protected and not afraid of that sort of thing. 3nodding

How you recieve your magickal name really depends. For some, they simply pick names they like. Others, like myself, find names that have a meaning for myself and then check it against their numerology. Others are given names before hand by their designated deities. One I know was names by her patron deity before she was born.
I don't tell my magickal name often because no one ever uses it anyway. I only know two other witches in real life, and one simply dabbles. So, its not a part of my everyday life to connect it to me, nor my identity. Basically, my magickal name isn't that importent to me right now.
As for it allowing other's to hex you easier, that depends on hpw you look at it. On one hand, it could be a tighter tie to you because that is a name that was chosen by you (or your deity) and therefore is bonded closer to your spiritual identity-on another hand, it could hinder the process because that isn't your given name and isn't technecally a registered part of your social identity, what a lot of hexes target. So... iono. Ive never tested it. sweatdrop

I am not sure, but I think mine might be Naibi(to foresee). It's my middle name, but I didn't think it was important till I saw it used in the guild. And i asked my mom why she picked that name, and she said she couldn't have, because she was passed out after birth. And my dad wasn't there... She said she wanted me to pick it, but when the paperwork came back someone had already wrote Matthew Naibi James in flowery handwriting on the forms, she said. And is written wierdly, I looked at it in my baby book. The writing has not faded yet, but the paper is old. And when I look at it, I get a kind of taste in my mouth, and all I can think of is burnt feathers.
Oops, kinda went on longer than meant to.

that's an interesting story and mysterious as well. . . there are some names very familiar to me but i really dont know. i usually try not to name myself with lots of names, that causes "split personality" things.not so strong to take me to hospital but keeping talking to myself is not fun.

That would be me. xd Before anyone asks, no, Azhreia Jenah is NOT my magickal name. It's the name of a character in a story I was once writing. However, my magickal name was given to me in my first life by Apollo. According to Him, it means "beloved star child". Because it was given to me in my first life and my soul has carried it since then, I have come to believe it is my True Name.
What's the difference? A magickal name usually only applies to your current life, even if gifted by a deity. A True Name is just that, your True Name. It's the name your soul has been known by since day one, and shall continue to be known by until the end. All people have a True Name, but few ever discover their own.
Now, if you're familiar with the Laws of Magic (no, NOT Gardner's 161 laws), you'd know the Law of True Names: knowing the complete and True Name of an object, being, or process gives one complete control over it. This is because your True Name represents the very core of your being, and is thereby a direct link to your Center. This is why it is believed that cursing would be easier when using it.
However, as I said, there's a difference between your magickal name and your True Name (unless you're like me and actually USE your True Name as your magickal name). As linked as you may feel to your magickal name, that bond will never be as strong as that which is shared with your True Name. While it COULD aid someone in cursing you, it won't help THAT much.
As for me, nah, I have no problem with people knowing my True Name. If someone wants to use it against me, I say bring it.
