It was getting late.

He knew that...

There was nothing he could do about it though, and as the male narrowed his eyes, squinting against the dense foliague, he cursed the fact he could not reorder time, space and climate to his liking. Sometimes, just sometimes, Othieno wished he could pause his hectic life and think about what he was doing, but as of late, there was no time. Moving from here to there, roaming, roaming, roaming... there was no rest, and all the places they visited seemed to cry out in diferent ways

Looking off to his side, the hyena flicked his black tail, "Oi, Enok..." a hind paw reached out to kick the larger mass of brown furr that was snorring loudly beside him, "Yer gonna scare away the hunt, mate! Those snore sound almost like roars!" the tone used was nothing short of afectionate, as if he were talking to family, more amused than agriviated by the sholw procedure.

The large lump in question, whom in fact happened to be a male lion, uncurled from his position, mumbling something underneath his breath before he peeked one eye golden open, "I'm up, I'm up..." the words were slurred by sleep as the large frame moved and stretched. Despite still not being an adult, the male was bulky, his movements however, rather soft, almot as if he feared breaking something with his movement. In fact, he paused slightly as he paw almost came down upon a flower once he stood up, slowly redirecting the paw to land to the side of the delicate petals, "It's not like I'm gonna scare much away anyhow... we've been here two days and we've not seen a soul, prey excluded," finaly sitting down, he set about to grooming his mane into place, purring as he tended to himself.

"That's no reason to scare da lovely birds away! Specialy the pretty ones!" the hyena held up a paw and began to lightly hum to himself, "It's gettin' dark too, ain't it? 'Bout time we got some food eh, Enok?" a muffled grumble was all the answer the hyena got from his companion. Obvious the lion didn't quite feel like it just yet, the Othieno finaly rolled his eyes, "Come now, we can't just sit here in this jungle all day as if it's suddenly going to split and reveal some bleedin' secret, can we? We should leave."

"It's a better place than that drying jungle you lead us to; This one's alive, and has pretty birds, as you mentioned."

A pause followed before the hyena arched a brow, "Touché..." looking away he attempted to figure out what time of day it was by what little light filtrated itself through the canapy, "I still think we should leave; can't get too attatched to someplace that's not home, yah know?"

"What home? We don't have any..."

"Precisely my point! So let's go hunt!"

Again the lion mumbled, then flopped his large bulk on the ground, placing his head over his paws before closing his eyes.

"Please don't tell me you're gonna go ta sleep again!" a pause as Oth waitied for a reply, "Enok?" Silence greeted the question, "Hey... Enok?" again the hyena kicked his companion with a hind leg, but this time there was no reaction to it, despite the canine knowing his larger friend was wide awake, "Yes, let's just sleep the day away, marvellous idea; why couldn't I have found a pretty girl to run off with instead of you? At least then sleeping would be quite the activity!"

Heedless of the time of day or night, or whatever the heavens had decided to do this time, a short distance away from them a little spot of purple played. Well, most would call it playing; she knew that what she did was of vast importance to everyone--they just didn't know it! She thought she had beaten back her great foe this morning only to have him double his efforts and spring upon her that afternoon. Oh how tricky he was, the dasterly King Ivy!

Izulu growled at her foe, eyes narrowing at a stereotypical villians monologue that only she could hear. Her mane and tail puffed a little, deeply angered at his presumptuous tone as the birds watched about her, somewhat amused and scared at once at the strange littly hyena. of course, they'd seen ehr out here before. Unlike most members of her Pride, Izulu loved slipping out into the junble beyond the borders.. and it wasn't as if it were off limits, anyway, so long as she didn't bring anyone back with her. But rules were the least of the things on her mind right now, only the safety of her family concerned her.

The evil Ivy stood proud and straight on the tree it'd wrapped itself about, leaves waving in a mocking manner at the lightning marked hyena. Her growls went unheeded as the monologue continued. A small bark heralded her ended patience, "SILENCE FOUL DEMON LORD!" She roared, leaping forward the claw at the plant and rip it from the hapless tree. A great battle then insued, much to the delight of her avian audience. Snarling and snapping at the plant, Izulu soon found herself wrestled to the ground, paws tangled in the fines of the plant as she chewed on its leaves and attempted to worm herself free. "You will not defeat me!

The commotion went mostly unnoticed till Izulu's shout of 'SILENCE FOUL DEMON LORD!' rippled through the air. Both Enok's ear and Oth's head shifted to face the general direction from which the yell came from, the hyena arching a brow at his feline companion only briefly before sitting up, "Yah heard that, Enok?"

"I'd have had to be deaf not to hear it, Oth, but francly, I don't care to find out where that came from, the tone was defenately female," this said, the lions ear flattened back slightly as if to bar any further nonsense sounds, were they to come from the same direction, "That's right up your alley though; Damsel in distress, better go help her, Oth... you never know what a nice lady will offer you for your help. Maybe this time it won't be a slap or a kick like that serval and that antilope offered," yawning, he curled his head so that it was partialy hidden under a large paw.

The lion's growning mane hid away most other facial features, though the hyena was almost sure his friend was smirking at this point, "Blah blah blah," came Oth's snort as he stood fully up, his hind foot reaching to scratch at the base of his own neck, doggy style, "One day somethin' you say'll actualy be funny to others not yourself; that day I'll applaud you, mate," this said the male took his leave, trotting through the dense vegetation, having not spared his lion friend a second glance. It was soon enough that he neared the source of the commotion, growls and yips being heard from just beyond the bushes. Though relatively strong, Othieno took his precautions, lifting his maw into the air, testing the air before he rounded the spot, finaly peeking his head through the dense foliague.

Only to find a purple hyena tangled in some weeds.

This was not what he'd be hoping for, as was brutaly aparent by his startled expresion; at first he was almost half ready to sneak away from the female, knowing full well he never had gotten along well with those of his spiecies... too many diferent points of view. However, part of his mind practicaly demanded he at least help her, or ask her if she was okay, for otherwise he'd be just as bad as those that cast him away for his strange ideals, "Yoh," it was almost sighed out loud as he finaly stepped through the vegetation, keeping his distance from the female, "You okay thar?" idly he almost pondered asking if the vine was a worthy oponent, but swiftly decided against it; female hyenas were quite vicious, from what he's seen.

This one was small, but still he maintained his distance, "I do believe you've been defeated, love."

"Never!" Izulu barked in reply. She didn't question someone having come up during her fight, then again she never question much of anything. The vines tangled about her still proved hard to get out of, but she wasn't about to give up. Izulu hadn't even spared a look to the new comer, hind paws kicking at the base of the tree where the plant held its roots.

There was a slight snap as one of the vines, wrapped somehow about her ear, gave way. That was the key that made the rest break away, and Izulu jumped to her feet. She wobbled once, fell, got back up and tugged her last paw away from the plants twining about it. The pretty purple hyena gave a twirl of a jump, facing the bedraggled plant, and jumped upon it to give it a few last shakes and scratches. "WAHAHAHA, IZULU HAS TRIUMPHED!" crowing her announcement, the hyena bounced a few times, making a circle about the base of the tree. She proceeded to stomp upon the dead plant a few times for good measure, gave it a scratch with her back paw, and finally let her eyes rest Oth.

She blinked, maw torn between a grin and a look of confusion. Eventually, Izulu'umdansi took a few steps towards him, neck craned forward as she began to sniff. Eventually she gave a great giggle and grin, tail and bum waggling a little with mirth, "You look funny!"

He watched silently, a brow arching at the display before him, however, it wasn't till her voice was directed towards him that he finally answer, "Oh, really now, love... what a coincidence; I think you look rather funny yerself," his eyes roamed behind her, towards the defeated vines and branches, as if to prove a point but taking into account her previous actions, it'd no doubt go ignored.

Despite everything however, Othieno was torn between feeling amused and feeling somewhat... let down; it wasn't the fact that this wasn't' an adult physically, but rather, the fact she seemed much like an overgrown pup. Mentally, at that, which obviously didn't serve his cause in the least; alas, he indulged himself into smirking, "Right, and what's thy name, Oh Great Warrior of the Tree Vines?" still wearing the same smirk, for after all, he could never let an opportunity for something interesting pass, he bowed, his neck touching the floor as he kneeled his front right paw awkwardly, stretching his left one straight in front of him, "I am thy servant; my name is Oth, love."

He couldn't help himself. Not really; it would've been like asking a fish to not breathe underwater. It was beyond him. He'd always liked children anyhow; not in the same way he liked female, but they were doubtlessly entertaining nevertheless, now weren't they? The way Izulu was waggling her bum in compass to her tail was more than enough proof of this for Oth.

"What the hell?" the voice that drifted from behind the grey hyena sounded confused, almost startled, "All that racket and all I find is a hyena playing with some weeds?" the lion slowly stepped forward, his frame towering easily over both hyenas before his gaze lowered to the still bowing Othieno, "And what exactly are you doing?"

"I'm bowing, you dumbass."

"Bowing...."

"Bowing."

Riiiiight. Allowing himself to sit down, Enok merely rolled his eyes. Sometimes he wondered. Sometimes he really wondered...

SHE looked funny? Izulu was enough of a female to be vaguely offended by that. The affronted look didn't last more than a second, though, as he called her attention back to the mess she had made of the surrounding foliage. The hyena barked happily, bouncing (literally) back to the scene in order to tramp amongst the carnage once more. "I am an Izulu! Defender of the Pride! Slayer of the great demon lord Ivy King! It is against his armies I fight in the name of the good and just!" She struck a pose that she thought was very regal and intimidating.

Giggling at herself, she skipped back towards the bored looking lion that had interfered in their conversation.. not that she cared. Without a single pause, the hyena laid down beside him and began to groom his mane. "After a valiant battle fought, it is good to take a bath." Somehow she managed to say that while looking and sounding completely serious. Certainly this had to be a joke of some sort, only no one was laughing. Rather than question Enok's appearance, she cast a scrupulous eye towards Oth once more. "... So what ARE you, strange thingie?"

As if to demonstrate what she meant, she looked back at the male she was grooming. "This is a lion.. at least, that's what they all tell me." She frowned lightly, "but they all like to call themselves something different. What do you call yourself?" That was directed at Enok, right before she opened her mouth to bathe his muzzle in well-meant slobber.

"AN Izulu?" there was a pause as the hyena turned to glance momentarily a his companion, a silent exchange seemed to take place then, when Oth tried to figure out if the lion thought this lithe creature as insane as he did, but since the lion merely shrugged, confusion written upon his features, the hyena mirrored the movement, "Well then, yer dah first Izulu I've evah seen, lass; charmed," the smirk was visible as he took as step back and finally sat himself down more comfortably, his hind leg raising to scratch behind his floppy right ear.

There was simply no way for Oth to ignore the uncomfortable 'urk' his companion produced as the young female lay and began to groom his mane however, "Well, well, 'nok, seems tah me yeh got a lil girlfriend 'ere," snickers followed the words as the canine continued to scratch behind his ear, movement that faltered as Izulu finally addressed him, "Huh?" his gaze slowly dropped on the couple to his side, a brow arching as he locked gazes with Enok, whom was still looking as if he'd rather the earth ate him up, "Me? I'm a hyena, luff; I'm 'fraid yeh've not looked yerself in dah water recently, 'ave you?" a pause as he leaned forward and took Enok's right ear into his maw, tugging at him.

"Ow! OW! OTH!!" the larger bulk of a lion allowed himself to be dragged around half of the jungle by the hyena, whom only stopped to let go once he reached a river, "What was that for?!" pouting, he raised one large brown paw and rubbed against his ear, frowning childishly at both canines.

"Call it an happy love-love nibble, 'nok," this said, he turned towards Izulu, whom he hoped had followed them, "Kay, luff, we're gonna play a game!"

"Oh goody, a game..." the lion had finaly lowered his paw, allowing his maw to drop into a sullen sulk. There was no need for him to ask if they couldn't just LEAVE this strange female alone and run away from this jungle; once Oth started something, he was well known for persisting. Enok knew his smaller companion had the scars to show it.

Winking at the lion once, almost as if silently amused, Oth continued, "A game, yup! See, this game is .... a game that requires.... skills," he leaned over the edge of the river, allowing his image to reflect on the water, "Kay then, the both o' yah have tah come here and look over the edge too," the lion moved his frame and did so, staring at the water with distinct boredom, "Kay now, 'Zulu, what do yah notice when you look 'ere? Don'tcha think it's strange that 'Nok here, being a lion is much larger than us? And that we both look surprisingly the same, markings aside?"

Finally tired of the game, Enok snorted, "That's because SHE is a HYENA, just like you, man... and /I/ am a lion," a pause as his stomach rumbled, "A hungry lion, might I add; can we eat yet?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 21, 2007 2:29 pm

Izulu had followed. She waggled her tail quite happily at the thought of a game, giving a merry little bark and bounded over to the river to look into it as directed. She turned her head, first to one side, then the other until Enok finally pulled away from the water. Izulu's ears rose, then and she gave a slight frown as she looked at both males. For the first time in their short meeting she looked truly serious, if somewhat confused. "I am not," There was a slightly haughty tone in her voice, but none of the hesitance one might expect when enountered with such hard evidence. No, in fact one might lable the look that was slowly breaking over her face as 'oh god they're crazy.' "The water lies, you see. It likes to do that to Izulu because it is in league with the Ivy."

Izulu nodded lightly, her voice slow and calm as if explaining something rather obvious to a slow child, "Izulu is a lion, like the rest of her family. Like her brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles." Of course, she had no real family but they wouldn't know that--her Pride was her family, and had been since she was small. In the end, the confused Hyena offered Oth a strangly sweet smile and leaned in, brushing her nose against his, "Its okay, I know what its like to be alone, but that doesn't mean you have to try and make others into what you are."

In truth, she'd lived so long among Lions she even smelt like one anymore.

Once again, the hyena aimed a sideways glance over at Enok, voicing things with just his gaze. Thing he couldn't seem to voice out loud, before returning his attention to Izulu, "Ohhh.... my bad then, lass, I must obviously be mistaken, that's okay; happens to dah best 'o us, yah know," something about the female's words had struck a cord in him, for he simply decided to accept this matter as she was telling it.

Whom was he to judge anyhow?

Enok on the other hand, tilted his head to one side, confusion clouding his features; he was a straightforward beast. He believed what he saw, and nothing more; down to earth and not a great believer of the supernatural, so it simply didn't fit into his mind that this lithe hyena would believe herself to be a lion. However, much like Oth, he too decided that he was in no position to judge her; if she was happy this, then he'd not be the one to burst her bubble. God forbid.

"Actually thu," the hyena smirked then, a player by nature, he could not bring himself to pass up such an opportunity; after all, it was her whom was pressing her nose against his, "I'm technically not alone, Lass; I gots myself 'Nok here, so I'm all right, yah see," still smirking, he leaned forward and licked the side of her muzzle before looking over his shoulder nonchalantly at the lion whom was merely rolling his eyes. It was quite amusing, or so Othieno had decided, for in his journeys he'd met many hyenas before, and never once had any of them seemed attractive, or interesting in any way. This lithe one that believed herself to be a lioness (and smelled like one - she probably belonged within a pride, somewhere, which was all the more interesting) was something entirely different.

In a way, she was very much like him, and for the first time, Othieno felt like he identified himself with another creature, "And quite the pretty lioness you are too, Lass, the waters lie."

Even Enok was smart enough to notice his companion was not flirting, for a change, but was saying something else, something with meaning, for a change.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 21, 2007 4:41 pm

The lick on her maw was surprising, but if she minded it didn't seem to be shown. Rather, the Hyena phazed back into giddily happily and opend her maw wide to return the lick, somewhat slopily, over his muzzle and half up his snout. That done, she giggled hyperly, her tail waggling behind her softly, "See, I told you! Bad bad bad water.. it always had it out for the Izulu, of course; but perhaps its not all bad? just tainted by the evil that is Ivy."

Her words didn't even seem to bother her and rather than act serious about the entire situation, she bounced a little in place. That was a curious quirk in itself that Izulu never could seem to stay still more than a few moments at a time, or remain serious either. Instead, she seemed to be constantly full of an energy that was almost.. desperate. A butterfly passed them and she grinned, bounding after it a few steps and leaping to catch it before she came back to earth empty handed.

Once more her shockingly purple eyes fell back across her two acquaintences, and she gave a loping grin. "Are you come to see the family? Not many come here, really, but people like visitors...." Sort of. She remembered the oath of secrecy about it a little too late, but... oh well. It wasn't as if she'd lead them to the pride itself, anyway. Changing the topic she darted closer again, weaving between them as she sniffed them and brushed against their pelts. Personal space obviously mattered little to her, and she liked the contact herself, "If you're hungered we can catch some of the food that runs around here," She nodded a little, "It can be fast but that's okay! Its a fun game." She smiled, then gasped in a delighted sort of way, "Or you can eat me! I always wondered what i taste like!"

"Ah, indeed it does, lass," there was simply no denying the fact the hyena seemed to have accepted her the way she was, and even as he sat down upon his haunches, tongue lolling to the side, he seemed amused. The fact she kept talking about herself in third person was interesting and as he turned his head to face Enok, Oth smirked.

See? It was worth staying here if only so we could meet such an interesting creature, don't you think?

The half scowl he received from the lion was proof enough that he didn't quite agree with his companion; this forced a chuckle from the hyena, which turned promptly into a cackle, his black tail thumping the ground. After all, what was life if not a series of events to lead to fun and love? That's what life was all about; there was no doubt about this in Othieno's mind, and though he didn't say it out loud, he knew the lion knew as much. Even if he didn't quite agree, "Careful there, lass, don't eat dah poor butterfly," a pause before he got up, smirking, padding around Izulu, "Didjah know? Butterflies are like the travelers of dah world; one of these days, ask one where it's been; or better yet - ask the wind where it's been. Bet'cha it'll tell yah plenty interesting stories yoh can tell yer family back in return," of course, leaned forward to sniff the female's pelt, taking in the scents, and growing more sure every moment he spent that she did in fact belong within a pride.

How.... peculiar. And highly interesting at that, "I promise yah the wind and butterflies ain't in league with Ivy; cross mah heart, hope tah die," and this said, he made a show of doing just that.

Rolling his eyes, Enok allowed himself to frown even more plainly. Deep down, he was slightly amused, but he dare not show it; there was something about the lithe female that told him it'd be a bad idea to encourage her and her insanity. Othieno seemed to be ignoring it, but Enok was smarter; or so he liked to think.

Fact was, Enok was the simpler of the two; he enjoyed those simple pleasures of life, and seemed to cling to old tradition. He was happy the way he was, and did not seem to think that females were for flirting with, unlike his 'brother' thought. Perhaps a gentleman at heart, or perhaps simply not the brightest star in the heavens; fact was, the lion liked things that were simple and straightforward. Izulu however, was far from, "No family; we're just rogues, on the move, really. We don't have more family than each other. My mother died some time back of old age; it's just me and Oth here," he motioned towards the hyena in question and couldn't help but smirk slightly as watched him.

It was interesting to note that he was not the only Hyena to wish he were a lion; even if this female thought herself to be one... and Oth knew himself not to be, it was still rather close, "Food would be marvellous, actually-" he paused as the lithe femme commented on her taste though, his words faltering, his gaze turning upon his companion as he gaped.

Oth on the other hand couldn't help himself from laughing; the sound burst through the trees, probably scaring a couple of birds away before he turned to grin at Izulu, "I think I can help yah with that thought, lass," and this said, he threw himself at her while the lion still gaped beside him. Taking care not to hurt her, he attempted his best to pounce and pin her to the floor, hoping the element of surprise and his larger frame would aid him. Were he to succeed he'd instantly latch himself upon one of her ears, smirking down at her as he lay shamelessly on top of her.

Slapping a paw over his eyes, the lion finally let out a sigh, "Oh for the love of..."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2007 2:40 pm

Izulu yelped as she was tackled, not having expected the pouncing but not seeming to mind it in the least. She gave up easily, giggling underneath him as he chewed on her ear. She wasn't the only one who did that! The female's maw broke in a loping grin and she couldn't contain herself from licking up the side of his face. She turned her head up a little more so she could attempt to look behind her at Enok. It was awkward, but she could just manage it; "You do not want to try an izululuuutoo?"

The thought of another creature eating her in the way she meant it should have been odd, and not something to joke around about, and yet here she was. Encouraging her insanity only seemed to make it more normal in those about her, in a weird sort of way, a fact that Izulu hadn't missed--though she would have called herself 'normal' and said that others were actually giving into sanity. "It is sad to have little family, yep yep." She nodded, "That's why I have a BIIIIIIIIIG one. but at least you have two."

"Uhm...." the lion's gaze turned even more flat than before, if at all possible, his lip arching in what seemed like a grimace, "No, I don't think so," he licked his own maw and looked away, slightly embarrassed for no reason whatsoever, even though deep down he was amused, "Thank you," he added as an after-though, a brow arching as he dared turned back to regard them.

Despite his attitude, the lion was indeed glad they stopped this way, and he was quite sure they'd come to stop by this land further more time in their travels. Knowing Oth, he'd make some sort of excuse to visit this place again, for after all, it wasn't always that either of them found interesting creatures worth mingling with. Most of the creatures they'd found in their travels had been quite morose, and rather antisocial, if not threatening.

Allowing himself to remain shamelessly on top of the younger female, Othieno arched a brow at his companion, "Oh, come now, 'Nok, you know you want some too," he smirked then, waggling his brows, to which his friend answered by rolling his eyes. The hyena interpreted this as 'dude, enough is enough', and thus, patting the femme's head with a paw, he removed his frame from hers, "Quite tasty, lass," winking, he sat down, using his paw to rearrange his bangs into a better looking tuff of hair. Tell truth, though he knew time would come for them to leave, right now he didn't quite feel like it, thus when the lion stood up and turned around wordlessly, he frown, "And just where do yah think yer goin' to?"

"No where," came the vague answer as the large brown head turned around on them, however, for the first time in a long while, the feline allowed himself to smirk, "Not without you anyhow; but really, we should stop bothering the young lady," noting the frown deepening upon the hyena's maw he let out a sigh, "Oth, her family will probably not appreciate us making her lose her time; maybe we should go ... specially if there's a pride around here..." his head lifted into the air, his eyes narrowing as he sniffed the air, "We don't want to bug them, after all," even as the hyena opened his muzzle to protest, the lion continued, "Specially if we wanna be able to come back and visit this lady again; getting kicked out of a land is not the best way to be allowed back in."

And those words made sense enough for Othieno to stand up again, his tail wagging as he joined the Lion's side, "Well lass, it's been a pleasure, but 'Nok here is right," a pause as he pondered something, then ripped off a flower from one of the trees, using his mouth. Offering it to her in between his teeth, the male smirked, allowing her the chance to take it, "Bet'cha we'll be back before this one flower finishes wilting..." and this said, he bounded over to the larger lion, both padding through the foliage.

Once out of sight, the lion turned to his friend, arching a brow, "What makes you think she'll keep that flower long enough to know when it wilts?"

"She won't, she'll just know."

Confusion swept upon the lion's features before he rolled his broad shoulders and shrugged it off. No further words were exchanged as both headed to find food and pad out of the lands; neither knew where to go next, but they didn't seem to care. At least ... they did indeed have each other.
