The beaver was bored. And trying her hardest to not be depressed. After that dream the other night...well, it wasn't easy. The dream and the change had brought home (once again) the sheer magnitude of what had been done to her. She could never go home again. And even if she could, she couldn't bring Stewart with her.

And here she'd thought she'd come to terms with their relationship months ago. Why now?

Chana chewed her lip as she thought. It seemed to help her focus...or was it just the beaver taking over? No! She wasn't giving in to the animal. She could focus just fine!

She winced as her front teeth bit into her lip and she tasted blood. There was probably....something else she could find to chew on. Not wood! Today she was in no mood to comply with the beaver's instincts!

Chana wandered into the entertainment room. She hadn't been in there since...since she met Tommy was it? She couldn't remember. All the days and the people blended together after a while. Ah well. Maybe she could find a suitable movie to watch or something.

As Chana was debating with her animal Instincts, Marshall was sitting in the entertainment room, NOT in front of the TV he usually watched. Oh no, he was far too distracted to sit down and watch Lord of the Rings for the sixth time this week. Part of him was still angry at Gaius, he was still angry at Oz, and he still had to find the blond-haired girl with pointed ears. Not an easy feat for the one-armed penguin.

So, after fourty minutes of looking for a blond-haired, pointy eared girl, Marshall found himself in the entertainment room. His book, Judaism for Dummies was open in front of him; he wasn't exactly paying attention to it, but it allowed him to collect his thoughts.

Mind you, Marshall collecting his thoughts was about as efficient as a one-armed monkey trying to herd a bunch of cats.

The beaver browsed around, intent on the movies, when she realized, quite suddenly, that she was not alone.

"Oh! Um...hello there," she said, studying the...um...penguin with a cast. (What had happened to him? Was it anything like what had happened to Awen?)

Curious, Chana craned her neck as far as it would go for a better look at his book. Manners were forgotten for the moment.

Marshall looked up, a little surprised; he was sure he was alone in here! He blinked, greeted with a giant...beaver. Well, that wasn't really bizarre; he did just meet a dolphin-boy several days prior.

"Um...Hi there." Marshall said awkwardly as he noticed her looking over his book.

He seemed nervous. Now why...oh!

"I'm sorry, I'm Chana," the beaver apologized for her oversight. No wonder he seemed a bit uncomfortable. She manuvered her new bulk around so that she was next to the man, not behind and to the side.

Coincidentally, this gave her a better view of the book. Which, when she read the title, elicted a snort. "Judaism for Dummies? And here I thought I'd seen the worst those books could dish out. Is there anything that's actually useful in there?" she asked. Her tone indicated that the beaver privately thought the book was not worth the money.

If Marshall's face wasn't covered in black feathers, it would've been easier to see his blush forming. Not because Chana was talking to him, but because of what she was saying about his only real clue to his religion.

"Um...Uh...Well...I'm kinda learning, and y'know, there's not a synagogue on the island or any thing, so um...I'm Marshall, by the way." Marshall said, not sure why he was so embarrassed. Perhaps it was because no one actually knew he was Jewish?

Another snort. "There's no church on the island either." But there was a priest...

But that line of thought brought her far too close to the dream. She shook her head and turned back to the penguin.

"If you really want to learn that badly, why don't you just ask me?" the beaver suggested. "As far as I know, there's no other Jews on the island."

"You're Jewish?!" Marshall exclaimed, a little too enthusiastic for his own good yet again, "Erm...Sorry...Its just, outside of Anatoli I didn't know there were any other Jewish people...Or um, sorta-semi-Jew in my case." Marshall said with an awkward chuckle.

Oh. Well. That made more sense now. He was one of those people who'd probably never even thought about going to Sunday School. But who was Anatoli? Eh, didn't really matter. The beaver hadn't met all of the islanders...maybe someday though.

"Yes, I am Jewish," she admitted, a bit more cheerfully than she'd been since her change. "I'm no rabbi, but I know a few things."

"Um...W-Well..." Marshall began, "...Whats um...Whats the next holiday...Coming up?" He stammered. He wasn't even sure why he was so embarrassed. He didn't know any thing about the religion other than his mother was Jewish.

Chana cocked her head slightly as she thought. It had become a habit on the island to simply ignore the calendar for the most part.

"Technically speaking, the next holiday is Shabbat, which is every weekend from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday," she informed him, eyes twinkling a bit. There was nothing like teaching about what she loved to lighten her mood.

"But the next annual holiday is Tu B'shevat, when we celebrate trees. Kinda like Earth day, or Arbor day...it's good for recycling."

Marshall nodded, "Tew-bish-vat. Okay." Marshall said, sounding it out. Hebrew was, in his opinion, a very strange language. "So, its a holiday for trees and stuff? Sounds nice enough..." Marshall murmered, mostly talking to himself. Thats when he finally remembered what he was supposed to be doing!

"Oh, you haven't seen a blond girl with pointed ears around here, have you?" Marshall asked, suddenly.

"Yeah," Chana agreed. "My synagouge would have a seder for Tu B'shevat, featuring all sorts of fruits and such. The kids loved it."

Then he asked about a blond girl with pointed ears. "Blond? Um..." the beaver paused to think. She hadn't met many blonds on the island. Cassidy certainly didn't have pointed ears...but Lauren did!

But she hadn't seen Lauren since...since...it had been a long time.

"Um, no, not in months. Sorry," she apologized. Come to think of it, she wasn't even sure what duplex the girl was in.

"Months?" Marshall blinked, surprised. She only had pointed ears...What if her transformation was delayed or some thing? Marshall let out a sigh, "Erm...Sorry. I've just been looking for this blond haired girl with pointed ears for a while now. I need to apologize to her." Marshal explained, unaware of the fact that they were talking about two different people.

"So...A See-dar? Thats um, like a buffet, right?"

"Yeah. I haven't seen Lauren in months. I bet you can ask around to find out her duplex number though," the beaver informed her audience, unaware of any other pointy-eared blondes on the island.

"No. Say-dar. It's not a buffet...it's...well...a formal dinner. Like the Passover seder." Yeesh! No wonder he was reading a Judaism for Dummies book! She'd never met someone who didn't know what a seder was before!
