Water lapping at the shore was a comforting and yet frightening sound. If you could see it, it wasn't so bad. Ticdat was once able to see it, but no more. She always stayed within a few feet of the water, stone-gray ears listening. Now an adolescent, she dared not go near it. The water frightened her. She could never know if she was going to drown or not, for she could not see it or where anything was. All she had left were scent, touch, and sounds, and those couldn't always prove effective. How had her brother lived like this for his whole life? She could never figure it out, really. Laying down, she trembled, ears twitching at the slightest sounds.

Silent paws moved across the grasses, heading for the watering hole. Gray-lined ears swiveling here and there, the bone-marked hyena looked about, making sure she had no company. As the sunlight struck her pelt, Schatz felt... Exposed. In the Graveyard, she felt safe, in a sense. It was the bones that surrounded her there, as well as the mighty rocks. But to leave the Graveyard was a needed thing - Water was important, as well as small game. Stopping at the shore, she glared at her reflection. Only one eye could fully look back at her - A lion had blinded the other. She was bitter about it, that was certain, and she splashed the water before drinking.

Large ears twitching, the wild dog looked up. Someone was there... Someone was at the watering hole. Shrinking down, she attempted not to be seen, heard, smelled, anything. Poor health from her blindness was evident - Being unable to see, she was unable to find food so easily as her brother and sister that DID see. Her body was frail, though not so frail as to die easily. Care from family had thankfully saved her from starving. If she had been alone... She likely wouldn't have made it anywhere in life. And now, she feared possibly dying at the paws or horns of another animal. So she hid as best she could.

Stoumach full of water, Schatz began to head back to the Graveyard. But a scent invaded her nose, causing her to turn. Someone was there...? Listening, she heard the rustle of grass and leaves. And a big, sadistic grin spread across the hyena's face. Creeping along silently, she scanned the savannah until her eye fell upon the wild dog. A poor attempt at hiding... She soon spied why it was so poor - The animal was blind. Four deep scars cut across each eye, having effectively done the injuring job. A loud, delighted cackle escaped the hyena.

At the sound of the loud cackling so close, Ticdat yelped and scurried around what she hoped was a tree. Instead, she ran INTO the tree. Curses for being blind! Sitting down, she let out a loud whine. "Please don't eat me!" Shrinking down, the wild dog scanned the area with her ears and nose. Oh, why her? Why her?

Pacing around the tree and watching the comical display, the hyena let another cackle out. "Oh, aren't YOU something! You can't see the end of your nose, can you?" She licked at her lips, drooling just a bit. Each drop of saliva hit the ground, letting out a muffled 'plip' as it struck the dust. Schatz was, by no means, picky at her food. She'd learned this from Angaza who wasn't picky himself. Food was food, and this... This just sat there and didn't fight. It delighted her. "You'll find your end soon, don't worry..."

Whimpering and whining, the dog shrank back more. She could hear the drool pattering on the ground, and it frightened her to no end. She could practically smell the hunger emenating from the hyena, as well as the general stink that came with them. Finding herself pinned against a rock(Quite literally), she tried to hear a way out. She found none - The terrain on either side was bushes, and she knew not what kind. In desperation, she let out a howl of fear, calling to anyone that might hear her. She needed help, she needed it soon!

And someone heard.
Not too far away, a brown pile of fur had suddenly grown two ears, that perked, and thn a head lifted fro mthe curled up bundle at the base of a tree. It'd had been resting from a failed attempt to catch a gazelle, but it wasn't deaf either. The blobgained a life now, pulling up on to four legs as the howl was ending, recognizing it somewhat. The older brother of the troubled wild dog had heard her.
He knew his 'younger' sister had been blinded, and whenever he could, he'd try and help out. Maybe this was an occasion, but something was.. different. It sounded desperate, and scared. Maybe she'd falled into the water, or maybe...
And so Kutu ran the small distance from his treeto the watering hole, letting out a sort-of howl, likely odd sounding because he had to keep his mind on the run, to let his sister know he was comming.
But it wasn't Ticdat that the wild dog saw first, it was something black and white. And awkward, and scary. He almost stopped, but it was looking at something, someone, clear view blocked by a rcok and some of the scrawny bshes, but a flutterof grey-dustlike movement let him know; that was his sister. And she needed help.
He was guessing now, this was probably one of the monsters in the graveyard, the ones Kello lived with. But Kello liked them, and now, he could tell that he didn't. At lest not this one. And for the first time he let out a loud, rumbling growl come from his throat, stopping a few meters away from the two, head low instinctively, teeth bared. He was scared, but he couldn't be, Kutu had to help his sister, she couldn't do it herself.

Ready to make the kill, Schatz was stopped by the ear-splitting howl. A growl escaped the hyena as she advanced again, but another howl hit her ears. Another dog? She looked over, single eye narrowing dangerously. So she'd called for help... But where there was one wild dog... There were likely others. Wild dogs were, after all, known for massive packs. Snorting, the hyena turned towards the male. "So, someone's gonna put up a fight, eh?" She started forward, but something caught her eye. Snarling, she looked between wild dogs.
Kutu hadn't been the only one to hear Ticdat's howl. Always alert to any of his four children being in trouble, Raka had promptly stopped his hunting to come to the aide of his daughter. He knew each howl of each pack member, and he knew especially those of his children. Jumping over a rock, the sandstone colored dog landed near his son, a deep and menacing snarl coming from his throat. "Get out of our lands, hyena!"

Kutu was slightly taken aback by the hyena's gaze and then charge, but stood his ground , bracing himself for an attack, then she stopped. His fur prickled when hesensed another beside him, ad was releived to scent his father. He looked up at Raka tahnkfully, knowing he alone would probably get a whooping from a hyena, but with his father, he knew he could.
But Schatz was still closer to his sister than they were, and he circled towards her, trying to get close enough to guide her out of the mess she'd got herself into, and still trying to keep away from the hyenas jaws, eyes never leaving the black creature, but an ear remained towards hssisters, paws trying to find a better way towards her without getting too close. If he were braver, he'd probably just charge over, or say something, but he wanted to evoid this, but he knew he couldn't.

Ears perked only slightly. Her brother and father were there! Ticdat whimpered, pressing into one of the bushes. She was surprised to find a gap in the bush, which she took prompt advantage of, finding a good place to hide.
Letting out a menacing cackle, the hyena adavanced towards the males. "You think I'm gonna go just like that? You got another thing comin'!" With a snarl, she launched forward, aiming to kill. Food was food, after all!

Green eyes flickered away for a moment in the direction of his sisters whimper, wich he shouldn't have. When he looked back, a blakc blotch was hurtling at him, and he yelped in suprise as the air was knocked out of his lungs, and the young male was on his side, the hyena pinning him by the shoulders. He couldn't get up in this position.
Kutu was dumbfounded, but aninstinct told hmto turn at bite at whatever he could reach. Now, he could nible his sohulder, maybehe could bite her paw? The brown male twisted and kicked his hind legs at her own, as if to unbalance her, then turned his neck the best he could to n** at her pinning paws.

Grinning maniacally over the wild dog, Schatz leaned in to make the kill. But upon being nipped, she reeled letting out a snarl of pain. Bite HER, was he? In a swift move, she grabbed onto one of his ears, intending to rip it off. If he was nipping, he was maiming!
Momentarily distracted by making sure Ticdat was alright, Raka turned back and launched at the hyena. She was injuring his son, and he was NOT standing for it! Claws digging in as best the could, he clawed and bit at her, trying to get the mass of black and white off Kutu.

Kutu yelped as something squeezed onto his ear, and pulled, but he clenched his teeth, perhaps just making the bite more effective. But he felt choked now, and let go in the need to just cry out in pain, but then it was released, and he blinked, turning to lookupwards as his father attacked the hyena. A wave of releaf struck him, though hefelt a smallwarm liquid flowing down his ear. There wasn't so much blood in there, so it was little, but he could still feel it, and he hated it.
If he could look up at his ear, he'd probably notice a small nick at the edge, not very noticeable, wich would probably end up hidden by fur, but where blood was tricklingfrom. In some other spots his ear got scrached, but lightly; his father had saved him before anything strong.
Perhaps now he could squeeze away. The male scrabbled his paws against the ground as well as he could, forcing himself foreward to try and get away.

Snarling and spinning, the hyena tried to detach the wild dog from her back. Snapping her teeth, she grabbed him by a haunch and yanked, sending him flying. Panting and glaring, she gave a snort. "This is too much work." She looked at the hiding blind wild dog, a smirk coming to her maw. She would have to tell Mafa about that one... Pups would be so easy to get from. New slaves. Turning, she hurried off, loping back to the Graeyard.
Letting out a yelp, Raka went tumbling. The pain in his leg where he'd been bitten was nothing compared to the pain from tumbling. Carefully rising on shaking legs, he stumbled, looking for his son and daughter. But they were safe, and that pleased him. Checking himself over, he found one ankle twisted from being yanked, as well as his tail painfully broken from landing on it. In all... It could have been worse. He decided to count his blessings about then.
